I'm extremely disappointed that some people couldn't get past the violence and nudity. The nudity can't even be called fan service in my opinion. It all completely fit with what was going on and absolutely necessary to tell the story.

If you seriously think this anime was about violence and nudity, stick to watching Pokemon or something. This was a beautiful story from beginning to end. Easy 10/10. Easy.

I'm very disappointed, because this series in my opinion was average, nothing special. I thought that it would be a deep anime with strong and remarkable characters and after Iwatched first ep I had to change my imaginary opinion. But still I watched all episodes, because I hoped that maybe it develope in something good and impresive but nothing like that didn't happend. And about nuddity, nuddity can be beautiful art, but here, for me it was awful. Little girls always nude, yak, something out of pleace and not necessary. It could pleasure only young boys with high amount of testosteron.

the anime does follow the manga quite closest except for maybe the last 40 chapters or so... so 60% of the time you'll be "re-watching" the anime to a certain degree ^>^ hope that wouldn't discourage u

The point is to read the manga since the anime didn't follow it.

Disappointment.

I was expecting Akira and instead I got Shuffle. :/

It's especially frustrating because there were hints of an awesome story hidden away in some of the episodes, like that sciencefags plan of creating a master race, the claims that Lucy was the queen of some evolved form of humanity, that crazy bitch with the super vectors (what was with her anyway?), etc. I'm really disappointed that after all the hype this turned out to be nothing more than a sappy love story.

I have no problem that it turned out to be a love story. However, I think the story could have been handled better and I thought that it moved to fast. I think the show would have also been better without some of the other females besides Lucy though. I'm also not a big fan of the Nyu personality either.

So in other words you pretty much didn't like any of the main characters aside from Lucy, including her alter ego? @_@

Agreed that the love story was handled poorly. The male lead was totally faceless, and we're supposed to believe that he can overlook some chick murdering his entire family cause she rolled on the ground nekkid and said nyu a lot. Yeah honestly I don't see much foundation for that relationship.

If it were just a straight up harem anime I wouldn't be taking the time to criticize because harem is what it is, but since the creators took the trouble to burden this anime down with some intricate sci fi story and holocaust parallels (?), you have to judge it accordingly.

Yeah, that's basically what I'm saying. The cast was generally pretty horrible.

The anime could have been good if it wasn't trying to get deep, it simply fell flat on its face. If Elfen Lied was a real person, it would be the kid in class that tries to answer the question the teacher's asking and fucks up right in the middle of it.

I have no problem with meaningless violence in my anime. I actually love it. However, it's a giant pile of shit when it starts trying to give you morals because of it.

This show was pretty crazy, especially for being so brief.

I've gotta be honest, I love these 12-13 episode animes. They leave no room for filler, so when you find a good one, its REALLY Good. I'd call Elfen Lied a short masterpiece in its own right. The story was crazy and it progressed quickly. I really like the credit track "Lilium" btw.

Except it basically was filler since it ended before the manga.

I really enjoyed the series. Every episode kept me waiting for the next. It was too short but then again 26 episodes might have felt too long. I like how even though everything looks like it turns out sad you're left to believe maybe it hasn't.

This. The show had potential, the potential was not fully brought out. We ended up with a cast of very cliche characters and it was practically a sadistic harem after 5 episodes.

I feel the voice acting didn't help either, it sounds so unbelievable forced and fake, especially Nana (My favorite character, too), Kouta, Yuka, Nyu and Mayu. Basically I'm saying Lucy had the best voice acting going.

I didn't hate EL though, I just feel it would have been tons better if given to the right hands. It seems like the faults are all mistakes on the producers behalf (Such as the over-dramatic voice acting, forced storyline/plot twists). It has some seriously cool concept and themes going for it. Also, the soundtrack is brilliant even if Lilium is overplayed. A higher budget and longer run-time is all it needed.

The manga is one my favs though <3

EDIT: This was also like the first anime I watched excluding Pokemon and dbZ. If you asked me back then I would have said it was the best ever etc. (I think I gave it a 10 when I first joined MAL) but I guess opinions change as time passes and I just noticed more and more flaws. I have rewatched it a good 4-5 times and even own the complete collection. My giving it a 4 is simply where it stands amongst the other anime I've seen, but I would happily watch it again.

I enoyed this series for the most part. The gratuitous violence didn't put me off at all, however, I hate episode 8 (i could barely watch the bit with the puppy). Also, the excessive fanservice put me off of what was otherwise a great series.

