As the title says. How do you choose your manga? Do you choose it by looking at the title first, the cover, the description or the genres, etc.

Let me re-write and enlighten the thread even more. This was in the past and now I am in the present, so I do have a new way I happen to choose my manga. First, I would look at the name, if the name does not sound correct to me, I may tend to skip it, if not I will continue onto the cover.

Some manga have terrible covers so after I take a glance at the cover, and then I read the description. If it happens to be something that peaks my interest, I will read it.

Mainly, if I do not have time to search or I am just not in a patient mood, it would go title, art, synopsis.

I go by genre and then description then the cover art. There are a few times where the description isn't enough so I just read that manga anyways.

Genres (I've been abusing all manga sites' advanced searches) and cover. I rarely choose by description and ratings. I don't even look at the title until I know whether it's interesting or not, lol.

Mangaka, imprint/publisher, and cover are fairly important. I also go genre fishing and sometimes look for specific "eras" like 80's/90's shoujo

I base my choices mainly on cover art, genre, and the categories field over at MU. I rarely read synopses, as I like going into a manga knowing as little or next to nothing about the story before I read it.

I'm into seinen/shonen , and psychological mangas so if the manga has these two then I would immediately read it. For the other part, if the plot suits my interest and maybe the art.

Based on mangaka, art(not always though), and sometimes I look at the popular rating to see if it is good or not and what it is about.

First I look for genre then art style, if I can live with it I check out the themes, synopsis, reviews and last I see how many chapters are out. If its updated regularly and has 10+ chapters I usually go for it.

Depends what catches my eyes first: the title or the art.
Then I just read the summary & if it interests me, I'll read it.
I never pay attention to the ratings, lol I forget they exist sometimes.
I don't base it on genre either because I want to be open to a lot of things that could be worth my time reading.

always genre! It has to have romance in it! I'll read just about anything with romance and of course if the description is interesting. I don't care much for ratings & reviews..everyone is going to have their opinion..I'll just have to read and decide for myself if it's worthy...

Well, I'm somewhat new to manga, so for now I choose by either genre or if an anime series stops but the story continues on in the manga.

i choose my manga based solely on four things. first is the synopsis, second is the art, third is genre and fourth is the title
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing?
Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God?

I often search for specific tags on bakaupdates. I know I like seinen psychological exploration types, such as survival manga, and I also know that I like seinen romance that lacks the neverending melodrama seen in shoujo titles (as well as including the penetration not seen in shoujo titles). That makes choosing pretty easy.

If only to avoid white-world backgrounds and nothing-ever-fucking-happening, I ignore ALL BUT THE TOP-TIER shoujo. I also ignore shounen titles that don't have any remarkable qualities... which means I ignore pretty much all of them. And with so little josei to read, that means my selection process is made so narrow it's easy to pick what I want.

I also sometimes see what else (other than what I'm reading) that manga translation groups are currently working on. If lucky, I might stumble on another title or two of interest.

Top priority for me is of anime I've watched so I can compare the two. Second is synopsis. I'll read any genre. I suppose art is a factor too. I don't mind art most of the time as long as I enjoy the storyline, but you can't go wrong with gorgeous art like Chobits has.

2-Genre

Usually I search by genre, but occasionally I'll just search through whatever list I am at. But either way, I judge what I will read by this:

1) Picture
The drawing style is really important to me. I'm rather picky about how the characters look. If I believe the manga will be really good, then I can bear through crappy illustration, but if I'm randomly picking and choosing, the picture/cover HAS to appeal to me.

Besides, I don't read Japanese, so I can't really go on a title.

2) Summary
Well, dude....How am I supposed to enjoy a manga if I don't even like the plot line?

3) Comedy is a big thing for me. I know that fits into genre, but I'm okay with almost any manga genre, as long as there is some sort of comedic relief in there. If a story is more drama-focused, and has little to zero humor, then it better be damn well intriguing to keep me interested.

The only time I'll really read reviews on a manga is if I'm uncertain about if I should go to the effort to try it. Other than that, I'm fine with deciding for my own. After all, everybody has different tastes, right?

If I like a series I usually check out other works by the same mangaka and I love to klick on the random button on some sites too^^

But there are also times where I choose some specific genres and search through large manga DBs.
