I don't think it has much to do with the characters. The results are caused by the show's popularity.
No matter how crappy Guilty Crown is, its popularity is at the top of this season.
Not just in Japan, look at how fast this tread goes compared to other shows and you will understand what I mean.
So the show sells, and its characters are known wider, and so they get more votes, that's all.
Being watched does not mean it's popular. It depends on whether people truly likes that show. Besides, opinion polls are generally conducted within a limited number of respondents. Just because they watch the show, does not mean they love it.
I don't think it loving it or not makes much difference in popular vote though. Because if a voter does not watch the show, he/she will not vote for it. So the show that gains more audiences gains more votes statistically.
And the voter most probably have watched way more shows than guilty crown. You do realise that the characters on the role represent merely some of the shows, right? There's probably way more characters in the actual poll, the one shown on the magazine is merely shows the top ten favored characters. There are waymore popular shows out there such as fairy tail, naruto, bleach and one piece who are definitely more logical and supported. Somehow, it just surprises me that none of the characters from these shows made it to the poll whilst someone like OUMA SHU , GAI and INORI YUZURIHA did. Moreover, if you dislike a show, you most probably won't vote for it. I just don't understand why people liked this show so much to the point where they would vote for it's poorly developed characters as favourites. Just a question, when was this poll ACTUALLY conducted? As some of us may know, this show was just bad apart from the first episode. And I would really want to know what is so good about Ouma Shu and Inori Yuzuriha. Can someone actually list the qualities of these two characters that sets them apart from other characters? IN terms of moeness, Inori loses to Mio, YUi and Saber--she's a kuudere sex doll. In terms of fighting prowess, she definitely loses to saber. For Ouma, he's a subpar commander compared to Lelouche--not once was he able to execute a 'just as planned' operation. Even Gai's plans often end up as ass-pulls rather then genuine 'just as plans'. In terms of fighting prowess, they most certainly lose to Rider and Gintoki. As for manliness, there's simply just no one who can beat Broskander on that poll. I just can't think of any reason why Ouma and Yuzuriha can beat the other characters on this poll.
Ah, I see your point there. Me too can't fathom why JUMP's mainstream characters don't get any high spot in popular votes given the shows' popularity. Maybe mainstream is outside the radar of voters? Maybe those voters are Moe-oriented otakus? I don't know. But anyway, I still think the show's popularity has major effect on character popular vote. Take someone who has no more than 24-minute screentime like Iwasawa as an example. Her performance in ISML must be resulted by the show's popularity.

And about people so liking it. I actually think people likes Guilty Crown because if they really hate it they will eventually drop it. I am one who think Guilty Crown is crappy but still like it, just like how I loved all garbage Infinite Stratos threw at me. I don't think character's characteristics mean much. People just love the characters because they love them.

Sad face, just sad face. Guilty Crown is the wrost anime of this season. The only good thing is epic fight scenes and music. Funny thing, Inori becoming a monster..it reminded me of Oh!Edo Rocket when the girls are like that lol.

After watching Code Geass R2 I didn't think there would be any anime produced that is more confusing and makes less sense than that.

Well... Guilty Crown just did it.
I don't get any of the plot anymore. I just watch it for the action now XD

Yeah, so like..how is shu not dead from blood loss? Inori turned super siayn, guessing thats her trueself, which represents the long sword that shu always be taking out of her chest.
I agree that gai seems to play a better role when he's playing the villain. Still, this anime is just..weird now. A lot of holes that aren't filed to answer questions.

There has been one week between airing those two episodes, quite obvious that he has received treatment during this time. Joking aside, most likely he has been treated by Inori in some way. (as during the episode you see a short fragment with them sitting beneath the bridge.)

However, more importantly is that Shu has control over Inori. I foresee this being an important factor in the final of this show.

OR, Newtypes fans will just vote for the main characters of a mecha anime?

Shu and Inori in top 10 of male and female of Newtype's current anime?

Wow I liked them both, but I didn't think they would get #1 in popularity.

Also, non Guilty Crown related, Kira Yamato is still in top 10 after ten years is that a record?

Since episode 14, we have been wondering where the Adults have been. Where they disappeared to. Finally they return and it's as Rape Gangs. Unfortunately for them, they attacked Inori, Mana took over and went she-beast on them.

Wonder, what happened to the students. After the opening events of the episode, they get a vague mention during the discuession with Arisa's Grandfather in the garden. We don't see GHQ actively taking them into custody or killing them. Gai doesn't give any intructions concerning them. He just leaves. I mean there was at least a couple hundred of them, many needing medical treatment. Yet there is all but no mention made concerning them. Maybe we'll learn their fate in the next episode.
Summoning Dark: "What kind of human creates his own policeman?"

