Some fan service is good, but I dislike it when they overdo the fan service =P.

Small doses. I don't watch Ecchi anime often at all. But some anime that aren't necessarily "ecchi" incorporate fan service still and I can stand it in those instances. But I highly doubt I will ever watch an ecchi anime in its entirety. Usually after 1 or 2 episodes I crave much better anime lololol.

So overall, I can stand a little bit of fan service, but not a lot (as in Ecchi anime).

I like it. Fanservice can make a bad anime watchable, and if a good anime has fanservice then thats just icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned.

But of course there is a limit...

There is no such line. Every anime is different and what works for one won't necessarily work for another.

Depends what anime it is. I like ecchi, watch a lot of hentai, and read doujins. Don't really like the fan service in HotD though, o well. Thank god there's the walking dead.

Honestly, I used to like it when it had a fair amount of Ecchi not a whole show based on it (aka Seikon no Qwaser)

I think it would be better if stuff like that are just kept to Hentai and focus on making anime with an actual story instead of a lame ass anime with just ecchi thrown all over it.

But you see, most idiots nowadays count fan service as signifying what a good anime is!

I really do miss proper placement of ecchi in the show without that after taste that you would normally get after seeing a hentai title.
Some shows just use it as nothing more than a means to draw in horny individuals without the concern of whether said title actually has a plot, decent story, interesting characters or a combination of these.

The thing that irks me the most though is when the source of a show (manga/ light novel) actually had little to no service in it at all but then for some stupid reason the production studio decide to slap in disgusting amounts of unneeded fan service.

When was this? We had bare tits in Ranma, a piss drinking main character in Golden Boy(manga), and a hamsterphile in Ebichu. When did this great age in anime where ecchi was used properly take place?

Precisely. Sex sells. Welcome to...life.

First off there's a difference between ecchi and fan service right? Either way both are fine as long as they aren't shoved in my face (like in High school of the dead...) I even like fan service sometimes though as someone who is interested in guys i don't really see to much fan service that i care for. Now adays its all about boobs and panties.....what about half naked guys and bulges?? T_T

As for the naked guys, yes if they're manly and not boys bandish like in shojo or teenagish like in most ecchi. >.<

If its Tits, ass and panty shot fan service then I love that kind of fan service. What healthy straight red blooded male wouldn't like that stuff? I can understand that maybe a homosexual or a chick would be turned offor pissed off by that stuff. But that of fan service is aimed at healthy heterosexual males, not straight women or homosexual males. A healthy red blooded male whining about Titis, ass and panty shots in the show he is watching is like someone pissed off because they found a hundred dollar bill on the ground,it makes no sense.

I don't mind the other kinds of fan service.

I mostly find it annoying, especially panty shots and oversized boobs. With more regular proportioned ladies the fanservice is okay, and a tasteful sex scene is perfectly acceptable. Of course, if fanservice dissappeared tomorrow I wouldn't miss it.

I really feel like both of those shows didn't hide the fact that they were about boobs and panties. Sure, hotd had the whole zombie apocalypse but from the character designs I would think it was obvious that it was all about ecchi.

If it disrupts the storytelling or disturbs the overall flow, then no. I.e. no constant emphasis on certain woman body parts and/or focusing on a character focusing on said body parts.
Important parts of a story sandwiched between pantyshots and bare skin? Er...no. That does not work. Unless it's played for laughs and more or less part of the general atmosphere.

I've seen comments like "IDIOTS it's ecchi, it's supposed to be like that". While it is true that such things could be expected, I don't agree that it's fine, just because it's the genre. A genre alone does not justify for overloading something with fanservice.
In relation with DxD: It's the main reason I dropped it. Textbook example of "way too much".

That's not your call to make. The writer decides how much should be inserted and which is usually determined by what the target demographic is and genres used.

Important parts of a story sandwiched between pantyshots and bare skin? Er...no. That does not work.

If an important part of the story involves traveling through time via hot springs then bare skin works, bare skin is mandatory or if the story focuses around a sexual deviant that constantly thinks of ways to see women's underwear then pantyshots work then too.

