Good ep. although i found it disrespectful when she went through the process of testing this other guy out......why is that even necessary when you already have a boyfriend idk, would she had left him if she found someone more compatible ? IDK but from her actions is sure looks that way

anyway im ranting, all in all the episode was funny and enjoyable

4/5 from me

She wasn't trying to be disrespectful it wasn't about testing that guy but more so testing their bond, she wanted to see if their relationship was truly unique and special by testing it on another guy.

I've decided how I'm going to approach this show. Take out the drool and it's really just about two kids developing a relationship with each other. The one apparently has some issues regarding physical contact that presumably the other will eventually help her work out, even if it does take a long time. They are both basically good kids, though they've got some odd habits. Then add back in the fantasy element - instead of, say, a vampire's bite forming the bond between them, assume there is something fantastical about her saliva.

So far, I'm not ready to say it is "good", just "interesting".

I don't see what is so weird in leaving someone if you find some other person more compatible to you. She even told him she was going to do it, so she didn't betray him at all. If he didn't like her behavior he should have said it clearly, or ended it there.

Now my main problem with this show is that all development so far is based on their "bond" (which I consider a supernatural element). I want to see their relationship develop because of other reasons as well... So far I agree with Cratex:

it's sooooooo weird
as this series combines moments that are totally cute and heartwarming
with those which are not so much (let's put here some synonyms of creepy, disgusting or unhygenic)
and for some reason it works

but for VA and character desing I really like it

Yes, agree with both. The only thing that ties the two together is their drool. It has a special meaning for both of them. Therefore, if she shares her drool with another guy it is pretty much cheating.

So by that logic, your girlfriend can go around kissing other guys because she is doing it to see how strong the bond is between the two of you and whether or not the sparks can be replicated with another person? Good intentions doesn't make an act okay by itself.

The thing is, they are in a relationship and not just dating. Saying you are going to cheat on someone and then cheating on them doesn't make it okay. You can't just leave a relationship because someone else is more compatible. Otherwise you are just using the guy until you find something better. That is very bad in my book. She should be the one to dump him if she is having doubts and wants to play the field.

Their first relationship's depiction is absolutely awesome. Girls always remain a mystery to us, even when we know them quite well (thus the MYSTERIOUS girlfriend) ;)

Back when I was reading the manga.

I got a bit pissed as well when Urabe did it with another guy. Anyway, it didn't work and I'm pretty sure she will reject him anyway even if it did work because she only just tried it out of curiosity if some other guy will respond to it.

Well, Urabe didn't try anything or something close to this after this scene so all is forgiven. Tsubaki on the otherhand however...

Yeah, but drool≠kiss (and kiss is more important for them). After all, sharing drool by itself is not important, only it is special by the fact that Urabe and Tsubaki react to their respective drool. For example, if Ogata would react to her drool, the most likely she would end with Tsubaki and rejects to Ogata, because their bond with Tsubaki would not be "unique and special"... and she would be very sad (when Tsubaki explain about the kiss, she blushes, perhaps indicating that she is enthusiastic with him)

Maybe she acts weird (I felt bad when I read this chapter, I recognize), but she want to be sincere with her boyfriend.

Relationships are different. That's why communication is essencial. So you know exactly what the other person is committed to do.

Urabe was sincere. That's one of her good traits for me.
Anyway, everyone has their own opinion of how relationships work. There is no point in discussing this further.

I recall being a bit upset, until I realized what she was doing was confirming for herself that tsubaki's bond with her is special, and not something that will happen with just anybody. She is new to this type of thing, and, though she has that mysterious voice telling her that Tsubaki will be "the first", and he reacted to her drool, she hadn't really shown much affection for him up to this point. Sure, she was happy when he asked her to be his girlfriend, but having another person ask her out, and finding that her connection with Tsubaki is special and unique seems to have pushed the two of them together a bit more. At least they are holding hands, and she initiated it!

About the part I put in spoilers.... DUDE! Bad form! Put spoilers around stuff like that!

To the haters that feel a need to not only put down the show, but suggest that people who like it are "clinically insane" and other such phrases:

If you have so little immagination that you cannot appreciate a supernatural love story because it is "too unrealistic" then I can't imagine how you enjoy any anime! Do you really have that little ability to suspend disbelief? Or are you unable to tell that it is a supernatural story, not a realistic one? This is no more far fetched than the "Girl in a world that has ended" part of Clannad, which is really the thing that brought Tomoya and Nagisa together

Was about to complain that they didn't show the holding hands part at the end of the test tube episode, but they (kinda) did that at the very end so I guess it's okay.

But somehow all of this is really awkward. I'm not sure whether the manga was like that in the beginning too and just got better (I don't remember it to be) or it's really just the anime...

I thought this was a great episode and we had some good progress on the relationship. First, Urabe gave Tsubaki another "drool dream experience" with the kiss/exhange of candy. Then when Tsubaki declined the offer of a real kiss the next day because he thought they should get to know more about each other, it was clear from her reaction that he made the perfect response. The second part of the episode had Urabe testing to see if they really did have a special bond with her experiment with Ogata. I don't know if it's phermones or other biochemicals--but it looks like they are a destined pair (I can already see the red string binding them together--oops, no, that was just Tsubaki's nosebleed...).

They've been following the manga pretty closely although they have been playing with the order of events a little bit. I've only read the beginning few chapters so I'll take your word that it gets even better as time goes on (although I think the beginning is pretty good). My recollection is that first love (or the first few loves) usually have quite a bit of awkwardness at the outset.

Lots of people still concentrating on the drool aspect rather than the feelings behind it. In the show it is a means of conveying feelings between one person to another. Great representation of the manga it was pretty much identical to be honest.

Thought this episode was the most interesting so far. Looking forward to the future episodes.

In case anyone is interested, I started a few threads on the MGX manga club page about the adaptation and which chapters go with which episode. (One speculative, another just documenting them as they finish, and another about the chapters suggested by the OP/ED.) Search for 'Mysterious Girlfriend X' in the clubs area to find it.

and lawl at all the people grossed out. Whenever you kiss someone saliva is exchanged. Whenever you share a drink with someone saliva is exchanged from the backwash.

It's weird. I totally understand all those who are grossed out of their minds by this series and yet I also understand the people who like it. And I'm not "in-between", I'm in both groups. It's pretty weird.

Then again, I think I'll drop it after all. I may pick up the manga instead (which I dropped some time ago for no other reason than "I need time in my life, let's keep it to my true favourites only"). The story is pretty nice, because I know it's more relationships/characters oriented... but the whole drool thing is much more disturbing when you see it "in motion" and even HEAR it! Seriously, Urabe, stop making those noises, I can't even!

The panty scissors attacks do suggest a touch of tsun, but there is a strong kuu tendency as well. (But she is only rarely warm to Tsubaki... making those moments all the more special.)
