I have very mixed feelings about Jun and Yurika finally getting together. While I’m glad they both found love, I think they threw away too much to get it. Yurika is dropping out of high school and it doesn’t look like Jun can support both of them. They are setting themselves of for a life of tragedy and regret and I just don’t see a happy ending with those two. I do sympathize with Yurika because she was stuck between a rock and a hard place, but at least she could have waited until she graduated to run away.

To be fair, Jun was trying to allow Yurika to live a "normal" life by leaving her behind. I suspect the final straw was hearing her parents talking about an arranged marriage just after her speech about being set free. Keeping in mind his radical/revolutionary opinions and his real love for Yurika, that was more than he could take. But yeah, not a lot of those relationships between student radicals in the sixties lasted for a long time--people just went through too many changes in the 60's and 70's. On the other hand making a bad decision out of love is not the worst mistake you can make in your life.

Loved the kitten named after Chet Baker, a great horn player and vocalist but by no means a good role model (as if many jazz musicians were). Naming the kitten after such a notorious druggie would also have been an act of rebellion.

Glad to see that Ri-chan has realized just what her feelings are. She'll definitely have to take the lead since Richie is so dense. Just don't end up years later having the bittersweet feelings expressed in the ED. And don't worry about Sen. A rock and roll drummer in a band during the sixties, he's going to have plenty of girls hanging around...
Please don't feed the trolls!

This show is bad for my heart Q u Q

I've always loved how this show handled phasing. It's so refreshing to see that
they're not dragging love triangles (pentagons?) through 2-3 episodes.

This episode is just full of feels <333

I agree about the difficulties they'll probably experience financially, but all things considered, I don't know that it was too big a sacrifice. I have to think that even a well bred, educated female in 1960's Japan didn't have many career options after high school except to become somebody's secretary and eventually marry into a wealthy family (hence her parents setting up an arrangement meeting.)

Either way, she's an artist so she's not going to make more money as an artist because she's got a diploma. At least this way she's free to pursue her art as she pleases. Let's hope he becomes an established writer and she a successful artist! :)

I just noticed that the scene with Yurika and Jun is so off once he gets on the train!! :))
With the train to the right of the platform, Jun enters while Yurika hides on our side of the pillar with her parents coming from behind her. Then Jun sees her through the window which should have been the door. So the doors were closed? Plus, Yurika is now leaning on the other side of the pillar, i.e. facing her parents!
The scene continuity is disturbing. They should have at least showed her switching sides or him walking to another compartment if that was the case. He runs out in the opposite direction too! :))) Ah! It's irking me! Lol!

I might be wrong because I was confused by this at first too, but I think he might have been watching her reflection on the other window on the opposite side of the train. The doors would have been closed on that side and it would explain how he could grab her and why she would look like she was backwards. She should have appeared smaller in a window's reflection though haha!

AH!! YES YES... THANK YOU!!
I see it again, and yes, you noted right! The bluish tone and the fact that Jun was facing the inside of the train and he didn't move at all. But yeah, the reflection SHOULD have been smaller, lol. But then again, to have impact, yes, it was good. :)
Lol, that setting could be confusing. Thanks for pointing out. :D

Jesus fucking christ. I loved how much Ri'ko spoke in this episode. I fucking love Kansai inflections. Ri'ko's voice combined with Kansai inflections induces ASMR in me, I swear it. Particularly in the scene with Kaoru in the park. I shivered.
The dialect in this one is Kyushu. But yeah, I like the way it sounds too.

Indeed <3 I fell in love with Sentarou's dialect at the first epi but in this Ri'ko was goood xD

Gotta say that even though the couple Jun/Yurika was a total random for me (meaning that yes, it was brighter than a day that something would happen but it seemed like the whole romance thing between started in like a day and they got to the kissing stage very fast. It didn't seem like a LOT of time had passed for their respective affection grow sooooo much so yeah, rly random), the train scene where she shed a tear and he grabbed her was a total win for me! It rly did feel emotional which must be a first for me for that couple!
Ri'ko winally made a move \o/ And that jamming/challenge session was rlyyy nice :D

Yurika and Jun look so happy together.
They're making beautiful couple.

So clever way to give him this present! I wondered how she'll give it to him.
Well, it isn't a jumper but gloves - easier to make. :3

GREAT EPISODE. I'm lovin it~

THAT music.
Nice episode, I think I'd have enjoyed it more if I wouldn't have read the manga beforehand, but they changed also some stuff (for the better this time).
Now I'm curious how the 'love triangle' will turn out... hopefully Sentarou won't be alone:/ (currently looks like Kaoru and Ritsuko might end up together..)

