grave of the fireflies seems to hold a record here. I watched it right after a depressing physics final too, thinking it was a happy-ending movie. yeeaah.. not such a great idea.

saikano actually has a warning for clinically depressed people not to continue watching it, so that has to say something about the anime. I've never watched/read it tho, for fear of becoming too depressed >.>;

I found Air somewhat sad, the whole plot evolves around sad stuff.
After Air, the ending of Cowboy Bebop made me feel empty, really empty. Never think I ever have been closer to cry over an anime ending.

Just watched the end of Chrno Crusade and hell I shed tears over it... my mom entered the room and then i was like "oh damn i've gotten sleep(lights turned off) , gotta go to the bath wash my face" xD

I've forgotten to mention the end of the FMA Movie, quite sad... poor Winry T_T
And also the episodes that involved that child-chimera thing =(

Kanon 2006. Started thinking it was a cross between Elfen Lied and Melancholy of Haruhi (memory loss and comedy aspects). Found it great, funny but 17 eps in now my previous smile is all but lost and everything i see now is just getting sadder and more depressive.

ultimate killer combo, after I've seen those series in this order I did just wanted to die in an accident...

School Days never gave me the pit in my stomach that KGNE did. Though it's definitely not over...

I'd call it far more frustrating than depressing. But then again, it could be really depressing if you look at it in another way... Which I didn't, so for me personally it's not even on the list D:

And the latter because they're finished... whenever I finish any fictional entertainment - books, movies, anime, games - it's always depressing that the story doesn't continue any further. Like the entire fantasy world and all the characters in it just died, you know? It makes me want to start it over again for the first time, but that's not really possible.

i agree when it ends its like it just dies and will never be seen again
also cowboy bebop was sad when spike died he was so cool
also elfin lied i wish it was longer

School Days depressing? IMO, School Days was unintentially hilarious, especially after ep. 11. The characters' choices/decisions were just so ridiculous and stupid at times, I couldn't take it seriously.

Anyway, I've officially cried more times in Kanon 2006 than any other anime (which was more than a third of the series, or about 10 episode). And that's saying a lot because I cry very easily when it comes to sad/depressing works of fiction.

Air is also incredibly depressing even though I'm still watching that.

My math homework...
Wait, I'm hallucinating, that's not anime...

It's still depressing xD

I think I've already posted my feelings about KGNE and it's brilliance. So I would like to highlight post a substantially longer post which delves into the depth of such feelings:

I don't think I posted about how depressing 5 Centimeters per Second was, excellent anime. I like anime that can make me feel sad for some reason... whether it's induced by happiness (Planetes, Welcome to the NHK) or by sadness (Serial Experiments Lain, Mai Hime to a slight extent, KGNE) or both (I''s Pure, REC)
It can be argued that KGNE is sort of for both xD
But as I previously stated (might have been in another thread come to think of it...)
KGNE is definately above them all. It's also the only one that has actually made me cry.
(I cried on the inside for REC, I''s Pure, Fruits Basket and 5 Centimeters per Second xD)
In fact I think I'll even scale the sorrow generated by these shows, just to annoy those that dare read my posts:

KGNE - 10/10
I''s Pure - 8.5/10
REC - 8/10
5 Centimeters per Second - 8/10
Fruits Basket - 7.5/10
Welcome to the NHK - 7/10
Elfen Lied - 7/10
Planetes - 6.5/10
Mai Hime - 5.5/10

I'm probably missing some there, but no I'm not missing Kanon or Air, they just didn't sadden me for some unknown reason (There was a slight slight amount at the end of Kanon, when I look at

As previously implied, the feeling of 'sorrow' I speak of can be instilled by both happiness and sadness.

For the record, that's what I think about how I felt about the series aforementioned.

Then I fear what will become of this world if girls are stupid enough to throw themselves on a single guy who's as worthless as trash.

Air TV is really depressing... especially the ending. It left such an empty feeling. ;_;

I didn't say all of it was. It's just not a fairy tale romance type of anime, where everything works out well in the end. it's a pretty typical life situation. A guy tries to hook up with lots of girls, cheats, lies and everyone's getting hurt in the process.

I cried at a few anime, but I think I cried the most while watching the last episodes of Air. My tears just didn't stop, I couldn't even see the subs T_T

But the most depressing one was Serial Experiments Lain. I'm a really posotive person but just had to shout out the world for 2 days after that ^^'

If you cried you were emotionally moved...

Same with laughing, the feeling of excitement. They're emotions put into motion by something. Therefore they count xD

Saikano is easily the most depressing work of fiction I've ever seen on ANY medium (books, live-action, anime, etc.). I won't lie, I cried my eyes out at the end of that series. Also about halfway through Kanon (2006) I cried as well. There are a few others that have touched me like that, but those are by far the most memorable.

accela -> I may just be spacing out right now, but what's GL?
