I accidentally voted yes, lol. I meant no, I listen to a lot of songs where I don't even know (or just don't care) what they are singing. It just sounds awesome.

As almost everyone else has said, no. I almost never pay attention to the lyrics. And even when I'm listening to songs in other languages, I don't need to understand what they're saying as long as the song is good.

I used to do that until I listen the Kore wa Zombie desu ka first opening. At first its so catchy that I started singing but then I read the subtitles....

Not going to sing that again xDD

Knowing what song you are listening is also important. But that doesn't necessarily apply to everything. xDD

No. Music is music, usually other languages can provide more emotional value in them. For example Japanese music, I kind of dislike it but when combined with music it is beautiful. Same for Russian, my main language but I like the speaking of it and how it goes in music. English is nice but very limited because the language all sounds so dull to me.
but you don't even know how dank my memes are

No, I listen to many different languages, at least 14 different languages when I checked from my playlist. I also listen music where singer's voice sounds e.g. like someone is either killing a pig or singer swallowed a rat and is trying to cough it out. This makes it quite hard to hear the lyrics correctly. Sometimes it's even hard to tell what the language is, lul.

Nope, I listen to a lot of songs from different languages; It doesn't matter to me whether or not I know what they're saying.

No. I listen to songs for the music, lyrics are just icing on top of the cake.

Considering a few bands I listen to have lyrics consisting of Nazi ideology, it's safe to say that lyrics aren't the only thing that matters. That said, lyrics could still easily make a song 10x better for me.

If I did, I wouldn't listen to rap. I don't understand all the references and slang (like WTF does "flip chickens" mean?), but the songs are usually pretty catchy. I listen to the beat more than anything else though.

Not really. I don't really care about lyrics, they're usually just...there. I hardly ever know what's being said in a Vocaloid song, but I still love the shit out of it because of all the stuff happening in the background and how the lyrics are being sung. This goes for every Spanish, English, whatever song too.

J-pop was one of those I didn't understand and listen a lot. But understanding them allowed me to expand my interest to some more artists' works.

Lyrics aren't important for me so, no. I pay attention for a music's instrument the most, even if the singing isn't as good. I have many songs with different languages and some instrumental songs which don't have lyrics at all

I prefer pop music in languages I can't understand. It makes it harder to pick apart how stupid I think the lyrics are.
I have to believe that when things are bad I can change them

Lyrics are great and all, But I don't mind. Though I have begun to understand japanese so alot of the time I understand the words that are sung, thanks to watching years of anime.

I have some examples where bad lyrics can completely ruin a song.
The most important is the music, lyrics came after.

I very rarely listen to anything with lyrics that I don't understand. If something I like is in a language I don't know, as is the case every once in a while, I often try to look up what the lyrics mean, and if it's a language I know how to pronounce, I usually learn the lyrics. If it's something like French or Korean, though, I haven't a clue how to read and pronounce the language, so when it comes to singing along, as I love to do, I often just make sounds that sound close >.>

Well I only listen to J-music so it really doesn't matter to me. All of my friends tell me I'm wierd but you don't hear me complain about most rappers talking about sex, drugs, money, and women. Oh wait, they do.

nope! but i prefer English because the lyrics can make a good song better. i don't mind a song of a different language as long its music to my ears, just like classical music that doesn't need lyrics.

nope..even if it's in a language i understand, i don't really try to understand the lyrics, teehee

the music and rhythm gets to me first, then i realize the meaning much later, and when i like the meaning that's when i'd come to really love a song

i don't understand japanese and korean music though..but i like them ^.^

No, not really. Though, I rarely do listen to music that is not english though. If I find something catchy, i don`t really give a damn.

However, if we are talking about hip hop, I do need to understand the lyrics, sort of the only reason why I prefer underground compared to mainstream which is just pure garbage, probably the worst music you can find on this planet

I like a lot of Japanese and Korean music, and I don't really understand either language.

I find that when I look for translations of the songs I like, I become less fond of them... It's as if I create the lyrics of the songs, and finding the real lyrics somehow ruins the song for me.

lol...didn't expect to be in the minority (Yes) but considering this is an anime community, guess I shouldn't have been.

I don't like music I can't understand. I'm korean/japanese/american though, so that's a large part of the music industry covered.

I'm guessing the abundance of No's is from people who listen to a lot of Japanese songs. On this site I imagine it would be so.

I listen to instrumental music a lot, especially classical and orchestrated. If not, then I just listen to a lot of progressive rock/metal; I don't really care for the lyrics, just the awesome sound that comes from it.

I don't listen to j-rock or j-pop. If anyone has any suggestions, then go ahead.

It's the emotion that goes into the song not whether I understand the language. There is a difference between understanding the lyrics and understanding the language.

Of course not, because:

I have music from 30 different countries and in about 18 different languages by my count, and I can only understand about 2 of the languages that I listen to songs in.

This. Althogh it's only 15 languages and 28 countries for me.

Not really, as long as it sounds good it's okay for me. But sometimes I'm curious what the lyric means and I try to understand it lol

When i find a song i like since it sounds good but don't get its meaning i always look for its translation. Aniway, after a while i forget it, so it is like i've never done that. eheh At least i know it doesn't offend anybody

If it sounds good I don't care what the singer wants to tell me. Well as long as it's not some strange kind of hypnosis world submission message in it..

It depends. If I'm listening to a kind of music that lyrics aren't exactly important, like Melodic Death Metal, then I don't care if it's in English, Swedish or Greek. I don't understand Korean or Japanese either, but I don't mind listening to pop songs in those languages. I guess it's because I don't understand the lyrics, which I imagine them to be quite crappy and about love and such.

Seriously, it's not a big deal most of the time.

I have a tendency to listen to only music which I can understand the lyrics. The reason for this is because one of the things I like about listening to music is hearing the story in the song.
