3. Sometimes halfway if i really can't decide to drop it at episode 3.

A series would have to be really bad or uninteresting for me to drop it though.

it depends. i don't really go by episodes.

its a sign for me to consider dropping it when i start to feel bored or have thoughts of dropping. a good and interesting anime would never make me feel that way.

There really shouldn't be a limit. If you dislike the show from the first episode and you don't feel like it's going to improve at any point, then drop it. If you're not having fun watching it, then there's no point. Obviously, you should trust your own judgment and also ask others/look up information before dropping it, to see if the show changes in any way.

Personally, I drop a hell of a lot of shows that simply didn't catch my interest. I used to be a completionist, and that was a huge waste of time. I actually can't even think of a single show that I ended up liking due to this attitude. There's too many great anime, books, albums, movies, TV shows, etc. out there so I don't want to waste 6+ hours on something that I most likely won't even enjoy.

I recently met someone that told me his method is to give each anime 3 episodes before deciding. I kind of like that, so I may start doing things that way instead.

I kind of think there should be something for each anime that tells them when's the exact episode where you will know whether an anime fits your taste or not. Because for some anime 5 episodes might not be enough or 1 episode might be enough to know.

3-4, gintama is the exception because I really want to know why this anime is rated high in mal and I endured the first 24 average episodes(it was worth it.)

For a tv station the Pilot serves that purpose. As for an otaku, depends. For me personally, I usually see 1-3 episodes. If it is unbearably cheesy or too much fan service, I drop it in seconds unless informed otherwise.

usually if the first episode sucked i will put it on hold and then when i dont have any other anime left i will try it again and at that point i would watch maybe about 5 episode before i drop it for good
I'm not saying I'm gonna change the world, but I guarantee that I will spark the brain that will change the world..

Can't find my post in here..
If I find it interesting, 2-5 episodes.
I mostly put them on hold at the first episode though and then continue them if I have nothing else to do.

If the show is expected to have less then 20 episodes... 3 Episodes.

If the show is expected to have more then 20 episodes... 6 Episodes.

Sometimes more, Sometimes less.

I'm kind of a completionist. Most of the time.

I am surprised at the amount of episodes it takes most people to drop an anime, I wonder how many good ones they dropped even though they turn out to be great.

I don't drop shows, I might put them on hold, the shows that are in my dropped section are on time out. They pissed me off or bored me too much so they got put there. I will finish them some time.

2-3 episodes is usually enough for me to decide. I don't drop shows often however because I pick what I watch carefully.
