I really don't like long animes that looks like they don't come to an end like One Piece or Naruto.

I prefer medium animes like Fullmetal Alchemist that comes to an end when is supposed to.

I don't dislike short animes like Hellsing or Elfen Lied, but I actually think that Elfen should have followed the manga and have a few more episodes.

What is your opinion? What do you prefer?

It depends a lot on the anime. Long ones tend to have fillers that seem to never end. Another disadvantage would be that with many episodes, the anime can loose track of the story or character development and that's a pain for me as a viewer.

Short. Unless it's incredible, then medium. If they need more than 24 episodes, chances are that multiple seasons would work better.

I don't mind the length as long as it doesn't drag and only gets good on the last couple episodes.

It really depends on how much screentime works for the concerning anime. However, when a series has many episodes I tend to get bored really quickly. Also, there are some 12 episodes series with really rushed endings and there are series with 12 episodes that do just fine. Heck, there are even amazing anime with a duration of merely 10 minutes. It really depends, but overall I guess I enjoy 'short' anime the most.

I'm with this guy, 100+ episode anime, no matter how good, I rarely finish x.x
Even epic anime should be 24 episodes + second season if its needed, if not, short 12 ish episodes are always good.

(for good animes) the longer the better. The fillers are simple to ignore, and ending is pretty small aspect compared to the rest of the anime.

Being "too long" and having a show drag on is simply based on how the show is structured.

Personally I thought Death Note took WAY too long to accomplish what it did.

I thought Eureka Seven could use a few more episodes, and GTO should have another 43. But I found 37 episodes of Death Note to be a drag. Sometimes 13 episodes drags on.

TL;DR: It's all good as long as it's paced perfectly.

I used to love longer animes. This is most likely because I was accustomed to watching Dragonball Z at 6:30 everyday. Also, I used to love Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon as well as Naruto and Bleach.

But then I found out about "good anime". Anime didn't necessarily have to be 200+ episodes to be "good". So I took up a couple of recs my friend gave me: Death Note and Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

Those were "medium" length and so for a while i tended to enjoy those types, avoiding thirteen episode anime like the plague. The reason for this was simply because whenever a good story ends, I am left with this empty feeling and a desire for more of that particular show. But I finally watched Baccano! and AnoHana and I loved them just as much, if not more, than Death Note and Code Geass.

So, finally at where I am right now, I tend to actually favor shorter to medium type anime, because a 100+ anime simply is too intimidating for me at the moment (since I'm so busy with college).

TL;DR - Basically started with longer anime and worked my way *reluctantly* down to shorter anime and now I won't watch longer anime (like One Piece) simply because I am either too busy or it's just too big of a task.

I dunno, maybe it's cause when I see a 100+ (or even 80+) episode anime, I feel like in the time that I spent watching that amount of episodes for ONE show, I probably could have watched 4-5 other "short" yet amazing anime.

I agree with you...My childhood was based on long animes like Pokemon and DragonBall, but now I actually prefer the medium ones.

One long Anime that I want to watch is Gintama.

I also agree that it depends on the number of filler episodes, but it is true that you can just skip it...

I think that the thing that annoys me more is not the fact that the anime has +100 episodes, but all the talking about them as they are the best anime in the world.

I think that was why I stopped Naruto, the story is not so good as people say, I just got bored with all the spoilers and talking that my brother and friends made.

I've watched more short series than I have other types, but I don't mind as long as the anime itself is good. (My 4 10s have 74, 37, 24, 13 (3rd season) episodes respectively, so no real preference)

I also wouldn't necessarily agree with the 'longer=multiple seasons" viewpoint, I think it depends on the genre. Comedy/slice of life? Sure. Otherwise, I'm not so sure.

I prefer medium, but it doesn't really matter, like if an anime with only 12 episodes won't stop me from watching it. As for long ones, I can take it up to 100 or so episodes, nothing more. But of course there are also exceptions.

Things that have low plot and are funny can be longer Hayate, gintama or whatever. Anime with deep story shouldn't be too long, tho few are good like monster or LOtGH. but honestly I haven't watched LOtGH cause it seems so damn long. normally 52 episodes for all season should be the max.

I think it depends on each anime cuz their plots are all different. But I like medium ones like around 23 episodes prob. An anime should know when to stop >< If its too short Ill prob want more, but if its too long i would prob stop watching it.

