How to change the background images
You can change the background images easily in my Angel Beats script!

Step 1:
Step 1 varies a little by browser but its still easy when you know what to do.

For Firefox Click the GreaseMonkey monkey head icon
http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/7393/angelbeatsffexx1.png

Right-click on the name of the script you want to change (you will probably be prompted to search for a program that opens the script, which will be a word document, preferably Wordpad).

For Chrome Click the Black Canvas icon
http://i.imgur.com/i3HvEp4.jpg

Go to this icon and click "edit". Now you'll be taken to a page where you can edit the script.

Step 2: Now, in the code search for

//CHANGE BACKGROUNDS HERE

Its very close to the top. Under there you'll see the background image urls for the different parts of the layout- there's the background of the banner, the main background, and the logo. You can switch the background links with another one you upload to a site like Imageshack. After you make the changed, then just Save the word document and from now on your script will have those changes.

Change the height of the header
If you want more space on the top of the page, so you can see more of the header, do Step 1 from the tip above, and then just scroll down in the code to

// Give space to banner and logo (adjustable)
if ( !document.location.href.match('info.php|hidenav|hideheader') ) {
addGlobalStyle('#headerSmall{ height:150px !important; }');
}

Now you can change the height here with the code in red and save it!

Set a script back to its default settings
Easy! Just reinstall the script from the links in the top post, I left two near the top for your convenience.

I didn't know about that add-on, it seems like it might be a little better than using GM especially for editing. I might redo the tutorial for that instead. Are there advantages/disadvantages to using it over GM?

Easy to make a custom theme (CSS + some properties to specify where it should be used and where it should not), plenty of premade designs on userstyles.org

So since what we do here is CSS then it may be better choice, and it will be easier to explain.

UPD: Opera UserJS feature — no extension of some kind needed.
There is UserCSS support in Opera, but unfortunately it will not allow you to restrict it to some specific pages on domain (like user lists). However, if you upload Stylish CSS to userstyles.org, it will be able to automatically convert stylesheet to userscript with those restrictions applied, if user chooses to download as UserJS.

I'm using this layout with one... two... three extensions in my FF, and it is quite cool. And this one is used in my Opera

Opera is fully customizable, you can specify in the page options what user style to use, or use a JS userscript with domain restriction and change everything...

This is why I love Opera, every page can have their own options, from userscripts, stylesheets, and also the browser identification, for mask Opera and tell the server that you are in FF or IE.

This is the way to add styles from GreaseMonkey or Stylish to Opera.

First of all, make a folder named Scripts(or whatever you want) for all the JS and CSS(I put it into Opera forlder).

then, some functions of GreaseMonkey Opera need an additional .js to perform these functions, and here is it.

afther that, go to Opera > Configuration > Options... > Advanced(1) > Content(2) > JavaScript Options...(3) > Select Folder(4)

Then, select the Scripts folder, and Accept all. Now Opera loads every script like GreaseMonkey, and works the same, with domain restriction.
NOTE: Unlike GreaseMonkey, to deactivate some script is necesary to delete it, or change the extension from .js to any other like .txt, this way Opera don't read it as JS.

Finally, select your preferred style from UserStyles.org or wherever you search styles for MAL. All of these have an option "Install as User JS", copy all the text and paste in Notepad, and save it in the Scripts folder with the ".user.js" ext, and thats all.

NOTE: in some themes, you have to change the lines for manga and anime lists 'cause the user JS loads after the page CSS and then the lists styles get overwritten. Only change from this:
// @include http://myanimelist.net/animelist/*
// @include http://myanimelist.net/mangalist/*
to this:
// @exclude http://myanimelist.net/animelist/*
// @exclude http://myanimelist.net/mangalist/*

and here is how I see myanimelist.net:

Not only updated the second post recently to tell you how to customize this, but also I moved the images over to Imageshack so there would be no more lag or chance or deleting. If Imageshack is blocked in your country there's a small chance you won't see the background images if you use the new versions of the scripts, but its a small chance and you can use the second post to customize the background anyhow!

Not likely as its no priority of mine atm to figure out and seems unlikely anyways- unless someone gives me a simple way to install scripts into IE's current version. Past programs like Trixie or IE7pro don't seem compatible with new version and haven't been updated in years anyways.. maybe there is or will be an add on for userscripts:

http://www.iegallery.com/Addons

but when I search 'userscript' nothing came up..

Script links here, see instructions below for how to install the scripts or customize them if you don't know how.
Angel Beats: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/129172
Horo/Miku: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/129167
the link to the horo/miko link doesnt work any more

This is how I see my main profile page:

I see that background when I visit any profile page, forum page, or even my personal messages! Only I can see it. Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to customize the profile page for others to see. But this is still really good for me! I do this by using a script installed into my browser, basically, a code in my browser to override codes on the website which alters what I view to my liking.

You can do it too, in only a couple minutes!
I'll show you how to easily customize your own view of MAL pages with your own custom background, logo, and banner. By default it will look like this and then you can add your own images after that! Remember this is only possible for your own personal view of MAL.

