I can't help but think this is suicide for the film. You can't recoup that kinda budget if its only playing in adult theaters.

So finally people can get to know one of the reasons why they named the title "Berserk", if they haven't yet.

So you think Berserk is a show for pure little boys and girls?

No, but limiting your audience to an adult movie theater greatly restricts the amount of money you can make from theater sales. Many people who are 18+ would still not see it due to the fact it can be embarrassing to go to an adult movie theater even if you're not going to see a porno. Because of stuff like this, nearly all movie studios try to get their movies under that 18+ rating because its too much potential revenue loss.

Then of course theres the fact you won't be able to sell the BD in normal movie stores either, which also greatly reduces the money made. Its a messy situation all around that could have easily been remedied with some censoring. I guess the creator would rather make a lot less money.. hell, even lose money just to have an authentic manga experience.

Heh. High five for the directors of this movie. If they know their gonna suffer a huge loss by adding the sex scenes to the Eclipse arc and their doing it anyway then props to them. The entire arc wouldn't be the same without the rape, err...well Berserk wouldn't be the same without rape LOL.

@RyanSaotome I wouldn't be ashamed to go into an adult theater, i read porn during my free time in Lectures. Although some of the girls sitting next me have a problem. Ahh who cares i just wanna see Cascka naked while getting violated by monsters.

Adult theatre? The fuck are you talking about? You know they show R rated movies in regular movie theatres right? lol

And Berserk isn't for kids anyway.

If its anything like the NC-17 rating like the OP said, most legit theaters will refuse to air it. R rating is as high as chain theaters go in America AFAIK.

I think there would be less impact on home video sales. They're not very good to begin with (only about 11k total after 4 weeks for the first movie), so I think it's reaching a pretty niche audience anyway. As long as it's carried on Amazon and in anime specialty shop (and why wouldn't it be?) I don't think adult status will affect it much. Most anyone buying Berserk (or anime BDs in general) is 18 or older.

I don't think there will be much impact on the home sales that are reported... but what about the kinda sales that happen down the line, when people are checking out movies to buy at a store to watch, not just the people who preorder? Those kinds of sales down the line is what I'm thinking about will be affected... and with Berserk, its more mainstream than a lot of the late night anime we keep track of so I don't think all of its sales will be first week or anything.

Even with the current season people still haven't seen enough rape it seems.

Well, the scenes they're probably referring to wouldn't work without those horrors, so I guess I'm glad they had the balls to go for R18+.
I probably regret this post by now.

Having just seen the second movie...was that not rated R? It has sex and boobs flying everywhere and rape and underage prostitution and bare ass and nipple sucking and oral sex and pubic hair and basically everything.

The only thing they didn't show was a penis. So I guess this movie has penis? Well, I'm sure that's exactly what everyone in this forum is so excited about

The second movie was rated PG-12.
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

I love how everyone's getting so uppity about 'Why are people cheering on rape!' and everything.

I don't see it that way. I think you'll find that the presence of those scenes is making people happy because it hints towards the events being accurate towards the original manga.

Either that or MAL is just messed up. Either is plausible.

Because it was in the manga(relevant to the plot too, the consequences of it I mean, believe it or not) and people want the movies to be faithful to it, at least that's what I'm assuming here.
But who knows, there might be some sickos out there who actually enjoy/fap to that kind of shit.Pretty fucked up.

Having said that, I hope they make it short since reading it in the manga was already painful as is.Just enough to get the point across would be ok.

Even if the third movie drops a lot again, it'll be hard to know if that's because of adult film restrictions, or simply because people continued to lose interest.

it is easy, Studio 4° make bad work with the movies.( I love the manga so munch) It is the answer why there are fewer people in the theaters for the second movie.

They probably decided to make the third movie more faithful to the manga. There will probably be no censorship

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that isn't what Miura or the director of the movie intended.
Though I'll say that I'm glad about this because I think the scene will have the impact that was intended. The team doing the movies should be commended for that, at least.

LOL PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT RAPE

Like you don't see it in the hentai you read and watch. Don't act like goody-two-shoes. You're not as innocent as you're making yourself out to be.

First off, it's a cartoon.
Second, it's fictional.
Third, it's not like you haven't seen it before in media.

If you're too immature to hear the word "rape" without getting butthurt (no pun intended), you shouldn't even be watching the movie, reading the manga or having anything to do with the series in general... at all.
It's rated for adults for a reason: because either they're fucked up enough to enjoy dat kinda thing or they're mature enough to know it's fictional.

I wouldn't watch it just for that CG work they got... At least it's like, a level up from the second Dead Space movie (not anime though), but that's not saying much.
Rape scenes are one thing, but I don't want my eyes raped as well :<

I didn't know it was possible to be this naive. Rape is uncomfortable to watch regardless of the fact that it's fictional (and a cartoon). If actually watching rape unfold doesn't make you uncomfortable, you're not mature. You're mentally disturbed.

That's good for you, because that is exactly what the scene in question wants out of the viewer. Make them uncomfortable. I guess you'll have to see it to understand, unless you've read the manga or seen the first anime adaptation. Unless, of course, this revelation has completely scared you off. Which is a shame, because Berserk is one hell of an experience (or at least the anime series was).
