The API is not back, but the app uses workarounds to provide as much functionality as possible. Still a lot of things are unavailable, and everything is unreliable.

The tl;dr is that they forgot to prepare for GDPR and killed the API because that was easier than trying to fix it.

I’ve been using iMAL for a couple years now, and recently I’ve been experiencing a minor inconvenience.

How come some shows have airing info like:

https://i.imgur.com/sCQ8sa3.jpg
But others just say ‘airing’ ( https://i.imgur.com/CKRnbHA.jpg )?

The last picture is just Airing because you're either up to date. Or the system doesnt know how many episodes are in that series? Nobody knows how many episodes of 1 piece are left

But for One Punch Man, when caught up (2nd OPM pic), it gives me a countdown till the next episode airs (every Tuesday), and when I'm behind (1st OPM pic), it tells me x number have aired since the last one I watched.

But then for Fairy Tail and One Piece, I get none of that.
1) The pic with 1 piece was taken when I had watched 880 eps when 881 have aired, so it should be giving me the message of "1 ep. aired", but it doesn't.
2) As for Fairy Tail, I was caught up when the pic was taken, so it should be giving a countdown till the next episode (a countdown till Saturday)

- let me edit tags on anime
- let me edit comments on anime
- automatically set the "date finished" data when i complete all episodes

Hey, great work with the app man, I'm sure you're aware of these problems but I just wanted to let you know somehow just in case.

The list part works fine right now. However, viewing info on a show or searching MAL from the app does not currently work - it just loads indefinitely, eventually saying Network Error -The request timed out.

I really enjoy your filtering mechanism for the VA's to shows on my list so I'm looking forward to a fix, though I suspect it's that they messed up the API somehow and that there's nothing you can do about it.

Here same, search not working anymore and noticed that last updates I made are not being reflected on my MAL account, so as for now we can say...
Lets wait and see what happens with everything surrounding the soon-to-come API and... Step 2: Be really patient. A lot.

Sad to have this app not working at the moment, and wish the best to its developer to get things back working if MAL gives better support for any app, no matter its iOS or Android.

Wish there was an alternative... I wish.

Im sadly having the same issue that the search bar is not working, means i can only search the anime’s already on the list.

Hope that helps with fixing it.

Hey Dev, the new API entered open beta. Maybe you can try updating iMAL? It’s the best MAL app I’ve ever used, and I‘d like to keep using this in the future instead of something different ;)

Hello everyone,

After more than a year of keeping the app on life support waiting for MAL to update their API, and then trying to find the motivation and time to update the app once they did, I have decided to pull the plug and officially discontinue iMAL.

Thanks for all your support over the years, it's been a wonderful journey.
I know it's a bittersweet ending for everyone, but it is now time to move on.

Bummer. I got really excited to see that the API finally came out and just checked if iMAL would be getting an update. Totally makes sense, though. MAL really shafted us for the past few years. Now there's currently no MAL apps on the app store that I could find. Thanks for the years of support, IATGOF. o7

EDIT: xMAL seems is a really old one, so will keep using iMAL while it works somehow.

As of yesterday iMAL cannot login. Download xMAL but the same there. MAL rejects password as incorrect. Only official app remains.
