Don't be a Pawn. Be an Actor. EP 8.

Plot: A new arc starts when the CC go to see a video screening. It's a murder mystery. It's also bad and incomplete. A Senpai named Irisu Fuyumi asks the CC to help figure out who the culprit is and finish the movie since the writer is unable to finish it. Oreki reluctantly agrees and thus the CC meet the amatuer detectives who might have some insight into the movie.

Character: Fuyumi Irisu. The moment she arrived, she was obvious to be an important character for this arc and maybe further. She has the calm and quiet personality similar to Oreki's but from Satoshi's notes on her, she is not only passive but a skilled manipulator. Her questioning of the CC group definitely felt like she was holding something back.

Aside: The beginning and End brought major questions. Who was texting on the chatroom? I don't think it was Chitanda at first due to the words "they might them dance for you". I initially thought it might be Satoshi due to his questions on how people are and he strangely seems intent on seeing Houtarou go through this.

ANd that last remark: why didn't she ask Eba? I can think of 2 people it could be referring to. Let's see how it unfolds.

Animation/sound: The movie was bad. Definitely had that amateur feel to it. Strangely enough there was no cartoonish animations this time.

4/5. A new arc. An interesting new face. And a murder mystery.

I go where I wanna go, even if its into Oppai.

Episode itself was ehm..something ._. While the movie just felt very...very...sloooow.. some ish halfboring tbh.. but i think that the next will be little more interesting by how it ended part 1 and what they showed for part 2.
cause MAL is doing there job for once.

Definitely the best episode in this series, finally something fun is happening! Great acting and filming in the movie, made me laugh a few times, reminded me of good ol' times when Haruhi's SOS-dan was making mahou shoujo film >w< Mystery might be even better!

I don't know what is scarier, the film or the girl in charge of showing them the film... to be honest I don't trust any of the people involved in the making of the film. The script writer fainting and being unable to continue the script ?? That is weird man. Compared to that, Oreki is very ordinary lol.

From a technical point of view, I loved how KyoAni made the student film look so amateur. I felt like they really captured the essence of indie films in general, where the stakes aren't high and you just want to make a movie with your friends and/or classmates.

The Tarot card part was a neat part. I definitely think Chitanda represents The Fool well. But Houtarou is Strength? Not so much. I think The Star works better.

I really want to know what kind of person this Hongou-san is. Seems like she's not really into the mystery genre but put a lot of effort into it, so I'll bet discovering the culprit will be a bit challenging for the Classics Club. This is good, though. Since the mystery of the anthologies was solved, I feel like the other mysteries were lackluster. Hopefully the next few episodes will be good!

Haven't still watched the next episode so I don't know, but.... isn't it weird that nobody asked the scriptwriter who the culprit is? She can't be THAT ill not to say a simple name, right? And even if there is a reason for this, wouldn't this be the very first thing Oreki would ask, pragmatic as he is? This bothered me the whole episode. Otherwise it was fun to watch, especially the bad-filmed, bad-acted movie.

I thought the new girl would act a bit more high and mighty, but she actually fits better to Oreki than Chitanda does. Bad acting in the movie was kinda awkward to watch, but it's a cool idea.

I really liked this episode for some reason. The acting was so bad it was funny and Fuyumi is really cool. I hope she'll appear again.

Quite boring episode if I'm honest. The established mystery just seems uninteresting to me.

On a side note, I liked how the film was portrayed, such as bad as any other amateur film made by 15/16 years old students would be.

That movie looked like something that I'd find on YouTube back in the mid 2000s when people were making videos on that site for fun. 🤣

A new character appears! Her name is Fuyumi Irisu. Can't front, she has pretty eyes. But then again, I always liked the way Kyoani does anime eyes

I'd hate to make a cliched statement like, the emphasis on murder mystery only in its classic British style as a logicial puzzle, locked rooms, and Knox's rules for detective stories is a reflection of a legalistic culture controlled by bureaucracy and rules

but I kinda suspect that

not bad episode, feels like theres some bigger force behind the curtains maybe but other then that the short movie was eh not bad.
lmao those 3 at the end, they all have their own weird feel to them i suppose. Lmao its probably gonna end with all of them giving some whacky idea while Houtarou just figures the entire thing out

Acting was awful.
Anime still has no direction other than Houtarou solving cases while 3 others praise him and being mostly useless.
Yes , production is great as expected from KyoAni , but story is not that interesting and that's also pretty characteristic of KyoAni's works.

The classics club gets to watch a movie together

Needless to say, this wouldn't be a Hyouka episode if Oreki isn't decrypting anything

The movie really speaks for itself that high schoolers made this and have a lot of improvement to come and what might be the outcome of this after the meeting of the detectives and Oreki.

I have a theory of who's the culprit in the movie it was probably that girl with black hair the reason is because the door in the murder scene was locked even though that guy died in that room there was also a key which means after the culprit killed the guy who died he probably locked the door after that and about the key it was most likely what the guy used to enter the room

And you're probably why i think it's the girl with black hair simple reason honestly it's because he was the one who found the master key and said we should leave it there so it would be easy to find when we need it or maybe he said it might gone missing something like that the girl probably already have planned that so he would kill that guy he might have some grudge on the guy

So yeah this is my theory though im sure my theory is incomplete or maybe wrong

we just need to see in the next episode

Also it was really fun thinking about this theory of mine

While anime can accomplish great cinematic feats, it's interesting seeing anime like Hyouka imitate the cinematic production quality of a low-budget independent film. The erratic focus, the shaky cam, the quick pans having realistic blurs, and the jittery zooms using 2D characters in a mix of 2D and 3D environments looked really good. I'm particularly impressed by the moments where the camera was following over the shoulder of characters walking around.

Hmm, interesting episode. That movie was quite an experience, lol. The acting was questionably good. Fuyumi is definitely the best looking girl, but I'm waiting to see Oreki outsmart her since Fukube talked about how everyone becomes her pawn. The culprit is most likely someone in that group, but it would be very interesting if it was the dead person itself. Just knowing those laws doesn't mean you can create a good mystery.
