Contents managing company Overlap has announced the reboot of IS: Infinite Stratos project. A newly written short novel, a new drama CD and new character goods will be released at Comiket 83.

The release of IS original novel has been suspended since April 2011 due to a dispute within the publisher Media Factory. Three of the executives resigned from the publisher and established Overlap this year.

Yumizuru is an all round terrible writer who has been using "I'm ill" as an excuse to not put out any new work for well over a year, and now he has gone and pissed off his publishers as well.

I wish I could hate Infinite Stratos so I wouldn't have to put up with shit like this, but I like the characters to much.

Sounds awesome, would be nice if it also gets animated.

Infinite Stratos sales per volume (33812/vol). So it should have no problem in getting a 2nd season based on sales. Depends if there's enough material yet to be animated from the light novel and if they are actually willing to make a new season...

On topic, good to see IS back on track. Was wondering why there hasn't been a new light novel volume for a while...

So what does the "reboot" mean? A new season or remake?

On the other hand, I wonder if IS: Infinite Stratos remains in MF Bunko, whether it's a reboot or not?

ssssssssh~

But it does seems unclear. The characters were amazing, even though the season distributed a lot for Charlotte. So I really hope for more IS\ o /

I agree, the IS doujins are better than the show itself

Don't see why they would need to reboot it when the anime was pretty much close to what the LN depicted(both just as bad). I liked the concept of IS, just didn't like the development of the characters in the series. If anything they should just Rewrite, not Reboot the series.

Why fix it if it ain't broke? It sold super-well, so the incentive should be strong for both the publisher and the author to reconcile and make money together again. Problem is all the behavior by the author after the dispute shows that the author is quite an eccentric character, always mumbling on Twitter over various things which sometimes sounds like nonsense. It is just possible that the dispute was caused by the publisher getting fed up with his antics. However, his later LN seems to have got a really bad rap by critics and readers alike. Perhaps that helps to get the author to get back the sense that Infinite Stratos is too much a gold-laying duck to be left for dead.

As for your assertion that "the anime was pretty much close to what the LN depicted(both just as bad)" I cannot agree. If anything the anime changes quite a bit of things in the LN, particularly near the ending; and in general it actually improves upon the LN. This anime is often quoted when someone asked in a forum which anime is better than its source material. Besides, the technical achievement like the mecha battles is done better than most would have expected for a harem anime. So that is another plus for the anime.

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Fuck that author. Obviously he doesn't give two shits about his own works (his behavior should be proof enough). What a shame.

More IS is good news but a reboot? So what its basically just going to be the same events with few twists here and there...prefer a season 2 instead.

I can't wait for more info on this. I'm hoping it's just not a redo of season 1 but actually something new. Want something new from the LN too but who knows with the author :S

I thought there would be season 2 for this. If this is a new season, it's okay for me although I would prefer a continuation from the 1st season. After all, I need more IS!

If it's a reboot, then it should follow the light novel...the first IS had some missing characters...but if its a second season, then i hope that those characters in the light novel that didn't show up in the first IS, will get their time to show up...

Re-make of the first 7 novels with a new art style, and volume 8 is out on April 25th.

Since Infinite Stratos is now owned by Overlap, I guess Kadokawa won't get their mittens on that series!

This show needs to keep the concept but lose the harem.
I could never forgive the fact that a now female dominated society would still devolve into a typical harem

Well, in a way, it's not as if Ichika is the big strong man with all the women to protect. It's quite the opposite, really.

In any case, you can't lose the harem because the IS girls are amongst the best characters harems have to offer.

for those who are still unsure. The reboot is starting at volume 8 of the novels. Before the dispute the novels ended at volume 7 which is around where the anime ends, so there is a chance of a second season once the novels start coming out, giving them more material. Also I think they might be doing a re-run of the first season but with updated character designs and so forth.

As long as it diverges from the typical 1-2 episode good setup, 7-8 episodes of horrible fillers and 1-2 episodes of ending action, I'm all for the reboot.

The thing is the only other information I can see is vol.8 of the LN has a DVD, so I wonder whether it just means that. Also not sure why you are so sure "it is a remake".
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

The words "TV anime" says it is not about the LNDVD at all. Maybe remake is not the perfect word but a new production when translated in english? Maybe like they'll start from vol.1 again and continue up until they catch up on the new ones.

OK, it is a TV anime. Guess I will start a new thread for it then. Yeah, possibly a new production with a new studio, but it will still be called a 2nd season. And we are not sure if it is a remake or not.
