So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old? I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them? I wonder how long people would put up with this. As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series. |

AiCon said: I think you already saw some posts about fans traveling to Oorai to check out locations used in the anime and there are shops that display GnP posters on their windows. "Anime Pilgrimage" by anime fans is getting a lot of attention by people living in the regions. Lucky Star boosted a lot the number of visitors who went to the shrine shown in its OP. Hanasaku Iroha boosted a lot the number of visitors who went to the onsen that the anime is based on. K-On boosted many times the number of visitors to the heritage school building that the anime is based on. Local business association and even local governments see this as a way to boost tourism and economy by attracting such people to come and visit the place. Apparently since GnP link was up on Ibaraki Government website, the visit count of the website jumped, so all is to good publicity. Can someone explain to me why a government website would even bother to endorse anime programs? That kind of stuff doesn't happen where I live so this is kind of odd to me. By the way, it is announced in the official twitter that Ep. 5.5 WILL be included in vol.3 of the BD, on top of the OVA that is planned for each BD volume. Spoiler The official GaruPan twitter account is: https://twitter.com/garupan It is all in Japanese. Isn't this a spoiler? It seems strange that the GaruPan people would be telling us things that I would expect to be revealed in future episodes. I don't want to translate this into English since we have a rule not to give out spoilers. Most of their tweets are telling us general background information. For example, why was Yukari's dad sitting in the barber shop chair? Business was bad. Other posters on this site have been very kind to translate them and post them here. Thanks to them! |

okanagan said: You can always put spoilers here by using the Spoiler tag (check here to see how to use it http://myanimelist.net/info.php?go=bbcode ). But it is not a spoiler because there are enough hints from earlier episodes, particularly in the Panzer Cafe in ep.5, that gives us the information, which is that Miho was the deputy commander of the school team of Kuromorimine a year ago and the commander was her elder sister Maho. The extra information is that Maho is still the commander of the team now, but we can easily guess that's the case anyway. Isn't this a spoiler? ^ You are correct. Miho is indeed addressed as 副隊長 (Deputy Commander, literally: 副 vice 隊 team 長 leader) in the panzer-themed cafe when Maho walks by. This is at 03:13 in Episode 5. Of course, it is a sarcastic comment since Miho left the Kuromorimine school and thus is no longer the 副隊長. So I agree this is a sufficient (although indirect) hint to us that Miho held that position on the panzer team at her old school. Finally, at 03:37, as the two of them are walking away, the other girl addresses Maho as 隊長 (Commander). So this tells us that Maho is presently the Kuromorimine School Panzer Team Leader. The only missing piece of the puzzle is that we don't know for sure that it was Maho who was the commander last year. However, you can see Maho being interviewed on TV at 10:20 in Episode 2. This is when the girls were in the panzer store. The announcer said that Maho was the MVP (Most Valuable Player) during the Panzerfahren finals. Even so, that does not logically imply that she was the 隊長. |

This might be an old photo of her wearing a uniform: http://www.hkt48.jp/profile/fuchigami_mai.html If you still aren't satisfied, just Google "渕上舞" to see more. An amazing fact: Mai's hometown (Fukuoka Prefecture) is extremely close to Miho's hometown (Kumamoto City in Kumamoto Prefecture). People in that part of Japan speak with an accent that is quite different from that in Tokyo or Osaka. So Mai is the perfect voice actress for Miho. ^ Thank you AiCon for your response. Everybody, please do your own Google Image search to find the best photos of each of them. I chose these photos mostly on the basis of pixel size in order to fit onto the web page. I also showed the Japanese names to make it easy for everybody to search on Google. However, I think that AiCon's choice of the three cutest (可愛い / かわいい / kawaii) girls might be correct. It is remarkable how much the actresses visually resemble the characters. I really like Hana. She is "cool" (格好いい / かっこいい / kakkoii) as opposed to "cute". Note that she is the tallest at 163 cm (5 foot 4). Normally tall is "cool" as opposed to "cute". You could also say that Hana is "elegant" or "refined". More specifically, Hana is a kind of woman which Japanese call Yamato Nadeshiko I think that her voice actress does a remarkably good job of capturing this. 大和 means "Japan" and 撫子 is a certain kind of flower. Yukari might not be cute and she might not be cool. However, she can pick up a 75 mm shell and lock it into the gun breech at lightning speed. A lot of men might find that a huge turn-on. |

If you are coming to the Girls & Panzer appearance tomorrow at the Ankou Festival, please travel safely. Note that this is a town festival and that many of the local people may not be familiar with the anime. Please come with moderation and an open mind and enjoy the event. At the Ankou festival in Ooarai (Sunday, November 18th) they are selling special "Girls und Panzer" sake. It is a limited edition of just 1380 bottles. It costs 1500 Yen per bottle. Apparently you can only buy it at the festival. They are selling quite a lot of other limited edition stuff there: http://girls-und-panzer.at.webry.info/201211/article_12.html Looking through the items, I notice that the Student Council President (Anzu) is being featured a lot, in addition to the five Ankou team girls. So I am guessing that the GaruPan people are picking up that Anzu is a very popular character among GaruPan fans. I didn't like her at first, but now I am coming to admire her more and more. That helicopter belongs to the Kuromorimine Girl's Academy That is the school that Miho attended last year. Miho was the Vice-Commander of their panzer team. Miho's older sister (Maho) currently attends that school and is the Commander of their panzer team. The Kuromorimine Girl's Academy was the national champion in Panzerfahren for nine years in a row. But last year they came in second for some reason. I think that Erika is the pilot. We first met her in the panzer-themed cafe in Episode 5. In the window behind the pilot you can see Mako is sitting there. |

It is keeping within their German WWII motif. Probably because it's rare and cool looking. After all this is a Tank Otaku's dream animation (isn't it perfect that Yukari liked the 7tp, only a true tank otaku would have even known about it's existence). |

It is very early in the morning in Japan right now, and here are the first official tweets today from the GaruPan people: 「ガールズ&パンツァー」公式アカウント @garupan おはようございます。 Good morning. Today, finally, is the Ankou Festival in Ooarai. The cast and staff, who stayed here overnight last night, have already started working. Everybody enjoy the event ! The weather here is sunny and clear. Calm winds. Come out to Ooarai for a look ! - - - - - - - Here is a photo posted online yesterday by the Ooarai Tourist Association. My guess is that it was taken inside the top of the 60-meter-tall Marine Tower They showed the Marine Tower during the urban battle when they were fighting against Gloriana at 09:20 in Episode 4. The Marine Tower is right next to the place where the two giants ships were moored. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/A74ZD1YCYAA3D05.jpg:large |

okanagan said: So did they do that funny fish dance? I'd lmao if they did and it would have probably garnered the show more attention if that happened. I really wish that I could have been there.
