indeed it was.

well i liked watching this one. i haven't seen the TV version but i think i have some good background info when i do watch it.

the rate at which events unfolded was rather quick. i guess the show assumes you've seen the TV version. maybe they could have extended it to 1:20 or something.

It was ok. If only it was more emotional, then I would have cried.

Well this was bad.

Can't care for characterless carbdoard cutouts crying clichés. Cared more for previous alliteration, really.

This all happened waaaay to fast. It gave me very little time to grow feelings for any of the characters. The ending was indeed sad but the rest of the movie was lacking the detail and emotion that they assumed the viewer would have when watching this. The battles where short and very little was even explained about why they needed to sacrifice their lives for the island. They destroyed so many of those things yet in the end there's still many more heading to the island...it made the whole plan seem like a waste.

Ok so why the fuck did they have to die?

I was trying to run away from sad animes and here I was, watching this thinking there was no way it was going to be sad -_-

Now if the TV series has a sad ending like this I will be skipping it -_-

that was good but it could have been amazing if it were a 1 cour tv series or even just the length of a movie, it simply moved too fast for its own good and while the final scenes still held a lot of impact that could have been an unforgettable moment had it gotten more build-up.

Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me

School part had the rare bit of comedy, otherwise... as expected it was very heavy drama & ending was too sad. Can't really handle animals dying...
Starts with 3 ill characters, quite odd for a short, and the sudden uber melodramatic cello & flower symbolism was too much for the father scene... but overall rush pacing's understandable given 55min.
Girl went reverse tsun, then dere later. Good development. All that sacrifice for 6 months of peace, but backstory suggests many graduates died before to sustain the island so far. And this last one was to ensure Core (that girl in water?) gets developed.
First try at Fafner. It's an excellent melo/drama. Xebec/IG in 05 pretty good 2D/CG mechs, very short battles but well made. Classic war orchestra. Sasuga angela, both beautiful songs. Generally I avoid "sad" shows, so not sure of watching S1 yet.

I like Yumi so much until she cut her hair.

Death Fest at the end. The dog died at the end was touching.

Everyone in this episode discussion seems so incredibly ignorant. This is absolutely not intended to be watched before Dead Aggressor. This series is convoluted from the beginning (and I love being confused and straining my brain out to understand) so don't go labeling plot points as flaws or anything. There is a reason why.
@DeathfireD it wasn't really that fast if you watched Dead Aggressor first as intended. Fafner is a continuum of events from the get-go, this was just a instance from the past relative to s1.
@Kaiserpingvin I don't know what complex character development and overarching narrative you're expected from a 50 min OVA that is a chronological prequel and is intended to be watched after Dead Aggressor, but the characters weren't "cardboard cutouts". I'm not telling you should have cried or anything. I did not too, but it showed the sacrifice to further protect the culture of peace the people on Tatsumiya Island are trying to preserve. In a world like that of Fafner there is nothing more beautiful. As I said this should be watched after.

Well shit... this one kind of broke me. I knew they were all fucked from the start but it was still painful to watch. In a way, it was beautiful. They gave their lives for "only" 6 months of peace, but without those 6 months everyone on the island would have died, period. They all went out as heroes. And ust when you were sad enough already, the dog died. And then to twist the knife, you remember episode 1 and know what happens to Karin.

Oh, and this prequel MUST NOT in any way be watched before the TV series. It spoils the series like crazy. Why do you think it was released after. DO NOT WATCH THIS BEFORE THE SERIES. Now only will it spoil the series, but you won't even understand much, as the people above has shown. This was a 10/10.

Now this is what I'd call a wonderful animation.
I love this melancholic feeling. If only the previous season (or after this prequel) have this kind of animation... ಥ╭╮ಥ

It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.
