Cool episode. Definitely had a SAO and AW feeling to it (all involve video games) and liked it. Def will watch this and the OP is epic, but not as Epic as SAO Opening 1. (damn there are so many awesome series happening this time around)

Throw your brain out entertainment. I doubt this will be anything more than that but still kind of fun.

Meh start, the MC is really dumb, come on, the first bomb should have been enough to notice they worked with a timer, and his opponent's bomb were fucking useless.

Its not that the bombs were useless but that the guy was a drug addict so his aim was terrible; if anything the cracker bombs are more suited for closer combat then Sakamoto's bombs because they blow up on impact rather than with a timer (granted the crackers have less firepower as a result)

It wasn't shown in a satisying way, the bomb exploded near the MC, and he always got out without any scratch.
It's anime. You have turn off your brain a little when it comes to realism.

HibiChouchou said:

He was a NEET, and suddenly being thrown to a battlefield. I felt more realistic (although the story itself is unrealistic) if he was shocked and didn't know what's going on in the first place. And it's also his first time killin' a person.

I would feel dumb if the mc was acting almighty, became a badass, kill that guy less in 11sec with his 10sec time-bomber. That would make him looks like a gary stu and bad char development.

I don't want the MC to immediately become a badass, but I want him to use his brain. He saw the timer the first time the bomb exploded... That should have been enough.
He's never seen those bombs before in real life and he was being chased by some crazy dude. I thought that he figured it out pretty quickly for someone in his situation.

As for Himiko, LOVED her seeing her sexy body, though I couldn't figure out how she didn't notice the MC sleeping right in front of her.

Good then.

Don't get wrong, I don't have any problem with the story thus far, but the execution was far from perfect.

So far I haven't been able to see anything good in the mc. Where did that strength you had in the game go? You throw a controller at your mother that was going to kill her if it hit (see the impact on the wall) but you are scared of throwing bombs at some guy that would have killed you if it wasn't for the plot armor? If that girl in the end start to fall for him for no reason then I'm out of here.

That was pretty intense. A real life survival game based on a game with explosives. I wonder what the reason behind the whole game actually is...

So next time we'll learn more about the girl. It looks like she was a rape-victim of some sort. And what the hell was going on with his mother?

This was pretty good, but damn the MC is so stupid. But since he is "#1" he should get a lot better soon.
I'm looking forward to more of this.

What you all need to know, is that NANO SANG THE OP //F*CKINGFANBOOOY

THIS SO MUCH. I've only heard her Rolling Girl and glow covers, but I think I love her even more after hearing that badass OP!

Back to topic, I thought Ryouta was kinda stupid, but I still enjoyed this episode anyway. I have high expectations for this series.

Well so far so good, it's falling the Manga almost Bang on, really cannot wait for the appearance of Kousuke, though back to the episode. Loved it though exactly like when I read the Manga I was a bit uncertain whether to like Ryota or hate him, I mean just how much of a dick he was to his family made me want to punch him. lol, but I loved the episode!

Decent first episode. Nothing spectacular, but it definitely held my interest the whole time, and that's all I can ask for. The OP is great.

Wow, OP is sung by Nano, and I'm pretty sure I heard May'n. Great choices.

They're going to sexualized everything Himiko does, aren't they. Poor girl, lol.
She's going to go through a lot of shit because of the large male cast, isn't she. Good luck to her.
I'm hoping everything will go well for her in the end. And I'm liking her voice a lot.

The premise reminds me of Battle Royale, so I'll be looking forward to the character development.
We're only one episode in, so I'm giving this time and I'll see how the main character will grow.
He's got somewhat of a grasp at reality, but he still needs time to adjust and whatnot.
And apparently, his voice actor is new to the industry.
I think he fits the role well so far.

Can't wait to see the other characters get introduced.
And learn why they've been chosen to participate in the game, but it'll take some time.
They're probably all people with some problems and that's why they're there.

For those who've read the manga and thought it was awesome, like me, would you say this is a bad adaption or not? I know there's only been 2 episodes so you can't really say much yet but what do you guys think of it so far? And try not to have the usual "the original is always so much better" bias mentality.

I've been reading the manga for so long and I didn't know how to pronounce the title until now hahaha

Anime Sakamoto doesn't really like the manga Sakamoto but screw it, Madhouse knows how to handle action and the jungle looks frikkin' awesome. His voice suits him considering his character but it was really stupid of him to take so long to realize how his bim works.