"I'll have you cut my hair". She's going to do much more than just cutting your hair Brother Jun! xD

The challenge/jamming session is one of the best thus far, along with "My Favorite Things". Had an eargasm. ^^

He probably figured that in a fight he'd lose, plus the whole point was to get his attention. For such a friendship a slap will do more than a punch.

THIS JUST GIVES ME SO MANY FEELS. ;A;

That train scene was beautiful. But, ugh! Why does Yurika have to be a high school student? I'm a killjoy so... priorities. *shot*

And that jamming session was awesome. I've missed the sound of the trumpet. ♥

My general opinion of this show was always ''too much melodrama, too little jazz''. BUT seeing the drama between Jun and Yurika I realized that this is the first time in 9 episodes that I actually care about anything. The scene at the end when he pulls her into the train was very emotional and well shot. Next up we'll be seeing some more boring shit involving Kaoru and Ritsu, not looking forward to it

I thought I was the only one!! For some reason I don't like the idea of Jun x Yurika although I do like Jun. However, I am looking forward to some Kaoru and Ritsuko progress hopefully next episode : )

Also, poor Sentaro, I hope he finds someone : (

Like what Ritsuko said, I'm glad that she finds out what's the feeling Sentarou feels towards her now rather than before or else she'll be heart-broken and might not even have the feelings to feel and love for Kaoru.

Almost every episode was amazing and awesome.

aaahh.. that was such a lovely scene, Jun x Yurika... I got tears on my eyes.. can wait for next epi, what will happen between Kaoru and Ritsuko

I don't mind Sen doesn't have anyone now, I feel like he'll be just fine until he find someone who really loves him :D

The only thing I don't like about Yurika is the fact that she knows Sentarou is attracted to her, evident by their almost-kiss in the basement.
Then she's like 'Oh he was bound to find out sooner or later'. Because she didn't make things clear, Sentarou had to find out that way.

Loved everything about this episode except the annoying fang kid. Can't be to far from the end now.

Cried manly tears at the end, completely lost it when Jun hears Yurika's parents yelling about the arranged marriage.

And you know, even if it was a stupid decision, and he can't support her, and she's still in high school, they still took a chance to get away from a future that Yurika certainly doesn't want.

I must be one of the few you felt the Yurika X Jun scene was very cheesy. I'm a fan of romance but couldn't help but roll my eyes with that one. ugh...*barf*

I'm still on the fence about Yurika. Even when she dug into the trash; I"m sure she had good intentions to help Ri-ko but I couldn't help but think that she's really "Trying" to be someone else. The current life she hates and props to her for trying to change it. I just felt that the intentions she put forth by helping dig through the trash with Ri-chan was not for Ri-ko's sake but to show Ri-ko and others that she's not some pretty girl with a nice upbringing.

I'm glad there's progress with Kaoru and Riko. The gloves were a smile to my face. :)

Great episode.
I'm kind of getting more and more depressed for Sentarou though. T_T
Looks like no romance for him in the show. It's Jun x Yurika and Ritsuko x Kaoru!

Fantastic episode though! It's great that Sentarou and Ritsuko were able to go through that conversation and just consider each other family rather then have an awkward moment. Shows that they really are close!

Oh my gooooooood.
That train scene ;w; I was srsly jumping in my sisters bed. I can't believe he actually took her with them.

This episode was so amazing, I'm reminded once again why I love anime & manga <3

and the gloves ;w; I just hope Sen isn't alone when the anime ends.

I wonder how much the anime covered the manga so far?

While it's cute that Jun and Yurika are probably gonna be together, i have my bets she's gonna be pregnant within the next couple of episodes.

I wonder what'll happen with Sentaro now that Keoru's probably getting together with Ritsuko? I hope he finds someone~

I thought this would be a silly show, but im loving it~ <3

Awww, one of the best romantic episodes I've seen in anime. I loved the part where Junichi pulled Yurika on board, didn't expect him to after that goodbye scene. I also wonder what Kaoru will do now that he found the present!

Finally, someone really DOES something! I was shocked when Jun pulled Yurika on the train, but also really happy! She needs the life the life he can give her, which is a life that is entirely her own, and he needs her because she drives him to move forward, not to wallow in self-pity.

I had my doubts about this show when it started, but this episode makes me happy that I stuck with it. =D
