THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------

LOL, Akiho is such a silly girl this episode with the way she ate, riding that bike, and accidentally letting her panties shown. Building robots is serious business. Uh, it also looks like she has some health problems so I hope they resolve that soon.

That little yellow robot looks kinda cute.

Trying to get the robot for the competition. But seriously, the girl is too optimistic that the guy is willing to help her out. lol @ the meat bun.

OP and ED show that the anime is alot lighter than Psycho-Pass, which airs before this.

Seems like Akiho has some weird condition where time speeds up for her, looks like some serious incident when she was younger. Also the caring side of Kaito is shown, and a promise with Akiho's elder sister?

The meat bun scene was funny, quite like the humour in this show, aswell as Kaito's obsession over playing 'KILL-BALLAD' reminds me of characters from other anime like Keima Katsuragi. Overall the episode was pretty good I guess, I give it a 4/5.

Wasn't it the Kill Ballad creator who rejected their call? Haha.

Great episode. Productions values are still very high, as shown by the aurora and the movement of the characters. We learn a bit more about the relationship between Akiho and Kaito while slowly advancing the plot.

Easy 5/5.

Another decent episode, still a little slow but well i feel things will get better soon.

Akiho still winning my hearth really she is crazy and really cute, loved how she beg for a discount and that face while watching the new parts.

To cute!!
Still we now know about her having spams that make time go faster...it most suck!!

Kaito eating the bun was hilarious!!

Really i wonder how a sweet bun will taste =.=

More about Aki sister....she hang up on her well probably will know more about her later on specially her relation to Kaito promise with her.

Also meet Juuna, she its kinda cute, loved her embarrassed face!

Beyond that they finish the robot and Kaito will be the Operator so things will get fun next episode.

BTW got some Robot action!!

This was actually pretty good episode.
Somehow reminded me of Penguindrum, not just the seiyu I mean.
So "daughter of the wind," just wondering does that mean something deeper. I guess needs to wait and see.

Awesome episode, i like how they showed that Kai actually cares and there may actually be reason he acts so indifferent all the time. Her condition is a interesting touch also, so the one who rejected the call at the end was the sister? Because if anyone was calling the creator of Kill-Ballad wouldn't it be Kai since the message was sent to him.

Read my mind. Such a cute couple.

This episode was more serious than the last one. I actually looked up Elephant Mouse Syndrome, it doesn't exist (felt silly for looking it up later). But that's a scary disorder. I mean, experiencing five minutes within a second must be so dizzying I wonder how her head can take it.

Kai was so sweet, the way that he shows that he actually cares. :'D I liked this episode more than the last one.

Misa rejected Aki's call. >:< Not fair. Poor Aki. How can Misa do that so easily?

This is keeps getting better (I know, it's only the second episode). Can't wait until the next episode. (No preview D': I've got to check the website later)

The people in the universe are led by some type of odd world thoughts if they are truly claiming that Yashio is the weird one. If anything the girl, Akiho is with her megane mode and her mech obsession. Anyway, I really like Yashio by the time the episode is over. Moving behind the scenes to get the parts and even having a cool line to convince the old man. Anyway Tanegashimachine-3S looks nice and hopefully Yashio operates it.

The drama reminded me of Little Busters, which both seemed to pull at episode two, in this case for Robotics;Notes main character having a random disease, Elephant and Mouse Syndrome? Kind of suspenseful

this episode was kinda slow and dragged on for the first half, but things got pretty interesting fast

getting the robot to work, aki's condition surfacing, kai agreeing to become the robot's operator, planning to get in contact with the KILL-BALLAD creator, and misa ignoring aki's call...

alot of good stuff packed into that second half of the episode

although it's kinda slow right now, i hope this series continues to get even more interesting (kinda like how steins;gate was)

Pretty good episode. It's nice how Kaito secretly is willing to go eat something that he really hates just for Aki and her sister. I also found Aki's scenes with Doc hilarious. "Like anyone would bother with an infantile brat like you!" lol

I'm liking the show a little more after this episode. I was a little worried last week about episode 1 because:

1.) I wasn't sure if I would be able to stand Aki's personality down the line. 22 episodes of genki girl might get a little grating
2.) I wasn't buying Kai and Aki's relationship, mainly because it looked like at the time that Kai really didn't want to be there.

This week addressed both of it, showing Kai having a reason to look after Aki, and Aki being freakin' psychic. I mean how cool is that? We'll see where next week takes us!

and so Aki has some illness heh no wonder she acts as though every minute is her last, very hyperactive girl
and that means Kai who is a slacker is their main operator or pilot for the robots they make

That wasn't a bad episode, things are moving along nicely. Things aren't fast, but it's also not so slow that it is boring. I don't understand the main male character at all, though. It seems as if he does close to nothing except be with the hard-working Akiho. Now I don't expect it to be a romance or anything, but he merely accompanies her, while she is the one who is getting things done (preparing for the event). However, I like where it is going, and am looking forward to more (whether it be preparing still or the actual event and results).

I too was a little worried after the first episode. There were several things that had me worried but this episode reassured me that this anime isn't falling into the same traps as other anime.

