Ok, so two of my favorite anime series are Code Geass and Death Note. What I'm looking for is an anime series that's similar to them. I guess strategic is the best way to describe them, like how Light and Lelouch would come up with these insane virtually full proof plans to get what they were after. Does anybody know about that are similar to this? I asked answers.yahoo and 2/3 answers I got were Bleach.

One Outs
Full of strategies. Toua is even better than Light and Lulu in making them.

Lelouch and Light and strategies? HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

If you want to see real strategic battles with intelligent characters, then you must watch the finest animation produced called Legend of the Galactic Heroes

If you think a coward who uses pencils and papers to kill people is cool, then you need to upgrade your standards.

Obligatory seconding of LoGH. Code Geass and Death Note can both be considered LoGH for babies.

That aside, Kaiji and Fate/Zero are both appropriate suggestions. Because I'm feeling nice.

Hotel (manga) guides the reader through a robot's strategy to preserve humankind. Thirding LotGH - it's packed with fictional battle strategies. Though I found much the "strategizing" cheesy/plot-devicy, it's a fun watch and the characters are great.

Seconding Legend of the Galactic Heroes.
Most well done war anime.

Also, try out "Flag". It involves modern war tactics and a bit of mecha.

I'm sure it wasn't mentioned, so - Legend of the Galactic Heroes. It's FULL of good tacticians and strategists.
MyAnimeRecommendation

Mandalorian Space Marine in a Battletech Mech = overkill.

Hah, you're outta luck, OP. There they throw Bleach at you, here it's LoGH. Couldn't say which was worse.

Anyway, except for One Outs, there's also Akagi. And after One Outs, if you can stomach some light-hearted sports shounen, try Eyeshield 21, Hiruma is basically a younger Toua / Akagi.

These shows don't violate the 'show, don't tell', unlike a certain recommendation that a bunch of obnoxious fanboys above me repeated ad nauseam.

(And did you enjoy the guy saying Light was a cowardly murderer and then recommending a show about, you know, the worst kind of cowardly - generals sitting comfortably in their ships while people die for 'the cause'. And there they die in millions or even billions [expertly visualized by colorful dots on a black background...sometimes the colors even move] and then it's considered a great victory. It's all very moral, you understand. And how greatly strategic - the masterful "oh, look at how my opponent is smart!" counterpointed with "what a brilliant mind he is!", with the background choir chanting "y u so genius" on both sides. LoGH is Code Geass for middle-aged housewives - a soap opera with all its sensibilities. I've said it before - these people should just go rewatch Santa Barbara.)

Try Higashi no Eden.

Then step into Durarara! full of tactician, humor and mistery.

And if you like murder mistery and shogi tournaments, try Shion no Ou.

I also recommend it.

--Yes it does and it sets the standard when it comes to strategy. Not only are the two primary genius protagonists pitted against each other, they have to out think everyone around them. Even some secondary characters are having to manipulate things for the sake of their own survival and/or ideals. If Death Note is "chess", LotGH is "3D Chess."

sword art online
full metal alchemist

not all are purely strategy, but there's different levels of strategies involved.
