No, I do not. I've seen some classmates go down that road, and it's not pretty. Although, other manga and anime readers/watchers would talk with you and discuss manga/anime with you, (If they know you read/watch anime or manga) which is good to have someone to discuss things with you in person.

I really don't care if they see. But I dont like to read manga in public because people starts asking me what are you reading so it really bothers me and I can't concentrate on the manga's plot so I do not like to read in public unless I have no choice.

When I have a manga, I'll read it whether I'm in public or at home. Anyone that matters isn't going to freak out over me reading manga. lol

The only real exception is anything with sex scenes, because I figure I shouldn't be showing that stuff off in public anyway.

I read all my manga online, so I mostly do it at home, but when I do occasionally read manga when I have my laptop with me at school or something. I also read on my phone when I can, so I don't really mind reading it in public. Who really cares that much anyway?

I always read manga everyday and everwhere, I don't care what others think about me. They always say that i'm a weirdo but it's all right because I know they can't appreciate my fashion.,I tried to approach some people about it but they only say it's only for kids and happy go lucky type..

I don't care what they think I just want to express my self.

I usually read manga when I'm traveling. So I usually read it in public on buses and airplanes and in airports. That way I can read in peace without people I know seeing me and asking me a whole bunch of annoying questions(Like "what's that?" "Is that a comic book?" "You actually like this stuff?" etc.).
But I do read light novels everywhere.

This, I read all my manga online since I don't know any bookstore that sell physical manga books.

Yes, I do :D I have no problems with what people see me read. I often read them on trains/long subway journeys and on the plane, or anywhere where I'll be sitting and waiting for awhile.

I used to bring them to work to read, but often I'd get the "what's that?" type of question and I end up spending my break explaining it to them rather than reading it *sigh*. So I've stopped bringing them there.

I already read manga in publice, but I just picked up the first nine vol. of Naruto and I'm sure someone is going to have to say something about that. I mean EVERYONE knows what is or has heard of Naruto, hell even my grandparents do just from it always being on Cartoon Network when I was younger (I never watched it back then....). I feel like I'm pushing my ballsyness to a new level with this.

Interesting, it seems in lots of places reading manga is something that should be embarassing. Even though I'm not living in japan, in my country it was totally okay to read manga, a lot of people does after all.
As for me, it depends on the manga. I used to do it a lot though. Reading something with girlish/ecchi cover is always a bit embarassing.

Now I get to think of it, I've rarely seen anyone do it in my country, but that's probably because it's not that popular here. I guess I would read it out in public if I could, sadly I don't own any and need network connection to read :(

My answer is someone looks down at me for reading manga. "Well, at least I am reading something, willingly and freely by choice. That is more than I can say for many others who don't want to read at all."
Now, if it is a more mature manga (18+) I am a bit more cautious. Mainly because I don't need to embarrass or upset the overly curious busybody who chooses to look over my shoulder at what I am reading, instead of smartly asking. That and the possibility of a little kid seeing something they may not be ready for.

I used to pop into the library every now and then a couple of years back and have a gander at the manga they had, but chiefly I like to read manga in the comfort of my own home, sprawled on the sofa. I've seen others reading it in public, though. Once I saw some kid reading Eden: It's an Endless World on the train, though it was one of the earlier volumes without the explicit material.

Yes, but I have to make sure it's SFW...Accidentally read Eden! It's an Endless World in public. Random nudity scenes and gore everywhere.
Recently, read Nemureru Hoshi on the train. Had to cover it every time the MC tried to have sex with a girl.

I can't remember the last time I've read anything in a public place, aside from maybe the newspaper. I suppose I generally wouldn't be opposed to the idea of reading manga in public, although that would probably also depend on the specific one I am reading and where I am doing that (if it's a noisy place I'd rather not read it, would ruin the atmosphere).

Yeah I read it in public. I mean I don't really care if others around make fun of me or not, i'm not going to try to hide the fact that I like manga. If they make fun of me well to bad, they probably have nothing else to do anyways. I usually will read it in the school library or anywhere quiet, just because I like the quietness better when reading.

Exactly.

About the problem of some covers being a bit difficult to show in public, switching covers work pretty well anyway.

I don't care what others think, but I'm picky about how I read my manga. I prefer reading on the bus, in a library or at home under the covers.
