Hyouka has really improved since the cultural festival started. Seeing each character in their own separate worlds last episode brought a whole new prespective to the show.

And in this episode seeing them all come together to accomplish something was very nice.

Dat character development.

Hyouka does slice of life much better than it does mystery. Although next episode's mystery that the past two episodes have been leading up to actually seems interesting.

Loved it, as always. Oh man, can't wait for an explanation of the Kanya Fair thief! Maybe they were the one that stole Mayaka's manga from her? Of course, if that was the case, they're probably part of the manga society along with her.

I never get sick of seeing the cosplays in that club. I find them very amusing.

Satoshi's cooking skills reminds me of my own: Able to make a decent meal, but not going to be efficient about it.

Also, the musical arrangements are approaching legendary levels.

wow, better than Hell's Kitchen. Reminds me of a chef episode where kids were in outdoor kitchens in Disneyland. The daikon peeling was epic!

Irisu n' Eru: is that a tug-of-war handshake? wa....? LOL
Mayaka: drawing, running, cooking, that's a lot of genki. Nice double bonnet hairstyle.
Eru: inu ability activated: super dog ears to sense lazy Hotaru
Oreki: shouting across a baseball field is a lot of energy for him. yep hard work.

Tonjiru 豚汁, pork miso soup: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butajiru
Is like tonkatsu ramen w/o the noodles?

giseyaki 擬製豆腐(豆腐と野菜入り卵焼き): http://www.kikkoman.co.jp/homecook/search/recipe.php?numb=00000516
or geisei yaki (imitation food grilled/broiled/pan-fried)
The ingredients use hard tofu, so what's fake about it? Maybe if it uses imitation crab or rice flour then it makes sense.

So in the ending... Chitanda is Sherlock Holmes, and Mayaka is Agatha Christie [still unsure if it's her, or one of her characters]

All the words in the background are books/short stories by Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie

And I'm guessing Mayaka was dressed up as Mabel West from the anime: "Agatha Christie no Meitantei Poirot to Marple"

Satoshi's smile at Mayaka <3

Loved the entire episode. I'd say this is one my favorite episodes that DON'T include mystery.

Hope next episode is as good, and if we're lucky, the mystery starts. (:

Well they did mention they were going to do this last episode, and I think the purpose was to build suspense.

This episode was actually pretty nice, I liked it. Lol that cooking contest actually pretty fun. Mayaka was great this episode, and oh yeah Chitanda was being a cute airhead as usual. Ehh all she has to do is do her Kininarimasu look with her sparkly eyes and I think she can get anyone to do anything. Even Irisu was sorta affected by it lol.

That astronomy club girl was awesome, haha I love that look in her face while she was cooking. And oh yeah obviously Houtarou worked the hardest in the contest mhm.

This episode was full of win! I loved every second of it. Mayaka was awesome this episode. I feel like this is the first time in the series she has really shined. I'm happy about that. Eru was cute, as always, this episode. I wouldn't be able to resist doing whatever she asked if she used those tips Irisu gave her. Looks like she will actually use them next episode. Should be interesting.

And that astronomy club girl's face when she was cooking was awesome. I'm pretty sure that's the same girl from the film mystery arc.
I don't accept random friend requests, but feel free to PM me if you want to talk about something i've posted or talk about some anime/manga that i've seen.

It's Dr.Watson, not Agatha Christie. I think.

THIS... was the best reference of all imo. It was clearly Ragna the Bloodedge from Blazblue :--D Oh gawd I was so surprised something like that happen. Absolutely brilliant.

Other than that, I loved the episode. It was intense to some degree and was just enjoyable to watch - everyone of the club got their part, especially Mayaka. It was just great.

Edit: Wide image in spoilers please.

Lol as expected of Oreki XD . I love seeing people cook so it was a good experience for me but Chitanda was probably the one that helped them win . Though i really enjoyed Mayaka's performance in the last few minutes

I really think this is possibly the best Hyouka episode so far. The show is really at its best when it focuses on the characters and entertainment rather than the silly mysteries, which are really hit or miss. Hopefully the next episode keeps up to this kind of quality, I'd definitely love the show a lot more if that was the case.

The classics club was highlighted very nicely to the rest of the school.

But Mayaka was pretty bad-ass.

I don't really get people here saying that they hated this episode because it lacked mystery and the anime is going off track. What the hell is your problem? Did you really expect that this anime would be detective conan or lupin or something, obviously not. As if you did not know that aside from mystery this is a SLICE-OF-LIFE anime, am I right? I loved this episode, too much romance ♥ it makes me melt, and I think this anime has the best character development. I hate Eru now, I'm in love with Mayaka...

GOOD JOB, Mayaka!
And Houtarou, too.

Next thing is missing.
Eventually will they take this "case" or only talk about how they're "interested" in this?

OH MY...

The third day of Kanya Festa.

Mayaka was wonderful in this episode!

And i'm not sure if it's just me, but i lol-ed when the announcer shouts "WILD" at the start of the competition and its followed by a typical unenthusiastic "fire" from Oreki xD

I like the cooking competition. It's like a breath of fresh air compared to the standard scenes you see in every cultural festival in most anime.

I wish every cultural festival could be this amazing. I love seeing Oreki finally stepping out of his comfort zone.

On a side note, where dem fat girls at? Is it impossible to be even slightly obese in this anime?

Haha! When Oreki swapped the gun for the cookies and random flour bag, I thought to myself 'Is this turning into an early Zelda game?'

Turns out, pretty much yes! He did need that random bag of flour to comp, lete an unrelated quest!
