uhh no?

the final scene of Air is probably the most tragic thing I've ever seen, but that doesn't change the fact that it was still a really average adaptation

Mirai Nikki and Spice and Wolf both made me cry and I rated both as 10/10 so, to answer your question, yes.
READ: Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria 10/10 LN you will regret not reading it, any 10/10 you've given so far will be a 7 or an 8 after you finish reading it.

Doubt OP is still seeking answers. Been offline since 09-26-13 xD

Why revived this thread??

Personally would not give 10/10 only for making me cry once out of its entire runtime (unless it was a short like under 10 minutes or something). Should make me cry many times and then also depends on how hard is the cry.

And then there a different kinds of crying. Happy cry or sad cry, etc.

For some people there seems to be a "crying because it was so horrible". Inexperienced in that field... I doubt it actually happens! Who knows, it might happen but people's posts about it sound awfully sarcastic to me.

Only because it made me cry? No. It puts comedy anime or horror anime automaticaly with no 10.

Angel Beats made me cry like a little bitch, but it is still bad and could never receive a 10 from me.

Crying =/= masterpiece.

Crying is simply an expression of an emotion to one event. Even one of my most favorite anime made my cry (Mawaru Penguin Drum) and I couldn't give it a 10 because it had other parts besides that one time I cried.

Those parts count as well and made it not worthy of a 10.

Not based on that alone, Has to be overall good.
Crying does leave a larger and stronger impression though.
Especially if you can related to the scenario

crying means that it pulled the emotional string pretty well but i don't think just crying can make me give a series a 10.

I cried watching C3-bu. Although that was 100% to do with how utterly disappointed I was when the show hit rock bottom after a really promising start. I originally gave it a 1/10 but recently bumped it up to 3/10 since I did genuinely enjoy the early episodes.

A particular scene during the Edolas Arc in Fairy Tail made me cry as a result of how well executed it was as opposed to the case with C3-bu but as a whole I wouldn't give the show higher than an 8/10 or so.

Although now that I think about it the majority of my 10/10 anime did make me cry. Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero, Cardcaptor Sakura, Wolf Children, Cowboy Bebop, K-ON Season 2, Love Live Season 2 and probably a few more I'm forgetting but the fact that I cried while watching them is irrelavent to why I like them. Plus there are shows like Azumanga Daioh and Kino which I absolutely fell in love with but never cried once.

Any anime that gives me a very strong emotional feel after it ends deserves a ten.
That omits those anime's that contain shock value in order to make you feel emotional.
I've been here way too long...

it is not hard to make me cry so it does not really change much.
I almost cried at one point in Bleach ( I know, I know, soooo lame) but there's no way it's getting more because of that.

I cried numerous times when watching Nana and I marathoned it in two days. When I had to work on both of those days I could not concentrate at all, I was almost tearing up and people were asking if I was ok. I had to lie that I must have caught a cold and am sneezing a lot, haha. Nana deserved a 10 from me because it made me reflect on life and stuff a lot, at first I even had trouble sleeping.

Naruto made me cry a couple of times but now it's kind of gotten old for me. All these flashbacks and 'oh my god, I was so lonely but now I have friends' etc don't have any effect any more.

It's tempting to rate anime high that way, if certain series have a really emotional ending those moments will leave more of a long lasting impression compared to a 'regular' ending. No wonder stuff like Clannad is rated so high. Kind of narrowminded mindset... meh. I'm not gonna lie, I've rated that way a few times now... but in the case of Aria the Origination, it was totally justified.

If a series makes me cry, it did something right on an emotional level. At best the series can be labeled an emotional "masterpiece", but that's were the praise stops from me. I am convinced a mediocre series can make you cry if it catches you in the right mood with the right music and it shows off its anime tears. If I don't retain that feeling towards the series though for whatever reason, I'm not going to appreciate the series as a whole.
Signature is too edgy for me.

No but it does help it. Illiciting emotions is a good thing for most anime, it shows that you are attached to the characters or that they were able to make you care for them at least for that scene.

LOL!

OT: No, although it's really hard for me to cry but even if an anime does it, it certainly isn't enough to give it a 10.

I cry easily, but I don't hand 10s that easily, so probably not, but it is somewhere in the 8-10 range, definitely, unless they manage to really screw it up.

basically, theres a lot of anime where you need to read the manga to finish the story but HxH has most of it animated already so if you are that against manga that would be a weird choice to make an exception for

They're not the main focus in the "current" arc. It's more of a Kurapika-Leorio arc.

The problem is I can't cry of an anime :D Well ye anime can be sad for example. Aldnoah Zero ending, and many other anime, but it just doesn't let me cry it only makes my sad that we'll never see that character again. And no you can make a really bad anime but with a super sad ending or dead.

No I dont, I give 10's if i think it's good, even if one thing makes me cry the rest of it still needs to keep me entertained or it won't be a 10

Really? JoJo was so ridiculously over-the-top I couldn't see myself crying to that,

Only one anime has made me cry, and for good reason. I gave it a 10. Not because it made me cry, but because of WHY it made me cry.

If it made me cry twice perhaps. There have been anime that made me cry tears of joy and I gave some of those a ten..

Oh I forgot to mention also when I laugh so much I get teary eyed.

I would because I have never cried while watching anime before. That anime must be emotionally powerful to make me shed tears. Masterpiece-tier.

most of the time yes. In the first place if an anime can make me cry, it shows how good they handled the show, to the point where I have sympathy for the characters in the show, and the tragic situations that occur in it. Tears of happiness, to depressing ones.

No. It doesn't take much for me to tear up, so it'd be stupid to give all those shows a 10. Just because I cried doesn't necessarily mean that it was a masterpiece.

Some shows are so melodramatic in their writing that it will cause people to cry. For example, in Anohana! or Angel Beats!, while the endings could be considered "sad", it feels like they are forcing you to cry and some people will cry just because of that. They should be able to control your emotions much more naturally. Ex-Chrono Crusade's ending was so natural and not melodramatic at all but i shed a tear. That's because it felt real, despite being in a unreal setting. At times, Gintama's small stories make me shed tears as well and the setting is completely unreal there. The music, the characters, the dialogue, it all has to work and then, if tears show, that means it's good. Fuck, i wrote too much.

If it makes me cry then it managed to pull me into the story well and made me care about the characters. Some anime have tons of death and despair but the characters where introduced 2 episodes before they die which completely turns me off... looking at you Attack on Titan

I'm pretty sure I cried watching Pokemon when I was younger, and I don't think that deserves a ten. So no.
