I'll have to jump on the bandwagon and say Air and Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, and of course Gurren-Lagann. Though the first two were more "omfg, so sad T_T" and the latter is "That was so epicly sad and awesome at the same time" pretty much every episode.

Edit: on a side note I actually liked the ending for the Air movie better, because I actually understood what happened.

i rarely post on forums. how ever i find it hard to believe that no one has seen or thought that Now and Then, Here and There was depressing. definitely one of the the darkest, most depressing animes i have ever seen. the anime deals with genocide, brutal torture, child armies, and child rape. although its not graphic or explicit the camera pans off but you know whats going on. very very sad

For me...
Air
5 centimetres per second
NHK ni Youkoso!

I think NHK ni Youkoso! made me depressed for the longest time (1 week)
It had some scenes which reminded me of when I was little and made me realise how much I miss Hong Kong.

I usually go Hong Kong once every 3 years and visit most of my relatives...
but in the UK.. I'm not allowed / can't visit relatives... which is rather sad.

But I'm glad that I'm going back to Hong Kong this year! :D

I didn't watch it at home, I watched it with my cousin and unless I'm mistaken, she cried a little too. She usually doesn't cry when she watches things.

I think I also cried a little when I watched End of Evangelion...

Air, especially the movie. The last episode of Ojamajo Doremi Na-i-sho was also really sad, especially since it hit me personally.

Air was really depressing. Too depressing for me to finish. But aside from that FMA had some sad parts and all of Samurai X was pretty depressing. But even so they were really good.

Of the more recent anime I have watched, Claymore made me very, very sad. Or, at least, the last episodes did -____-
Damned unoriginal custom ending.

I must say Elfen Lied had the saddest ending ever even thought they left it open.
And Evangelion wasnt sad but VERY depressing to me.
Althought Air was sad, it never really affected my mood.

Infinite Ryvius was depressing but not the ending,in between you would feel for the characters.I felt sad towards the end of Honey and Clover 2,the ending was touching.
NGE was depressing also and Beyond the Clouds movie was quite heart wrenching though not depressing, same can be said for Voices of the Distant Star ova.

Last episode of Alien 9 was very depressing for me. The girls (main characters) just kept crying all the time. Also, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien was so sad that I dropped it after 2 episodes.

Air seriously left me feeling empty for about a week after I finished it. -.-

Kanon 2006!!!! Up to the last episode that is! ^_^

Elfen Lied is also up there.

And School Days most definitely had a depressing ending...

Argh, I can't wait for my new hard drive to come in so I can start watching all of the anime on my plan to watch list. >.<

Air has got to be the saddest I've ever seen.

Honey and Clover was sad in the end - but maybe that was because I didn't want it to end...

Hmmmm... Air 12 or Full Moon wo Sagashite 42... both I had the thoughtlessness to watch in public and gain many many stares from passerbys when I broke down crying.

It made me roll my eyes. I guess that makes me non-human since it made everyone else bawl their eyes out.
