interesting... the moon is red in MH's version too. It's pretty, so I like it. (I wonder if Togashi intended it to be red in the manga?)
I squealed like an idiot when I heard the soundtrack that started when Kurapika first started talking, it's one of my favorites. x3
And I love the differences from NA's version~
well... for the fight itself, not so much the talking while Uvo's captured part (before the CM break, after the break it's awesome again)
But I guess in the 2011 anime, Kurapika being able to fly/jump super high is canon? xD cuz I remember people complaining about something like that in a Hunter Exam ep..

I was grinning so hard throughout this ep, but when Kurapika started hitting the restrained Uvo... I couldn't stop gritting my teeth, Uvo... ;_;

Definetely gonna watch this many times over. Still the best fight of the whole series, so far.

Gawd, I love you, Kurapika.

Once again, it failed to deliver the amazing sensation in some scenes, like the manga did. But that's just nitpicking. It still was fantastic.

Even though I have seen this already, Kurapika's chain techniques is still very epic!
Conjurer when normal, but he is a Specialist when his scarlet eyes grow!

Awesome. Can't wait to see him fight another Phantom Troupe member.

Not quite. Don't forget the fact that Kurapika can only use his abilities against a Phantom Troupe member. He's powerless against all the other Nen users. On the other hand, Gon has limitless potential for growth and can easily surpass current Kurapika within a few years.

I imagine it took a lot of self control to meet in a random building and somehow get to a deserted area without one of them attacking the other one.
And lol Ubogin: he just tosses his crumpled beer can at Kurapika. In the 1999 version he crushes it into a bullet and shoots it at Kurapika who nonchalantly knocks it away with his chain.
IMHO, the 1999 version was more memorable and impactful, the 2011 was a standard but good shonen fight.

i thought that condition is only applicable to his Conjurer-Mode?
since in Specialist-Mode he can master all nen types, i mean he only uses his Specialist-Mode now to power up his Conjurer-Mode Chains right?

Yes it can be used against non-spider opponents because it is considered as self buff skill. That's why his Specialization Nen is a complete HAX.

This is the description of Emperor's Time in hunterpedia:

When Kurapika's eyes shift into scarlet, he changes from a Conjurer to a Specialist. This ability allows him to utilize all the types of Nen to 100% efficiency (for a Conjurer). In the manga, Kurapika explains this using the terms "Level" and "Force/Accuracy". Kurapika's "Levels" in the various Nen categories remain the same during Emperor Time, however, his Force and Accuracy for every category is raised to 100%. Thus, if Kurapika's Level in Conjuration were 10, his Level in Emission (the polar opposite aura type) would be 4, and during Emperor Time, he would be evenly matched against a Level 4 Emitter at 100%. Outside of Emperor Time, his Force and Accuracy in Emission would at most be only be 40%.

Great execution done by Madhouse! Uvogin coughing up blood was actually more intense than when I read that part in the manga. The animation was amazing as usual and you can tell the best animators put their work here.

Also the cinematography at the end when Uvogin is getting the shit beaten out of him and finally his death was WOW! Uvogin's death was channeling some Death Note there when L died! Seriously FANTASTIC EPISODE!

I'll agree on the fact that this fight was more memorable in the 1999 version. After all, there is a reason why many claim this fight to be the peak of the 1999 series.

However, I hardly think that this was a standard shounen fight. Whether you found the excecution to be perfect or not, this fight demonstrated a turning point for Kurapika's character. Plus, this was hardly a fight to begin with. Uvo was outmatched from the very beginning and when I think about it, Kurapika was cold in letting Uvo think he had a fighting chance in the first place.

Now impact-wise, both versions impacted me in different, but equal ways. The 1999 version left me heartbroken for Kurapika because he obviously went against his peace-loving nature and committed cold-hearted murder in spite of it. After he murder's Uvo, he collapses in complete shock and horror at what he's done. This is a completely human response.

On the other hand, in the 2011 version Kurapika seems to completely forsake all of his humanity for the sake of his revenge. After killing Uvo, his response is numb and cold. He seems to feel no horror, no shame, and no guilt. He only comments on how he stayed too long in his scarlet eyes state. As he buries Uvo, you can see that his eyes are lifeless and that his movements are almost mechanical. Needless to say, I was stunned by how brutal and inhumane Kurapika was in murdering Uvo. Even though I knew that this was going to happen, I was still stunned by the how cold-hearted it was.

Ok, so the execution of the episode wasn't entirely perfect, but when it came to portraying Kurapika's dark side, this episode was spot-on in my opinion. All-in-all, this was a great, great episode.