Watcman: "One who fears the dark."

"And so he should," said the enity, with satisfaction.

"Indeed. But I think you misunderstand. I am not here to keep the darkness out. I'm here to keep it in." There was a clink of metal as the shadowy watchman lifted a dark lantern and opened it's little door. Orange light cut through the blackness. "Call me . . . the Guarding Dark. Imagine how strong I must be."

I don't think GHQ cares about the students at all. To White!Gai they are all pointless bothers, he killed three himself and most of the others were either killed or separated in the ensuing massacre.

Massacre?

What Massacre?

Did you see a Massacre?

I know I didn't. GHQ was following Gai's orders and he didn't give any concerning the Students. One way or the other. We saw the B2 attack and be destroyed, Scythe Girl attack Gai and turn to Crystal, Daryl protect Tsugumi and attack Gai, only be defeated by Endlave Firing squad, Arisa shielding Gai from the Explosion and then Gai leaving without giving any orders, about anything. He didn't even thank Arisa for protecting him. He just left.

My way way off bad, after re-watching that scene, the students ran for it once Daryl's bullets started ricocheting every direction during his fight.

He still didn't care enough to pursue though.

- Because this Gai is definitely NOT the Gai i liked from the beginning of this anime, I officially hate the current Gai.
- Daryl finally did what i wanted him to do for a long time now (Daryl x Tsugumi)
- Confirmed: Inori is NOT human
- Arisa should have been killed by Inori if you ask me. She killed her own grandfather!
- Is Kenji working for the enemy too 'cause i saw him for just a while there
- Shu became useless again /maybe he'll reunite with Inori in the end or smth/

Overall rating: 9/10 because of the current Gai and Arisa.

I don't remember Kenji ever being good tough, i think he was helping FP mostly due to the Enemy of my Enemy philosophy and because they freed him.

Either that or he was recaptured by CHQ on the airport mission, and got caught by: "jail or helping us?"

I agree Inori should've killed Arisa....Back when i thought she killed her in the control room i felt sorry for her......Now i just wished Inori would've sliced that bitch up like birthday cake. I have a feeling that she's going to outlive most of the people in the anime honestly, because they have already had two chances to kill her. I honestly can't see her being killed off, which sucks because she's sticking to Gai as if he's still the same person when he's obviously not.

She's pissed because she doesn't get treated fairly? Well she's acting like a bitch, so clearly she's a dog. As such she's being treated as one. No foul play here.

Found a translation of Episode 19's preview on Youtube...

"I need to recover my right arm in order to get Inori back but where can I find it? In all the chaos, Haruka escaped from Area 24 carrying the last Void Genome. That and Segai's surprise completely changed Funeral Parlor's members fates. Everyone, bear with me! I have decided to fight to the end and I will cut through this imperial reign! Next episode... Rebirth. I will undertake the Guilty Crown!"

After reading this translation, I really do think that Segai's going to give Shu that arm.
I really do hope that Segai switches sides. Well. Not like he was on a side in the first place. But you know. More Segai is always a good thing.

And, I thought this was hilarious.

He's "Death of Rats" aka 'The Grim Squeaker' from "The Hogfather" Mini-series. Based on the Novel of the same name. It is book number 20 of the Disc-World series by Terry Pratchett. He first appeared in the novel, Reaper Man (book #11).

As for Arisa, She may get killed off before the end, but it'll only be after her Grandfather's foreshadowing comes true. She'll realise that she means NOTHING to Gai and is tossed aside.

I'm not really sure, but I hope they join together to fight Gai (even though they betrayed Shu).
And it says that Haruka escaped with the last Void Genome which means that it may be the one used to make Shu's arm. I find myself doubting that Translation of the preview as well.

Giving Shu the 3rd Void Genome just starts the whole thing over again. Places him in the same danger that she betrayed him, to save him from. Just doesn't make sense. Haruka stealing it, to prevent Keido and Gai from using it, to complete their plans, does make sense. From What Haruka said in 18 and the preview, She may be thinking of sacrificing herself to stop Keido and Gai.

Now, I can see Segai giving Shu the 3rd Void Genome... But for what reason? His loyaties have never been that clear. But they do seem to lay with Keido.

And let's not forget, they don't know where Shu is. In order to give Shu the Void Genome, they have to find him first. While Gai and GHQ wanted to find Inori. They could care less about Shu. He's been stripped of his power and seriously injured. Even if he's still alive, he has no resources to bring against them. There is one reason they may want to find Shu... And that's because Mana demands it.

When Shu does eventually power up. I'm hoping to hear someone say: 'His Gemonic Resonance... It's over 9000!!!!'