The funny thing is, I find that I'm too 'lazy' to watch an Anime if its more than 25 episodes, if not more than 12~. But in the end, I always complain that there should be another season/it should of been longer after finishing a 12~ episode series. ^^
Although, in my opinion, I find that short Animes are the ones that carry the most charm.

Honestly, I don't care about how long an anime is. If it looks good, I'll watch it. The only thing that the length of an anime determines for me is when I'll watch it.

It all depends on the anime. There are some good long ones [Ex: Yu Yu Hakusho], and shorter ones are easier to finish (as in, I'm a lazy person), but I mostly prefer medium ones that are just really good overall, thus are enjoyable to the end and aren't rushed or cut off at the end because of its length [Ex: Fullmetal Alchemist].

That depends. I think that anything above 50 is long, so I personally dislike long animes. I get bored of watching the same setting, characters and story for too long. I guess that's because my first animes were ridiculously long ones, like 200+.
But up to 50 is just fine ^^.

What I really don't like are the animes that don't seem to have an ending...although I admit that I used to watch Bleach and Naruto lol D: yes, the plot of these long animes are interesting but as time pass by, the excitement for the next episode/arc seem to die down and makes me wish that it will effing end already D:

It really doesn't matter to me if it's medium, a bit long, or a short anime as long as it has good plot and doesn't seem rushed or dragged on D:

Length isn't really a problem for me, but my standards for watching long anime is higher in comparison to short-medium anime (since if I'm going to watch it for the long haul, I have to make sure that it maintains a consistent quality, not mediocre or crap). Examples of long anime that I've watched which I consider quality (imo) are Monster, LoGH, One Piece and Gintama, all of which I've rated a 10 and three of which are in my favorites list.

Depends on which genre im watching

when im watching a adventure anime, i tend to like watching long anime shows because its plain entertainment

when im watching a war anime, i like to watching medium anime shows mostly because you can see a character develop a medium length anime. if there is too much time, then it's mostly fillers and if its too short, you dont see any character development and it is mostly explosions and screaming.

when im watching a love/slice of life anime, i really like short anime shows because they end when they're supposed to any they dont drag on. also because they get to the point better than other shows which last longer. when the message is straightfoward you understand much more

this is just my opinion

For anything with drama and/or romance, I feel 20-40 is a good episode range. The case being that time is needed for the characters to develop and for the audience to get to know and care for the characters.

I like all of them really. I usually am watching long ones and medium ones and short ones at the same time. I love me a long shonen show. I love One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, and Fairy Tail. But I also loved Occult Academy very much which was 13 episodes. So, yeah, I'm good all around. I just love anime. I suppose that a love story would get old if it were too long, but those don't seem to be the ones that get long runs.

I prefer short (up to 13 episode) and medium (up to 26 episodes) over much longer anime, since longer ones tend to drag and drag, and shorter anime tend to have better stories... However, I do have some exceptions for long anime (InuYasha, Bleach, Shugo Chara, Naruto, though I stopped Shippuden...).

Depends on the kind of anime. If it's nothing other than a slice of life + drama (with no fantasy or the like,) and it's 26+ episodes, no, I would never do it.

Action + shounen has a trend of running longer, and it's say, 13 episodes, then of course it'd probably be a fail. I learned my lesson from Sacred Seven, and watching Brave 10 right now, hopefully it'll get a second season, but I highly doubt it . . .

Medium is the best in my opinion..

Short doesn't really give it enough time to set up the whole plot and story etc etc... Then leads to a ton of plot-holes! Not to mention sometimes if it's to short you'll be begging for more and feel unsatisfied..

Long animes feel like they drag on after awhile, tend to have a bunch of fillers because they need time to develop the story, then end up being a challenge for the viewer because their are literally hundreds of hundreds of episodes to watch and it would feel to time consuming.(Example: Big 3)

Medium however I feel is the best. Theirs enough episodes to build a good plot and story, the show is not quite rushed but it doesn't drag on either and it wouldn't feel like the show was over in just a second and it wouldn't feel like you were spending your whole life just to watch a super long anime..
Instead everything is pretty well-balanced and it goes from beginning to climax to conclusion at a good pace
Touch me, you filthy casual~

I tend to like short/medium one's. In general I think the longer an anime goes, the more likely it is to suffer degredation in quality. Not always the case, but it's my take on it. That being said though there are some times I've watched some 13 episode anime's and afterwards sat and thought "damn I really wish that had been longer".
