I used to have facebook, and then one day I got my account deleted 'cause I felt like there was no point to it. The same applies to twitter. I registered for an account, played around on it for a bit and then deleted it. I don't care about anyone enough to want to follow them. I understand facebook and twitter's respective purposes, but it's nothing I personally need.

Quick select updates from people/groups you actually are interested in hearing what they have to say rather than scrolling through dozens of "baked a cake today", "its complicated" etc.

I use Twitter on my phone every morning to check the news and other updates, I have to admit it can be a very useful tool. However, I don't like how people seem to tweet about every little thing they do - the world will keep turning regardless of whether or not I've seen what you had for breakfast. I regard Facebook as a necessary evil, I would gladly close my account if it wasn't such a convenient way to keep in touch with people.

You could always use the "list" option to filter out tweets.

And twitter is fun. It's like stored up memories of nonsense and things you give a damn about.

I don't bother with it, nobody is important enough that I need to set up RSS feeds of their Twitter account or some shit. The pathetically small character count leads to nothing important ever being said, anyways. Just links to articles or pointless bullcrap about their daily lives.

There is really no point of it to me. It's just separated status updates with a 140 character limit. I already get enough useless spam on facebook, that I use to talk to like 5 people. Also, the practice of putting hashtags on facebook needs to stop. I want to break my computer every time some idiot posts '#crap #like #this #aren't i cool and funny I can use hashtags that don't do aynthing #on facebook'.

Twitter is much better than I initially thought. Now I use it daily and it is a great for to come in contact with people sharing the same interest (eg anime). You have to throw yourself into Twitter to take a liking to it.
I have my own anime blog. It's called Anime Viking. Hope you'll you read it!

This. If something I'm looking for is on Twitter, I'll be glad to go there, otherwise it's just something that's there. My mom and sister use it on a daily basis, but I could never understand it's appeal; whatever floats their boat I guess.

Never used Twitter but I guess it might be helpful to get the latest news about a person/show/etc. . Might be better than facebook, I'm still not interested in using it.
Facebook sucks btw, stopped using it months ago and I don't regret it. I rather use messengers such as ICQ or MSN to keep in contact with my friends.

I like Twitter. I use it to:
-follow deals from sites like Amazon
-Follow news headlines
-obtain support (more and more companies are using twitter to offer support, and sometimes it's quicker than going the official route. Also, I can b!tch about stuff and it's public by default, so these companies really pay attention)
-just shout stuff out.

To me, Twitter is not the same as Facebook. Facebook for me is for personal families and friends that I want to share personal stuff with. Twitter is where I share anything that can be public.

Useless for normal people with normal lives who have nothing special to announce or say.

So, I guess only for famous or somewhat famous people who have something to announce or say to the whole world.
Or his/her fans...

The thing with twitter is that it goes both ways. Yes, you can have real "journalism" with posts from real people on the scene. At the same time, people can made up posts, and you won't really know. It's dangerous to assume whatever being posted on twitter as factual news, which unfortunately more and more mainstream news media are doing, and they're too lazy to even do a bit of fact checking.

True, but look at a lot of recent news from the mainstream media. Many of them are talking about tweets as if they are already checked and confirmed. I mean if we cannot rely on the big news organizations to do their job, well, yeah....

I just had a "follow me and I follow you" type of account and didnt write anything at all but its funny when many people are following you and you are just going to write crap. Feels like somebody cares when you took a poop. Its kinda the same with facebook you write what you are doing, wasnt on twitter for months can you like stuff there too? <_<

Fuck Twitter, Twitter is a liar. Twitter promised me free food and shit at SXSW in Austin last year and didn't deliver! Fuck you, Grubly or GoGrubly or whatever the fuck. And then I get their spam for months! Is spam their promised food?

Twitter, Facebook... I hope this crap goes the way of CB radios and Napster and other idiot fads. Got a Smokey on the flip-side, buddy! Rubber duck, 10-4.

CB is still widely used to this day. Hell, my bus driver used it this morning. Taxi drivers use it, truckers, bus drivers, and the like.

As for me, I think Twitter is fine. I personally don't care for it, but I know people who love it, and they're content, and that's fine.

Actually, twitter is like a mini version of facebook. Twitter's main thing is doing the status posting saying what you're doing, which is one of the same main features of facebook. Twitter is just without the main focus on photos and such.
That sounds exactly like a mini version to me.
