so was there any deep meaning behind Oreki's words when he was about to refer to his sister as "senpai" before she interrupted him? (was there any relation to what happened in ep. 11 maybe?)

A good bet because the narrative becomes that of classic slice of life. The plot focuses on Mayaka and begin to know her a little better and his inclinations, therefore she is a cosplayer. Does anyone know if there is a database of MAL manga referred to by the girl?
Narrative is nice also because I feel the atmosphere fun and interesting that you breathe during the festival!

New OP is cool, but the ED IS AWESOME >___<
Gotta say, really did enjoy this episode!! Seems like Mayaka confronts those baka cosplayers next ep, which is nice.

Chitanda was pure cuteness this episode, she's probably the only reason I am still watching this. I'm still baffled at how little happened in this anime so far, I guess I was expecting something different.

Satoshi did nothing, except for laughing. But we can't blame him because the show was fun, right?
Chitanda was distracted by the fun booths.
Ibara could not make an idea on how to sell their products.
Oreki was bored and alone in the classroom until their first, real customer came - it's a random dude with weird hairstyle and costume. But the guy was so cool - even Oreki was amazed.

The guy was attracted to Oreki's ballpen, so Oreki gave it to him. In exchange, the dude gave Oreki a CD, which is the pass ticket for the fashion show thing. I guess the ballpen, which Oreki's sister gave it to him in the beginning, had a purpose... Not sure though! Oreki did not bother to use the CD thing. But who knows? Maybe he will use it in future.

My question so far is: What happened to the film?

I'll find out then.

Episode was okay but kind of a slow one since no mystery cases were present. Though it was good Kenya Festival episode. Now they just need to gain attention by moving their booth into a different location so they can sell out their books.

Oh the Manga club is interesting to see, and Chitanda is getting distracted most of the time. Well at least they sold out one book...

This episode makes me want to go to a cultural festival soo badly!! I wish we have those in America~

Chitanda walks through the school like I walk through Target, so tempting =P jk, I'm not actually glued to a store, but if you're bored and walking around, you can find something to mess with in Target.

I like when the girl calls out Chitanda on the bridge, and she checks left and right, as if someone would seriously be standing on the ledge.

Mmm, I kinda miss the last OP, but this new one is also pretty good. Same for the ED, there was so much fanservice in the last one :P

Well, about the episode, it was great. It's kinda a new dynamic, though the school festival is like a classic in anime.

I didn't understood why Mayaka took that pill. Houtarou said that she should stop acting weird or Chitanda would get interrested in it. Does that mean he knwo something about it? She also seemed unconfortable the whole episode.

That costume Satoshi was wearing was so weird xD

Houtarou have the perfect position, doing barely nothing while other are working their ass off. Well, maybe except for Chitanda :P
They should have giving her a more suited mission for her.

Dang, that costume photo-shoot was great.

I wonder what will happen. Houtarou sister said that their festival never happen without an incident. I'm sure that the pencil, the number 7 thingy and what he overheard the window will become important later.

Houtarou somehow managed to get the "stay at the booth" job ... something perfect for him :P They DID get one customer though ... backstage pass to the fashion show? Sounds pretty cool ... though I'd probably be more like Chitanda and get distracted by everything. There are so many different things to see! I kinda wish my school did something like that :( Manga club cosplay too ... I spy some Vocaloids! Though it seems as though they're a bit angry at Mayaka because she said she didn't want to at first ... well, I'll be glad to see a little more of her! :3
Still, selling 200 copies (up from 30) is gonna be pretty difficult ... I wonder if that's going to be the "mystery" for this arc? I guess we'll have to see!
New ED this episode ... the theme fits pretty well :P As for the song, it's not bad either, but the animation of the girls trying to catch the boys is pretty funny lol XD

Guys... what the fuck is going on with this anime? =/

I was really into this anime at first, then it started having it's up and downs, now its just getting to the point where it's boring to watch. This is the first episode that was actually completely pointless. It has no plot, no arc starting, no character development, nothing.

Yes we got to see some moe Chitanda again, but pretty much nothing else.

I really hope this show picks up from this point considerably, both in the story telling and the character development.

Are you sure you didn't watch the episode 11.5, not 12? That episode is just an random OVA. The actual episode 12 is full of setup for the longest arc in the series, the cultural festival arc.

E: Let me correct myself. The Movie arc was longer, it seems. Huh... Second longest, then.

I actually found 11.5 a little more enjoyable than ep 12.

But yes, I'm on ~ep 15 now and yes I see that 12 was the start of a long arc. I still 12 was still a pointless episode, or at least the way they start to set it up (too slow?)

I'm not even really against episodes with no story movement, but at least give us some significant character development! See my previous post on previous episodes to see what I mean.

Well, whatever suits you. I liked episode 12 just fine, even though seeing Chitanda just derp around was kind of pointless... It's still so packed with setup that I can forgive it being slow. Think about it, it has the beginning of rather many story arcs: Selling the extra Hyoukas, Juumonji, Straw Millionaire, Manga Society... It's amazing they got all that in one episode.

About character development, Hyouka does it slowly, so one episode hardly ever has lots of it. Episode 11 was just a major exception, which is why the following episodes might seem kind of pointless in that section. Though I'd still say that there are nicely put bits and pieces out there that one notices more easily on the second run.

Well, whatever.

Hmm, this episode mainly sets up the festival, & possibly, a new case. It's nice not to think about problem solving for a bit, I suppose.