Hard to get a boner when you see the girl sleeping on her own fucking tits.
You mean laying face down? I can think of a couple of boner giving things that could run through a man's mind with a woman in that position.

Don't feel like screenshooting but it was from the first episode and the blond chick had her head down on the desk napping except she wasnt really napping on the desk, more like on her own fucking huge ass tits.

but ya Big tits in general are a huge turn off for me ):

Oh look a girl with big tits has to account for where her tits will be depending on her position...duh. Just showing a girl with big tits isn't enough to get a boner from.

That's what she was doing. Good job at pointing out the obvious.
A. There's nothing inherently wrong with it.(if they are big enough it's totally possible)
B. It was done cause her chest is so big.
C. It is still an interesting sexual position to fantasize about.

C doesn't require you specifically to find it attractive or sexy as sexual preference and fantasy are the very definition of "different strokes for different folks". Which means since you admittedly don't like big tits that any showing of big tits would turn you off especially scenes that pander to people who DO like big tits. Reverse the situation by have DFCs would mean people who like big tits would not get turned on by scenes flaunting breasts that are just basically a pancake with a nipple on top.

I see no problem with fan service. Typically a show will have excess fan service if it's part of the show ( ie ecchi animes )

Fan service for regular anime is great though. Especially beach episodes that people seem to hate so much. It's great to change the mood in anime once in awhile with those kinds of eps.

That wasn't subtle, it was just fast.
Offputting is good. Knocking down social mores and forcing people to leave their comfort zone makes people a little less close-minded.

I like fanservice as long as:

1) It's not vulgar.
2) It doesn't allude to sex.
3) It's not exaggerated or excessive.

Unluckily, I think het fanservice is often vulgar and offsite. On the contrary, BL fanservice is, SOMETIMES, nice. For example, in Natsume Yuujincho I can support a yaoi couple thanks to quick fanservice scenes, but they are subtle so that a person who doesn't like yaoi probably would not even recognize it. That's the kind of fanservice I like.

" Long full shots of robots in mecha shows, sexual elements, long fight scenes or violence, all can be considered fan service as they are specifically aimed to please the fans of any given show. Christian McCrea feels that Gainax is particularly good at addressing otaku through fan service by adding many "meta-references" and by showing "violence and hyperphysical activity". Japanese baseball teams provide fan service events during baseball games such as dance shows, singing the team song or a performance by the team mascot.

The typical, but not only, variety of fan service in anime or manga is racy or sexual or erotic content, such as nudity, other forms of eye candy, for example, sexy maid costumes. Fan service is especially common in shonen manga (aimed at boys). In shonen manga, pin-up girl style images are common "in varying states of undress", often using an "accidental exposure" excuse to show a favourite female character, or an upskirt "glimpse of a character's panties". Series aimed at an older audience include more explicit fan service. Jiggling breasts, known as the "Gainax bounce", are an example of fan service, created as a way to make a scene of the Daicon IV opening video a bit more "H". The "bounce" was taken up by other animators, including the creators of the hentai series Cream Lemon. Shower scenes are very common in movies and in anime of the 1980s and 1990s, while many more recent TV series use trips to onsen (Japanese hot springs) or trips to tropical locales (or in some cases a swimming pool), in order to showcase the characters in bathing suits. Series aimed at males can also include fan service for women, as an attempt to court a wider audience.

Intertextual references are intended to be seen and understood by the fans, as a way for the creators of the show to acknowledge the fans, and as a way for more knowledgeable fans to impress others. Intertextual fan service is now being inserted into media aimed at younger children as well - this can be seen in Shrek's upside-down kiss scene, which is a reference to an upside-down kiss scene in Spider-Man. "

What's not to like. The definition of fan service is a service aimed at fans to increase their enjoyment. The only reason to not like fan service is to not be a fan or be watching something not aimed at you to begin with, like a guy not liking the fan service found in a series aimed at women.

If it's light or done for comedy purpose, it's completely fine.

For the likes of when fanservice overtakes a great concept and craps all over it, I'm looking at you HOTD. It ruins the enjoyment.. however on HOTD's part, it made it a undeliberate comedy. The shock waving and bullet dodging boobs put me into a fit of laughter.