Step 1: Install the proper add-on/extension for your browser

Firefox users: You need to install this Firefox Add-on Greasemonkey. You will be prompted to restart your browser after: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/

Google Chrome users: You need to install this Chrome extension Black Canvas: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/pipnnjjknlabchljabhmnpdfpdobpnkk

Other browser users: I don't know how to install or use script support for other browsers as I never use them and they're often undeveloped compared to the main two above. Check the following posts for more info that may come to light over time!

Step Two: Install my Angel Beats script!
Now you can install my Angel Beats script to your browser, once its installed it should be good to go after you refresh a page on MAL! Go to its page here: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/129172

Note: It'll customize MAL profiles, forum pages, and your panel as in the example pic you saw above. Its also made to be easily edited (see next post). It won't affect anime or manga lists, so don't worry about it getting in the way of that! It won't affect any other websites either.

For Firefox users, click the green Install button shown below and install the script.

Once installed, go to MAL, refresh the page, and look at your newly customized site! It was that easy! Check the next post for instructions on customizing your MAL look for you!

For Chrome users, when you click the green install button it should say what it says in the example pic below circled. If not, refresh the page then it should (if it still doesn't after that, you probably didn't install the Black Canvas extension and need to if you want to edit your layout later). Install the script to Black Canvas.

Now that its installed, go back to MAL and refresh the page. Your Angel Beats layout should be installed!

You're done!! Check the next post for info on editing with backgrounds and such; links to other scripts are below in this post.

Extra info: Turning off scripts/installing other scripts
I'm not the only one who uses and makes scripts for this site! You can get a plethora of awesome looks for MAL from the link below! Maybe you can edit and upload yours too??

http://userscripts.org/scripts/search?q=myanimelist&submit=

They're not only scripts for the site's look! Play with them. To turn off, change between, or even combine scripts, do it this way:

In Firefox, find the Greasemonkey icon (smiling monkey head) and click the arrow beside it. You can turn on and off scripts by checking/unchecking them. You must be on the site the scripts affect to check/uncheck those scripts. Refresh the page to see the change.

In Chrome, find the Black Canvas icon and click it. Check and uncheck scripts here to turn them on/off. Refresh the page to see the change.

My personal MAL script featuring Miku and Horo
My own personal MAL script can be found and installed here, its made from my screen size a 1366px resolution and features Vocaloid Miku and Horo from Spice and Wolf. You saw it at the top of this post. Its simpler and cuts off most of the top.

http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/129167

Be sure to leave me ratings and comments on my scripts if you have an account there, or leave me a positive review so the script gets more attention and views!

Enjoy! Ask questions below!

If its not loading then they have too much traffic and it'll be hard to get through. Fortunately there are mirrors, sometimes even these don't load but if you refresh the page enough it'll appear. Same with downloading problems (try to download again till it works)

I think the MAL changes made an error in your layout

MAL might be recognizing your fonts URLs as images now, this is the fix below which I copied from my latest announcement, but I think your layout might need extensive repair? idk

Use this style of import for your CSS:
@import "YOUR LINK HERE";
not this:
@import url(YOUR LINK HERE);

Yeah, it's all the security junk that MAL forced into the lists. Looks like a bunch of stuff was broken when viewing the theme as a different user. I mean, I already knew this, but I kinda figured it was unfixable so got lazy about fixing it at first. Anyhow, I switched to the import hack since it's the easiest way to get everything working. No need for extensive repair, just had to reorder my code a bit so MAL stopped raping breaking it. I just hope the hack doesn't break now, I really don't want to tell people "update the theme again".

Sorry about that, I believe I've figured out the problem now and I've pushed an update. Overwriting your current versions of the base theme and dark mode code should fix the issue. If it doesn't fix it, I will see if there is anything else I can do.

I apologize, I wasn't clear enough. I actually meant for you to copy-paste the code from the links I provided instead of importing them. However, if you do wish to import them make sure you have both the quotes and the backslash. I notice you had changed the quotes but not added a backslash. Imports should be in this specific format, exactly, or they will not work.
@\import "url";

This is the exact code you would need:
@\import "https://valeriolyndon.github.io/MAL-Public-List-Designs/Clarity%20Theme/Theme%20-%20Compressed.css";

@\import "https://valeriolyndon.github.io/MAL-Public-List-Designs/Clarity%20Theme/Mod%20-%20Dark%20Mode%20Compressed.css";

This method is kind of tenuous as it may be removed by the MAL dev team at any moment though, so be aware of that.

If using that exact import format does not work, and inputting the raw code from the links does not work either, I'd greatly appreciate if you would let me know once again. :)

Sorry, but I I don't quite see the issue. From what I can tell tags are exactly the same cross-browser, but you haven't added any tags to the anime you're currently watching so none appear. If you scroll down on the page or go to your completed list, you should see the same entries have the same tags in both Chrome and Firefox. You can just barely see the top of them in the video you sent.

Am I misunderstanding? If so, please explain exactly what you are trying to do and what the issue is.

Also, if the problems are theme-specific and not general help advice, it might be better to keep the posts to the theme threads, in this case: https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1723114
