The Straw Hats are so strong now that using this many enemies is literally just an excuse for a sandbox where the Straw Hats can show off their new moves and show off how cool they are.
I feel like Oda's appealing to human nature lol. To have Hordy be all "A FISHMAN WHO'S WEAKER THAN HUMANS DARE NOT CALL HIMSELF A FISHMAN" and toss dudes away is just making him ready to take a knuckle sandwich and a satisfying one at that. Like he has to know he'd be out cold by a human through underwater combat if not for the drugs those men of his aren't using. This was the case with Arlong too of course as he'd always preach that fishmen are 10x the strength of a normal human, but with how arrogant and hypocritical and reliant on drugs for any semblance of power Hordy is, it makes me so excited for him to lose. It's like Oda is appealing to my monkey brain to give me some dopamine through setting up a jerk like him. I hope he downs drugs and drugs and drugs and still can't touch Luffy as he uses haki or whatever to dodge everything he could ever throw at him. Hordy himself realizing drugs won't even help him here before even losing would be the cherry on top.
Robin showed off the fact that she can now make giant feet to work as stomping devices to hold guys off and Franky showed off their two new weapons. I was expecting them to let everyone's hopes down as a joke, but it was actually just a steel motorcycle and a tank. A perfectly stylish ride for Franky to literally run guys over with and a perfect artillery weapon for Usopp's sniping skills. We have Vegapunk to thank for these I bet. I wonder what Nami's role in the tank is. Chopper is the commander, Usopp is the sniper, but will Nami get something to do while they're in there? I'm excited to see. Franky on the other hand made me appreciate his new hair even more. I love his new hair but the fact that he can literally set up his hair however he wants to be as stylish and cool as ever for what he's doing is brilliant. Push his nose for three seconds and set up whatever goes best with what he's doing, this time it was his traditional style. I love it so much. Those goggles are rad too.
Zoro and Usopp is my favorite Straw Hat duo, but Usopp and Nami isn't far off. The fact that they are two of the smartest people on the crew being logical most of the time, while also being somewhat cowardly but useful and having so much respect for each other allowing for them to work together well, yet still butting heads due to their idiosyncrasies and bantering, it makes them feel so much like brother and sister. More than anyone else with Nami in my opinion. In fact the way Oda shows how comfortable they are with each other has to be on purpose. The way Usopp can get a face full of her boobs and not even blush, or in Thriller Bark when he stuck his head into the bath to yell at her without the intention of peeking are some great examples. I love when they are together and seeing them pilot the tank together is beyond nice.
I also think Nami, more than the boobs, looks a lot more like a woman now. Like she changed from a girl to a woman for a lack of better terms. Her long hair and her new confidence make her feel so much more worldly. Remember back when she fought in Alabasta when she was so out of her element, or how cool she was when she fought Khalifa. Now she's only really shown fear over big deals, she can deal with many many things now and she knows that. She may not firstly be a fighter but she’s nothing to mess with. Even as she hid here it didn’t seem like she was actually scared but instead putting herself in the best possible position out of self interest. I thought I'd like Nami's short hair better but somehow long hair makes her seem more mature and I like that a lot. She feels different now.
As soon as the Kraken started to come out I knew it was going to be amazing. Not only has Hordy's massive army not done a single thing to the Straw Hats yet but that Kraken is not on his side either. It makes sense too, it goes with the themes. Like the sea monsters, Hordy tamed and enslaved Surume. Luffy's relationship with Surume on the other hand is far more as "friends" as Luffy put it. That alone is enough for Surume to decide to join him, cruelty only hurt Hordy in the end here. I'm sure it doesn't hurt that Luffy is so strong either. I was wondering why Shirahoshi wasn't leaving on Megalo but I guess that means no one will protect her so it's safer to stay here, and now with a Surume bodyguard it may be that the Noah is the only threat..
marywhistley said:* does anyone else think of Legolas and Gimli from "Lord of the Rings" when they see Zoro and Sanji antagonising?
I immediately thought of Legolas and Gimli from Lord of the Rings! I haven't seen the movies for a long time but I recall them fighting over who could slay more enemies at the end of the movies and Legolas taking down an elephant or something. |