1. Akiho isn't Haruhi. Both are forceful and in their own ways, kind of annoying. However, a subtle difference I notice is Akiho doesn't force the issue and Kai isn't a poor sap who will fall for that begging, whiny crap. She knows when to let it go but also knows how to convince Kai at the same time.

2. Kai isn't the "retarded as hell" type who is in the club because Akiho is forcing him to. I loved that moment when Hidaka asked Kai why he even goes to the club and of course, Kai's response. However, we learned from this episode that Kai obviously cares about both Akiho and Misa. He does a lot of subtle things to support her.

3. The disease thing is an interesting twist and I am glad it isn't something ludicrous like a life-threatening injury. Sounds more like Vertigo or Narcolepsy. lol

4. This episode seemed to have more of a tonal shift. While the first episode was a more cut-and-dry introduction to the Robotics Club, this episode provided more of an in-depth look at the characters and their bonds. It was just interesting to see how it all flowed together and even seeing a little more of that "pompous ass Hidaka" as well as the "frugal but kind-hearted Doc", I think this anime is only going to get better and better. I remember Steins;Gate got off to a slow start and I consider the final product one of the best animes ever made.

Nope, FrauKojirou is not her. FrauKojirou is actually "Frau Kojirou"..
Notice the time difference between the call and the scene before it.

Actually it's not cool, It's not like the powers you see in shonen stories, it's just that her time-perception of things goes too fast until her brain cannot process it, resulting the weaken state that we just saw.

That's Narcolepsy, It's a sleeping disorder where the people suffering can suddenly fell asleep.

Akiho's syndrome is a bit different.
Basically, The thought process of 5 minutes as 1 second, try picturing you're trying to compress a large amount of file into smaller size, but with a very limited Processing power, usually your PC will stop responding, and that's what happening to her brain.
Basically her brain can't handle that much compressed processing.

Well, if anyone has a better analogy, feel free to post lol

Well I don't think it's an actual disease but I found a webpage where a doctor made a comparison to "elephant and mouse syndrome" (1) to explain "abnormal anxiety" or "fear that is out of control and out of proportion to the reality of the perceived threat." It fits; as she's certainly anxious by the end of this episode.

After a little more digging I stumbled across a webpage that claims "vasovagal syncope" is a form of fainting that can be triggered by anxiety. (2) Also, the Wikipedia page for vasovagal syncope doesn't include anxiety as a trigger but does include most of what she was experiencing in this episode in the list of possible triggers and claims that fainting episodes can be recurrent. (3) There's no information on these episodes having exactly 5 minutes of unconsciousness, but an otherwise healthy person probably wouldn't be out for much longer than that.

EDIT: It didn't occur to me that she may have been conscious during those 5 minutes until I re-watched. (I thought the clouds passing by was just a cinematic effect for the third person at first.) If this is the case its harder to understand how much it has to do with "elephant/mouse", but I do know that someone in a "blind rage" can "white-out" and perceive events in fast-forward while not having full control over their actions. It does seem somewhat reasonable that a 'white-out' can be stress or anxiety induced also.

Pretty interesting episode so far. I'm really loving the cast that's been introduced so far. The main character is no Okabe but he really got some very good development in this episode. It looks like his laziness and seeming indifference towards the club wasn't only because he was obsessed with Kill Ballad. He seems to genuinely care about Akiho and the reason he acts the way he does is to keep her enthusiasm in check and prevent her from overexerting herself.

I also really like Akiho as a character. She's energetic and positive but not to the point where it becomes obnoxious. The side characters are pretty great as well, especially the Doc. His interactions with Aki were pretty hilarious and I hope we see more of him later on. Even though it seems like R;N has a much larger cast than S;G it's characters are just as fun so that's a good reason to be optimistic. Although I'm very curious about Aki's sister and why she seems to be so distant from Aki. It must be related somehow to that boat incident they kept mentioning in the episode.

Trust me it's not about "giant robots", initially it's more about the characters trying to make one.

Robotics;Notes isn't really a mecha genre. But like it's predecessor it's more about the "sci-fi", the science behind robots.

Loved this episode for 5 reasons:
1) Same as episode 1, Aki's lovable, cute and admirable attitude towards life. It's just fantastic.
2) Her relationship with Kai is actually pretty sweet, with Kai acting like he doesn't give a damn but in actual fact he is willing to go all out for her.
3) The music was really good. There was an excellent orchestral theme accompanying pretty much the whole episode.
4) Seeing shades of mystery and suspense a viewer would expect as a result of this being the spiritual successor for Steins;Gate. The aurora, Aki's disorder and Aki's sister rejecting the call.
5) I can begin to apprecciate this series for its own qualities, and not just as a "continuation for steins;gate". Even if it veers off on a completely different direction, I'd love to watch it. It's convenient that I happen to completely love mecha anime I guess.

Overall a gigantic improvement from the first episode, voted '5', going to be eagerly awaiting next week's episode.

I think Aki is kinda loud and it can be annoying but somehow I like her a lot, that syndrome is interesting although it must be really hard for her to endure it.

Doc is awesome, I hope he gets much more screen time throughout the remaining episodes. What's with Aki's sister, why didn't she answer the phone, looks like it wasn't the first time she did that?