P.S Yuka sucks.... a lot!

Great anime, liked everything of it, It has decent story, great characters, a bit fan service wasn't that bad either, the only thing I didn't liked was the ending, I wanted to see Is it Lucy behind those doors or not, that's why I gave 9 out of 10.

I'm kinda to anime/manga, so far I've seen like 7 seasonal episodes and all have like mystic endings or unhappy endings..hate it >.< Kinda soft when it comes to that..prefer 'cliche' happy endings T__T

However,

I do think (if it's not hope) that Lucy is behind that door at end of ep. 13. As Nyuu always tried to fix that clock, this is somehow a metafor that links directly to Lucy.

Read the manga, you get your conclusion (Imagine bittersweet elevated by lots). The manga is light years better than the anime. (Although I do love the anime for the animation and soundtrack. As simple as it is sometimes, it fits.)

i thought it was an amazing series. GREAT character development, emotionally involving, and very dark (yet humorous at times).

lack of fillers and good pacing were crucial as well.

the somber ending was depressing but expected and realistic. I thought it was brilliant how they did it, in addition to that "mysterious" figure by the door at the end.

9/10, just one of those series i will always remember. Especially ep 1 and how surprisingly violent, yet interesting it was. Really did hook me in right off the bat!

Not really great animation, not so great storyline, unnecessary violence most of the time , ohhh a nakid woman, awful and stupid characters, and the last thing, the only character I cried for was the puppy and maybe a little Lucy. Can't praise the show for that, I always get like that when I see animal cruelty. And...oh look she's naked again!

Manga's better, but not that great too. Oh but Lilium is one of the greatest themes of all-time! Thanks for that, but the rest, nah.

I liked everything except for the cousin thing. That is just gross.. I understand like 5th+ cousin but 1st cousin? Well I guess we don't know if they were first cousins.

The abuse scenes and things like that were different, they were put in a negative light. But the incest was just accepted.

Minus the cousin relationship 10/10
With it 7/10

I just pretended they were childhood friends and tried to ignore it as much as possible.

Its just my opinion you can be okay with it... But I will think you are gross ;)

Flawed, but still fantastic. I hate the cousin and Kouta's a bit flat, but the show does well at enough stuff that I still really enjoyed it. The lack of depthy characters and the fact that it doesn't really have anything meaningful to say like Trigun or Lain push it out of the masterpiece category and into the "Damn Good" category. 8/10.

Utter garbage. Trite, predictable, desperate, melodramatic, emotionally devoid, unnecessary, underwhelming, childish horse SHIT. No redeeming qualities. I'll never understand how anyone can find the story entertaining, let alone captivating or intriguing. Different strokes for different folks; but really, watch something that isn't trying so hard... Like Monster.

Elfen Lied is my favorite anime. It could have used a little more ecchi and gore but those aspects are pretty good, the only thing I didnt like about the show was that Lucy likes Kouta, that really bugs me (I'm sure you can all imagine why). I plan on rewatching the show soon because I love it so much.

To anybody that doesnt like this anime or other anime, why dont you try to enjoy an anime for what it is instead of base your opinion on the anime having a perfect and original story, perfect characters or other shit like that. If you still dont enjoy the anime, then I would respect that opinion.

I regretted watching this anime. I accidentally bought the dubbed instead of the subbed, and the dub VAs kind of sucked; the anime itself was rushed because of a mutiny between the anime and the manga dudes; and the echiness downplayed the brutality of this anime.

To be honest, I think I would have enjoyed this anime if I discovered it before the manga.
A small request: If there is a post of mine that you dislike, or want to discuss with me, please do so on my profile's comment page. I know it defeats the purpose of forums, but, I usually don't revisit forum threads after a post (unless it's my own) due to extreme laziness, and confusion. Another good anime, a good story, great characters, and lots of things to think about...The violence/nudity was pretty ignorable because of the anime itself...
I think it's good that it ended like this, it brings lots of open space to those who wanted it to continue...;)

At start, I find Elfen Lied extremely awsome even though I got mixed up with the ending. [Theres more too it anyways]

After I reading the Manga my point of view changed and I ended up Re-Watching it. I was annoyed/pissed off when I found out the last 2 episodes are just competely made up.

All I want is a re-make for it to get done right, Other then that, the anime is fairly good but no where as near good as the manga.
