According to Weekly Shonen Sunday, the third season of Hayate no Gotoku! was announced to be aired this autumn. The production studio is Manglobe. The story of the new anime will be newly written by the manga author.

Wait, does that mean it's going to have it's own story and not follow the manga? Or will it be the manga with some changes? Cause I really want to see the whole Athena story (although I've already read it).

I'll never accept those things as Hayate, Hinagiku and Nagi.
Nagi looks way better than J.C.Staff's or SynergySP's designs, Hina is alright but I prefer her season 1's designs. But OMG Hayate...yeah he got the worst design IMO. His hair overtakes his entire body D:. I'd like to forget that movie even existed...no Wakamoto as the narrator? Bullshit.
Hopefully it will basically continue the story from where it stopped. The manga material is too good to be ignored. And the sneak peeks in the end of S2 are enough for us to be sure that at least the "EoTW" arc will be there (I won't say more than this).
If that's the case, just a little warning for everyone who is expecting too much: Be prepared. It will have a completely different feel from both season 1 or 2.
Finally. They already saying that season 3 is confirmed since the movie. I prefer JC Staff for richer color but the animation here is pretty good. I hope they show Ruka and A-Tan in the series. 52 episode series will be good.

The manga scan of what appears to be the storyboard has the appearance of Kayura and Chiharu so I hope they are not skipping ahead. No one knows for sure yet but its just stupid to skip the A-tan arc.
"Stupid" is an understatement ¬¬
It would be beyond the ridiculous. Unforgiveable.
The worst part of it is that this is an almost guaranteed bomb... Manglobe never makes anything that sells, people will bitch about the character designs and they refuse to animate one of, if not the, most popular arcs. And once it bombs, that might be it for animating this series.
Let's be realistic now. We are assuming things with too few information.
As a friend of mine said, japanese can easily be misunderstood if we don't know the right context of the words.
A little briefing:
The last episode of Season 2 corresponds to the chapter 148.
"The End of the World" arc is chapter 178 to 187
The "Golden Week" goes from chapter 211 to 266
In-between, we have many and many fillers, some even inside the arcs themselves.
So, basically we have from chapter 148 to 266 as a whole "big" arc..
If they really want to fit all of this into one season (what is I think they want to do), it would require MANY changes, that could even be considered a "new take" on the story. In this scenario, we would have a more condensed and no-fillers plot. This is just speculation of my part, but it's the only explanation that makes sense to me.
YES! Can't wait. Been reading the manga, but if it's an all new story then I'm excited for it. Either way! I hope it goes along with the manga material, in terms of character relationship developments. This is the news I've been waiting for. New it would happen, but when, I did not know.
Hinagiku... hmm. Yes, all is well. More Hamster and Ayumu would be nice, too. :) Any Nagi fans? None? C'mon. (I'm a big fan of Kugimiya Rie... but that's not why I like Nagi as a character.)
