| This is definitely getting exciting. Probably my favorite episode so far. Can't wait to see what will happen to Jim & co. Plus that marooned guy is a nice addition to the cast. |

| In the novel Abraham Gray isn't an eccentric badass as here; he joins the mutineers yet is clearly bothered by the immorality of what he is doing. Sensing this, Smollett gives him a chance to escape with them on the boats and be forgiven for having (temporarily) joined the pirates. The book describes Trelawney as a very good shot (as a country Squire he likely hunts a lot) and indeed in this episode he very nearly makes a very difficult shot while on the boat. In a very small change from the original, here Ben Gunn says he's survived on fruit and fish while in the novel he says he hunts a herd of goats that live on the island. This tropical version of the setting doesn't allow goats, I think. |