R.I.P. Uvo...the expression he makes before he dies always gets to me >_<

(Gah, I didn't mean to write that much but I had to write it all down otherwise I would've forgotten it lol)

It's not as broken as you think. Like you said, the "levels" do not change during Emperor time, which means that his Enhancement and Manipulation abilities (the ones he uses most of the time) are at most 6/10 the level of his natural affinity. And Emperor Time can not be used for a long period of time.

Kurapika's strongest ability however, is the Chain Jail IMO. And the reason why Kurapika is not as strong as many people think is that he can't use Chain Jail on non-PT members.

You can't compare the two characters when one is already using risk & condition, while the other hasn't even thought abt what nen powers he want.

HxH is very logical and realistic when it comes to gaining powers. Just like in real life where you can either earn money by working and gradually building up your wealth (where how fast depends on your talent, but you can't escape having to work hard for some period) or taking a huge risk to get a huge return in a short time (like gambling or investing). Only in rare occasions do people inherit huge wealth without doing anything.

Similarly, in HxH world you only get huge powers from long time training or from harsh conditions, restriction or risk. Kurapica's red eye condition fall in that rare occasion of 'inheritance' , but even it has time limits (he was tired after only fighting 5 min).

HxH don't follow the standard unreasonable shonen rule where the protagonist has to be the strongest, so they become stronger than fighters who've trained for decades (and in Bleach centuries) within months without having to take on any risk or restrictions.

So unless Gon use the risk and return trick, or inherit some privilege power from his dad, he will have to go the long way to built up power.

While I prefer the original version, a good fight is still a good fight. Uvo should've shouted.
"Why do I always realize it... when I've already lost it..." -Guts, Berserk
"Some things are beautiful because they cannot be obtained." -Gilgamesh, Fate/stay night
"We are constantly living in a peaceful world that somebody else won for us. Even if it were only a day of peace, I will be grateful for its value." - Minashiro Tsubaki, FAFNER
"Screw you, future me!" -Makise Kurisu, Steins;Gate
"We used to show off by waging wars and whatnot." -Watashi, Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita
"Call me Moses. I'm going to part the sea of students before your eyes." -Moses?, Valvrave
"Time is guilty." -Andō & Tomoyo, INOU-Battle

That was an amazing fight, in my opinion it tops the 99 version purely jsut from how absolutely badass Kurapika is in this. They also just animated it better, have a much more fitting VA fro Uvo and they left they didn't censor it nearly as much as the 99 version did leaving in some of the bloodier details like the whole torture scene thing and Uvogin getting buried.
Not saying anything against the origional fight of course, despite the fact I still feel York New was the worst part in the 99 version I admit to enjoying the fight in that anime, but then again I am enjoying yorknew more in general in this version of the anime anyway.

Wow... that was painful to watch! It gave off a totally different feeling than the 1999 version did and I don't remember the manga being so brutal. The animation was brilliant at the start where Kurapika was 'flying' and sending his chains everywhere, and I felt for Kurapika a bit. To be honest though I was a lot more with Uvo. (This is my third time round though, so I knew it was coming and it upset me. orz.) Kurapika was so brutal while he was punching him and the coughing up blood... I couldn't help thinking that Uvo just wasn't selling out the Spiders, he wasn't sacrificing his team. He might be a murderer, but I still love him for that. I'm so glad Madhouse has stopped shying away from gore, the impact of the whole fight was huge.

Superb chapter and unexpected, is unexpected because in the new edition of hxh there wasnt a real dark side how the old one, they were doing the series somehow for children too, they put some dark matters but not a really hard ones. I would even say that the first chapters maked me to be uncomfortable with the future of the new edition, they pull it together the series and it wasnt a total fall down. But now they are showing us torture and murder, and they are doing it in a great chapter.

They showed us emotions in the characters: Uvogin is rage, resolve and at the end helplessness. He is really frustrated and he prefers to die before of giving in any request of Kurapika, unbreakable until the end. All of Kurapika is biterness and hatred, but at the end it seems that he doesnt want to kill him, he doesnt enjoy killing a human being, and he tries to crush the Uvogin will more than killing him.

The only thing that i didnt like so much of this chapter was the fight itself, it wasnt as espectacular as others. But it was good anyway. The best chapter of hxh for much.

I like this new version quite a lot even though there are things the old one did better:

+ for fhe new version:
-> More graphic and gore
-> More animated

+ For the older version
-> Uvo looked more like a fucking giant and scarier
-> Better artwork

I really like how Uvo got totally destroyed at the end. There are some really nice actions.