The group fist pump was awkwardly adorable! Freakin' Chitanda made every one of her awkward encounters throughout the festival adorable. Being forgetful of her club duties just adds on to that moe power!!!

Another character with noticeably bright colored eyes. This time: neon yellow-eyed Executive Committee Prez, Tanabe-san.

The episode really highlights Mayaka's perspective in this episode. I't's good to know her better. I knew that she was short, but damn she's even shorter than that Rin cosplayer. She faces her own problems as she tries to help sell the anthologies.

Houtarou has a customer! Broken pen trade for a backstage pass for a fashion show? More than worth it. That's a lucky pen!

To top it off, a very fitting ED. Wonder if there's a new OP.

Don't have any mysteries in this ep but the funny part when satoshi wear outfit galaxy.And oreki get the best job ever!!!!And the new ED is awesome

So I've noticed a trend in KyoAni shows (of the ones I've seen). One character will throw an object at a second character. The second character will make an attempt to grab the object, but fail miserably, only to have it just miss their hands or go right through them and nail them on the head.

It happened this episode of Hyouka when Houtarou's sister threw the pen at him.
Happened in episode 10 of Kyoukai no Kanata when Mitsuki flicked the popsicle stick at Akihito.
Happened in Chuunibyou when Yuuta shot a paper hornet at Rikka (probably other times as well, considering how much Rikka gets bonked on the head).
Knowing Nichijou, it probably happened there, too (can't remember, but it wouldn't surprise me).

Maybe I'm reading too much into this and it's actually a common thing in anime, but I feel like I only really notice this in KyoAni shows.

This episode was cracking me up, "don't talk in that outfit." I like the atmosphere around the festival, it drew me in and felt like there was far more detail put into the various activities going on around the school than what I see in most other culture festival episodes. Love the new ED, cute and clever.

Oh and also liked the interaction between Satoshi and Mayaka when they're walking to school at the start.

THe best job is no Job. Ep 12.

Plot: THe Kanya festival has begun but not everyone is in the high spirits. And no its not Oreki. The CC has gotten an overabundance of the Hyouka anthology and plans to sell them all. But they each run into their own problems in doing so. Can they pull their act together and get to business? Probably not.

Character: Overall pretty funny but the mention does go to Mayaka. Her reaction to her clubmates in the Manga Society paints a less rose colored idea. Maybe she's not as confident as she is with the others in the CC? We also got a new named character in Kouchi, who seems to look out for Ibara. COuld be important.

Chitanda was adorable. Just so distracted by the spectacle. Satoshi is unreliable but hilarious. "GAAALLAAXXYYY!!"

Oreki has the best job ever. If he had a game on hand, it would be complete.

Animation/sound: Mikansei Stride is a neat little OP. Love the idea of Houtarou on the other side of the mirror looking at the rose colored school life from his grey mirror right up until CHitanda pulls him in. Says alot. Kimi ni Matsuwaru Mystery is cute and fun to watch. Holmes Chitanda and...I wanna say Blackwood Oreki. Nice.

Also, KyoAni seriously makes some of the most appealing and creative OP/ED sequences in the entire industry! I especially love that super cute detective ending :3 Kimi no miiisuteriii~

Chitanda distracted with almost everything. Mayaka not much relevant this episode. I wait more things.
Satoshi gave a blunder nor helped the 1st time. The time of punk made me sketch small smile.
The new ending,that's so very good.

New ED was by far the best part. Not feeling too optimistic about how well this arc is going to hold my interest level.

The art style looks better now, but i hope this arc will have a more engaging story and not just silly stuff.

Honestly this school festival has been the most enjoyable part of the series so far for myself. It's just a shame when they're sitting in 1 room the entire episode, KyoAni does such a fantastic job drawing and animating everything. Chitanda was actually really cute this episode.

I absolutely loved this episode! This is slice of life at its finest!
Cultural festival episodes are nothing new, but I personally loved how lively this episode was. As a watcher, I felt like I was catapulted right into the festival, especially through Chitanda's curiosty- so adorable btw. As an international fan who is interested in Japanese culture, I really appreciated this episode even though plot wise nothing happened.

Very chill episode, will they be able to sell all 200 copies? I doubt it, but they will do better than 30 at least.

I hope I wasn't the only one who yawned when Oreki yawned in the beginning of the episode. He looked genuinely tired. I remembered my High School also did a Cultural Festival, but it didn't take off the following year, maybe it would of been similar to this episode had it been a success. Chitanda was just too cute in this episode! Her getting involved in the many clubs is very much like her due to her curiosity. I'd probably do the same if I was in her situation. The new Op/Ed is quite good too. All in all, this episode displayed the best cultural festival I've ever seen in any anime.

Not gonna lie, despite there wasn't any mystery to solve (yet), I enjoyed this episode way more than others only because of Eru and the way she was being distracted by the other clubs.

First episode of the school festival! No mysteries here, but there were an abundance of amusing and funny moments!

This is probably the most interesting Hyouka edition in years since it has actual research about school history in it, but they'll probably never make the money back

Absolutely nothing happened except that I have come yet again to the conclusion that I don't like Chitanda. She is supposed to be a top student but comes over as a complete airhead and seriously dumb. Worst of all - she is utterly annoying -_-.

No mystery this time, that's strange! Chitanda was very cute this episode though.

Chitanda actually has an attention span of goldfish but that only makes her cuter i swear. This culture festival must be a landmine field for her, everything is pulling her attention away from her main objective xD but i will say maid costume Chitanda, CHRISTMAS CAME EARLY BOIS
