I do try my hardest to workout and exercise. I really want to lose 20 or so pounds by the end of August. I need to work on it a lot more. For now I'm mostly focusing on running. My brother says he'll work out with me but normally he's too "busy" playing video games or sleeping to do anything. I will start bumming off of my friends' gym memberships because it's starting to get too hot to run when I actually want to which is normally in the middle of the day. I think everyone should exercise in some way. Running really clears my head. I normally just count my steps, or well number them. In kind of a "one..two..one...two" kind of way, if that makes sense. Maybe that means I'm insane. I don't know. I just like it.

I used to lift about 2 years ago, also ran. I'm trying to get back into it but once you become a couch potato it's hard to go back, gave away my bench a while ago and my treadmill's belt is a little too narrow, feels like I'm walking on the catwalk whenever i try to run on it. Guess I'll try to get into jogging around the neighborhood.

I like to play frisbee and basketball, as well as run. I find all three fun, but the extra health benefits are just another plus. I have a pretty bad diet, so it's probably a good thing.

I practice Muay Thai with a co-worker each day after work (I work graves, so it is usually in the morning) After a long day throwing freight I am usually a little tired, but nice and warmed up. Helps me blow off a little extra steam, and in turn sleep like a log. It is useful because it helps me avoid injuries from accidents (although not from sparring... :P)

Since my shins and wrists have been sufficiently conditioned (while watching movies I will repeatedly hit my legs with bats to harden the bone; otherwise my legs would pretty much shatter from some of the blows needed in Muay Thai), and I am very flexible, have developed my reflexes, and of course used to taking blows/falls; it allows me to avoid breaking bones or otherwise seriously injuring myself in certain situations.

Of course it also helps that you can pretty much kick anyone's ass if you are so inclined (which is uncommon) doing large amounts of damage, yet not doing anything excessive; most people I have fought, I have no desire to permanently maim them, so I forgo more 'efficient' techiques. Granted I would not want to face off with someone skilled in a practical martial art like Krav Maga (or anything which focuses on going after soft tissue; taking a blow to the solar plexus is a bitch, but getting your eyes gouged out is worse imo) or someone toting weapons/ loaded up on pcp. But against the unskilled fighter, or even more hilarious another run of the mill black belt in 'Karate' or 'Tae-kwon-do'; it works great.

I think working out in a gym is a waste of money. I played several sports in high school but stopped soon after. I picked up Tae Kwon Do a few years later which helped me get out into the world again. I became more flexible and it gives me goals to work towards. I started going to tournaments last year and was able to make a few friends.

I go to the gym almost everyday, hell I just came back home. I have also been going to a taekwondo dojo for about ten to eleven years, never got tired of kicking the fuck out of people. And since it's summer and I live in an small island, I get to go to the beach a lot so I swim and windsurf. I also play a little bit of badminton. Anything else... forget it. Especially team sports.

krav maga is as ineffective as run of the mill bb karate or tkd, you as a muay thai practitioner should know this. Karate/tkd/krav maga even standardised kungfu sure useful against people who cant fight but useless against fellow martial artists.

I do know there is a lot of bullshit in "street defense" martial arts to trick soccer moms into thinking they can fight and I've never met any Krav Maga practitioner, are they really as bad as a McDojo school? Also I think its unfair to call all Karate as run of the mill, while karate has a lot of McDojos some branches like the Kyokushinkai are very practical in their approach and have proven themselves in the pro ring even against Muay Thai although Muay Thai has a better track record of spewing out good fighters.

I ride my bike 5 miles a day (2.5 to and from work) mon-fri. I do this to stay in shape/healthy.

I also play basketball on tuesday nights for about 3 hours. I do this for the same reason and also because my love for the sport. Im very competitive to I get really into the games.

I think its important to stay healthy, especially since i want to get the most out of life. It also doesnt hurt to feel confident about my body when I approach a female :)

Krav Maga is useful in the fact that it does not take nearly as much training to reach base proficiency. If someone is actually skilled in it however it is quite effective; going far beyond simple disarms. The thing I particularly dislike about it is the way that it messes with peripherals, and goes in for a maim. The advantage that Krav Maga is that it does attacks that most martial arts don't particularly train for; and sure, any competent fighter will not necessarily get suckered by it without fail. Krav Maga does tend to get a bit overrated as of late (just like BJJ -- taking your opponent to the ground with you can be great in a one-on-one arena fight; not so good in a group fight) but there is no denying that someone who is "actually" proficient in it, can mess you up. I just personally prefer someone trying to land a powerful kick into my body over an eye gouge... personal preference I suppose.

As always it really comes down to the individual and not specifically which martial art they train in. I have little doubt that a 7th+ dan of Karate could mess me up; even if I in general scorn Karate. (mostly for their belt system)

I grew up playing soccer and did athletics until I was in my mid teens. Now I lift 5 times a week (on PHAT) and do cardio on off days during my cut (pre-summer). I plan on starting Judo in the new year when my money situation is a bit better so that will probably be twice a week on top of what I already do. Lifting is the most important thing in my life (equal to anime) so I eat clean, lift heavy, and try to maintain a healthy lifestyle (no drinking or smoking).

I play basketball, run around like a maniac, and practice kendo. And I swim, when the weather allows it.

Why do I do these things? Well, to quote a wise little alchemist:

"To train the mind one must first train the body."
- Edward Elric

I think that anyone who wants to learn something should exercise in-between doing so; like Darkraivids said above, it stimulates the blood and brain, assuring knowledge is gained so much faster.

The whole "30 minutes of exercise a day" thing is mainstream nonsense. It doesn't matter how long you exercise for. The important thing is getting your heart rate up high enough for X amount of time so it burns off excess calories that are above your maintenance calories (how many calories your body can burn off by itself each day).

if your maintenance is 2000 calories but you consume 2500 calories that day you will need to burn 500 calories to maintain weight. To do this you would need to do cardio exercise at a certain intensity (that gets your heart rate up to a certain point) for X amount of time. That can vary between 45 minutes to 90 minutes depending on age and body type.

My exercise used to be my P.E. Class but since I won't have P.E. Anymore, I was thinking of joining my schools soccer team but then I remembered that the classes that I choose for next year are almost AP(Advance Placement) which supply are collage/university leveled classes, and then I got honors math analysis which is another advance class and Mexican American studies which is my only regular class so I won't have enough time to practice so I decided to join a GYM on which I will work out 1 hour a day everyday.

Despite bordering on Thailand, my country haven't really produced much international MT fighters compared to Australia. Must be pretty awesome to train with the guy.

Also, I heard the gym got hit by some drunken lowlifes in the night not long ago. They shot up the place or something. Hope those bastards got caught.

I randomly decide to exercise as the days pass on. In high school, I played football and tennis while working out in the school weight room. I guess you could add those to my list of hobbies back then. Nowadays, I find it more and more difficult to juggle school with anything else. I do like to pick up a racket or jump into a pool/ocean whenever I can, though.
