=O

*smacks you* =P

For a lot of people, Robotech is what got them into anime in the first place, myself included.

I find it odd that there's no other details... what story/generation would this movie follow? Who would play what characters? How horribly butchered would it end up being?

And really, who could Tobey Maguire play? There's no way whatsoever he'd do well as Rick Hunter, and he just wouldn't fit anywhere else (unless he tried to do Max... but no actor can do Max justice. =P. Come to think of it, I don't think any actor can do any of those characters justice. XD).

Well, maybe if we see enough of the movie before it's close to release (I'm personally hoping it doesn't come that close to the light of day...), then maybe it'll be bad enough for fans to retaliate against it, like they did with Robotech 3000 (never got made due to extremely negative fan reaction).

I dont consider robotech as anime, its an americanized version of macross :)

anyways, a live action mecha movie doesnt sound that bad, tobey maguire on the other hand.........

I've never seen Robotech or the original series of Macross, or Southern Cross, or Genesis Climber Mospeada, but given that Robotech was supposedly a mash-up of the other three, I'm amazed that it was good enough that anyone could have liked it. I'd expect that a live action Hollywood version of that, with Tobey Maguire in, would suck more and harder even than the recent Transformers, and while that would truly be a bona fide achievement, I'd rather be a planet or so away when it happens so I can avoid the bullshit fallout.

I'm not sure how it compares to the originals, but Robotech is actually quite good. Far better than Gundam, that's for sure. I wasn't too fond of the Southern Cross segment of the story though.

Anyway, I expect it probably would end up being pretty bad, but I'd probably still see it.