So what now? the rest of FP is going to help Shu?

I'm not really sure, but I hope they join together to fight Gai (even though they betrayed Shu).
And it says that Haruka escaped with the last Void Genome which means that it may be the one used to make Shu's arm. I don't know how they're going to make Haruka redeem herself, but if she really does redeem herself by giving Shu a new arm, then she'd be completely contradicting what she said in this episode.

So much of the development of this series seemed so pointless... Eye-brows Void Genome guy, Ayase, Daryl, etc etc

Segai is turning to Shu? I am beginning to think he just does what is amusing to himself.

I agree. You can't really trust Guilty Crown previews though. They're so misleading sometimes. Segai is probably going to get his hands on the Void Genome from Haruka but how? I'm not exactly sure.

Another thing I'm curious about is Ayase in the preview. Where is she? Is it the old HQ for Funeral Parlor? It looks unusually nice there. And where could Arugo take them? Outside of the wall?

Ugh. I hate waiting for new Guilty Crown episodes. Feels like forever in between episodes, and the episodes go by so quickly.

The story is getting interesting, but is such a mess. Even trainwrecks can be entertaining. I keep hoping for better quality in the Storytelling. More even Storytelling. But in Vain.

I agree. This show is a trainwreck. A highly entertaining trainwreck. Better storytelling is probably something we'll never get in this show, but we'll have to deal with it. Look at the pretty moving pictures and listen to the glorious soundtrack and forget about all the stupid plot holes. And omg. The brass in the OST tracks are freaking glorious.

Back on-topic... I don't care what happens in the next 4 episodes as long as we get a satisfying ending and Daryl doesn't die. I think that one of this anime's main problems is its pacing. The first half was incredibly slow and the second half is just going by too fast, and there are time skips in between every episode. I think that they should just make this anime longer if they can't resolve everything within the next 4 episodes. Make an S2 if that's what it takes. I'll watch it anyways :P

And I hope Segai breaks Shibungi and Daryl out of jail. > w <

What did you make of Inori's little chat with Mana? We kow it's Mana attacking people, through Inori. But she sure played the "You're a danger to Shu card." very well.

Still, I wonder what Mana meant where she said that Inori needed to return to her?

Inori didn't have much of a personality to begin with, but we really see her grow, become more human in this episode. She has always been connected to Mana, how stong, how complete this conection isn't clear. It has definitely grown stronger since episode 12. Inori may be a part of Mana's conciousness, her persona, seperated from the whole.

What do you think?
Summoning Dark: "What kind of human creates his own policeman?"

Watcman: "One who fears the dark."

i don't understand, anyone who completed over 100 titles should not like this, sure, is interesting i mean i certainly find it interesting but is just not "good"

to give an example to what i mean, tell me, what is the over all objective exactly?

and as a side note i certainly like how Inori is becoming more human. Her going Mirajane style from Fairy Tail is the highlight of the second half of this show.

Again, Arisa's development fails. She relied on her grandpa at the beginning of this containment thingy and now she kills her grandpa. Worst of all she showed no emotion whatsoever. Nothing nada. I was excited she was about to get slain but no dice.

Shu and Inori making great developments character wise. Shu doesn't revert to his little sulky side but instead he's more determined. Inori's random transformation kicked ass. But still it was too random. We know from Mana's chat that she acknowledged herself as a monster but how did she just transform into a super sayan? Still, awesome.

Gai admits he's a monster in the end part, but now what's his goal? 22 episodes left, we need season 2. Either way he's still a badass.....literally. Even with his transformation, I don't think he's all bad. Maybe 90% Bad Gai and 10% Good Gai. I mean he didn't kill the members of FP on the spot after they run away from him when he asked them to make a choice. It's like Inori's situation. 70% Inori 30% Mana. Gai is in there somewhere.

Regarding the hand of shu, if my memory serves right Gai said that only 2/3 power of the kings are out there so that means shu can still find the last one and have an artificial hand created on the spot when he gets it...hopefully. it would make sense since this show defies a lot of logical things.

GC is getting better.

i dont understand why haruka would let shu get his arm cut off to get rid of his kings power to stop him receiving the "fate of kings" (which is most likely death) and then just give him the 3rd genome serum, that is just be too contradictory and stupid. unless she realizes her mistake and that gai must be stopped at all costs.

segai was always interested in shu, him helping shu get his power back is not surprising , he is probably doing this out of his own amusement, he just wants to see a battle between gai and shu because its interesting

im guessing that the remaining funeral parlor members are gonna be on shu's side on this, after seeing what gai is doing and has done, they now know that gai has become a total ass, and that shu is their only hope of stopping him

i wonder what happened to yahiro, he will probably also help shu