Judging from the OP they might even cover vol. 8 and maybe 9 (which I haven't read yet), hence why are they already doing Himeko's past who looks even hotter in the anime.

Paul said:
How much bombs do each players have? From the looks of it Sakamoto only had 8 based on what was shown. That other guy used 6 and was about to use his 7th and 8th but didn't look like had any plans to stop as he was pretty much going trigger happy. Sakamoto even took his pouch and said he "Do I have to use his bombs to survive?" or something along those lines, meaning he still had some left...? From what I'm guessing though, he probably has a lot more, that or they somehow refill...? Don't tell me the pouch has a unlimited amount of bombs now do they?

Why is everybody comparing this show to SAO? I can't find any similarities outside of both being anime and the MC's of both being gamers(even then, they are different kinds of gamers).

SAO is a romance/adventure series, Btooom! is an action/psychological drama series. The MC of btooom! is 6 years older than Kirito.. Btooom! does not take place in a VR world. etc.. etc..

^Too many SAO fans looking for something similar I guess lol. But Shit Art Online is not even in the same caliber as Btooom. This series is way grittier and brutal compared to SAO and isn't as retarded. Once the show progresses, then people will actually see the differences like its not in a virtual world like you said.

Till then, let people make their complaints saying shit like the MC is dumb as fuck lol. Trust me, he isn't like Shinji from NGE- annoying throughout. By ep 3 we'll see Ryouta taking charge probably

This show will probably become SAO's rival as it goes on.

Though it had it's flaws in it's Pilot episode, It's great nonetheless. Loved the OP and the ED. It fits the show, really.

To those people who are judging this show already, Please just stop 'cause it's just the first episode. It will become better i suppose.

Just like the OP singer said "THE GAME HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN"

Mixed feelings about this one. During the opening scene, I thought Btooom's gameplay wasn't very entertaining. It's very strategic with the absence of any guns and the variation of bombs that a player can use but it wasn't great to watch. Their battle suits couldn't be more generic either.

I'm very glad the show decided to focus on the real world Btooom and I enjoyed the mystery island setting very much. It'll be interesting to explore the psychological effects of killing in the real world compared to killing in the game.

Next ep looks promising. I'm eager to find out why each person was brought to island to play this twisted game.

Holy smokes! That was fun.
Removing the cliche stuff like guns and knives and only using bombs.

I actually kinda like the protagonist so far... his actions are terrible in real life... but yeah, I can't wait to see more of Sakamoto's hardships.

And Himiko is hot!

The OP is quite good.

I can't seem to see how this is similar to SAO in any way as well, lol.
Reminds me more of Battle Royale and the Hunger Games if anything because, well, the concept.

Interesting to hear. As the story progresses, I'm sure he'll pick up very quickly.
I haven't read the manga yet, so I'll be anticipating the main character's development.
But him figuring out the timer on the bomb part was a lol moment.

uhh....yagami light is not as dumb as this guy.....seriously, the first bomb he set off by mistake shouldve *hinted* that it was a timer bomb

he's also pretty dense with the cracker bomb guy, seriously plead for your life a few more times while he lights you up with a few more bombs....AAAND, he's a pretty big douche to his mom....pretty despicable guy overall....better hope for some char development stat or i hope they kill him off

btw......this doesnt feel like SAO in any sense other than they are playing a game with real lives at stake, and even then, it's a pretty loose comparison.....based on the gritty and mature themes, I would say that BTOOM closely resembles GANTZ...artwork is pretty similar, too

From where do writers/directors get the idea that using gunshots/bombs everywhere makes it more exciting?

Many explosions + No harm = Kills the excitement

And that was extremely retarded how long it took him to figure out it was a timer...are you for real?

Well that said, it looked good, and the backgrounds are as good as those of the anime K

I has watched first episode and then remembered I had read Btooom manga. I got bored with it - I completely disliked the direction of the story. Yawn-worthy. I guess i can ignore this anime safely.

I'm a fan of the Btooom! manga so I'm watching this anime. I haven't looked through the 10 pages of this thread, but am I the only one who thinks the voice actor's voice for Sakamoto just doesn't match up to expectations? I was expecting something deeper, similar to that of Light (Death Note).........but instead, he sounds like a kid.
