I'm a sucker for shoujo and enjoy reverse harem, but I wonder if this series is really worth my time.

If you enjoy reverse harem, this is one of the most enjoyable ones I've seen. I ended up liking it vastly more than I expected, and honestly feel like harem shows aimed at guys could learn quite a lot from it about how to be more entertaining. Production values were also good, and seiyuu were fantastic. I don't watch all that many shows with overwhelmingly male casts, but this is definitely one of the good ones.

Thanks. It's no biggie to me if the cast is all male as long as I like the characters. But yeah, while I enjoy some harems like Tenchi and Shuffle, I notice that reverse harems have a different approach so I get what you're saying (like my favs Fushigi Yuugi and Ouran). But both genres have ONE fact in common that no one can argue: Harems have hot, cute girls for male viewers (me as a sucker LOL) whereas R-harems have the handsome types--sometimes bishounens--for female viewers. And on a side note, both harem styles may have their share of tsunderes LOL. XD

I don't care if the protagoinist doesn't end with one of the guys, I just want to see them sing...

I don't mind at all.

I think the show is eye candy, the music is pretty catchy, and maybe they will introduce some of those characters who made cameos in the last season.

This made my day!
My body is ready too~!

Just I hope that Syo's brother, Masato's sister or father and Senpais appear this time. More romance and more story about each bishie... It'd be wonderful.

If it's not too much to ask... Of course.

Ah, whatever. I’m going to watch it anyway. It’s a guilty pleasure. ┐( ̄ー ̄)┌.
I think, then procrastinate.

Well anime adapted from VNs usually go the main route or have an original ending. Unless its like that Amagami SS or whatever that series is called they animated each of the girl's routes.

honestly, uta no prince-sama was bad <_< (even the full name is horrible, but yeah yeah, don't judge an anime by its title... -> still wasn't good xD)

only watched this for the bishies and will probably end up watching it for that again, lol.
still hoping it'll be better but i highly doubt it..

Ooouh, the main character is pretty unpopular isn't she?? Well, it's only to be expected as one of the biggest Fujoshi series this year, except this is for that fanbase ONLY.

Are the girl just jealous to see the main heroine getting so many guys that are "top tier?" That's certainly one valid reason as many protagonists are like this

Hmm, I only watched the first season because of the music, VAs and the couple tolerable characters (for me personally, not being a fan of harems/reverse harems like these).

Put on my Plan to Watch for these reasons. I wonder if it'll be better than the first season...?

Isn't that why everyone dislikes 99% of harem leads? Aren't we all just mad jelly on the inside? Why you gotta make it sound like a gender thing ("Oooo you wascally fujoshi you")?

PS: Haruka was fine. Yes her pupils were for some reason coated by her irises and yes she is a harem lead, but she was pretty cute to me.

We dislike most harem protagonists because they're usually utter fools who lack any concept of human social norms or self control, and their reactions strike us as completely irrational and irritating. Of course there are some good ones too. But the ones people dislike tend to be that... personally, I can't think of too many harem leads I'd want to be.

Why you gotta make it sound like a gender thing ("Oooo you wascally fujoshi you")?

But I agree it's not a gender thing.

PS: Haruka was fine. Yes her pupils were for some reason coated by her irises and yes she is a harem lead, but she was pretty cute to me.

I liked Haruka precisely because she might seem on the surface like a typical harem lead, but she manages to be a much more sympathetic and likable lead than most others. She didn't overreact as outrageously or make the profoundly stupid choices you'd expect. She had less than stellar moments, but I could actually see her as a decent, sensible human being, which is more than I can say for some others.

She does, of course, have the benefit of being a cute girl. I'm not going to pretend that doesn't play a part. But you know what, I liked a lot of the guys too, and they were, um, not cute girls. I dunno, UtaPri just did harem right. I still think similar shows with reversed genders could learn a lot from it.

Well of course there are people out there who actually have reason to dislike characters and it certainly seems like Japan has completely stopped giving two craps and any effort to their harem leads, but it's not like you never see guys spazzing out in the name of defending their wiafus. So I guess more than anything I resent the implications that it's a "crazy girl thing that crazy girls do" (I resent the hypocrisy more than anything). Everyone (as in boys and girls) does it, and it's equally silly no matter what gender they are. I think a lot of girls get a little crazy with their bishounen animes and reverse harems and otome games and even their yaoi adaptations because there are so few of them made in comparison to eroge adaptations and harems and such (and yes I understand why that is with the hardcore anime buying public and the demographics and such, I'm just saying) and so we tend to get a bit more... emotionally involved. When it's one show a year and not two-three a season you do tend to pounce on things a little harder (not that that's an excuse for silly behavior but I would say that it's a factor).

I was going to make this post a lot longer and whinier, but that would be stupid and this isn't the place for moaning (not to mention that I've already put way too much thought into this as is) so I'll just say Haruka was most definitely better written then the average male harem lead but I think that is far more a criticism on the part of harem leads then it is a compliment to her. But I could definitely see why someone who has been subjected to the 1000 variations of pervert high school boy with 10 girlfriends that Japan churns out, would enjoy her.

And if any of that came off as insulting to the harem genre, it was unintentional. I believe cartoons are meant to be enjoyed and accept the fact that people enjoy things I do not. And that's ok.

So
tldr yes a lot of the hatred and strong dislike of her is silly. I thought she was a shade on the bland side but that's just my opinion as someone who is not enamored with pretty girls, and no, she was not nearly as offensive a character as she is made out to be.

Uta Pri was a very enjoying show from top to bottom. Wasn't anything spectacular in the grand scheme of the universe, but it was an enjoyable and well made r.harem. And it's nice to hear someone from the "outside"'s thoughts on it.

K I'll shut up now.

Same can be said for the male fanbase too when it comes to harems. I always see "OMG the main male in harems are retarded why are the girls all over his dick blahblahblah???!!!111" and when it comes to a female lead it like "OMG so annoying and whiny why do all the guys like her???!!!!111"

I liked Haruka, but her eyes creeped me out. O_o

Honestly, Haruka is one of the few reverse-harem protagonists that I hate. No, I'm not jealous, I just hate her character with passion.

First of all, she got into a "prestigious performing arts school" (in A Class, no less) without even knowing how to read sheet music (I think the school needs to step up their entrance exam). Why would you even think of entering a high class music academy if you don't even know the basics? Seriously, wtf. No wonder the students thought it was connections (though I think writing it on the board was uncalled for. Bunch of assholes)

And then she's constantly creeping Tokiya. Felt bad for him, but I guess it turned out okay in the end.

And then there was that time she visited her granny. She said she would help her in the fields, but then she just sat there wallowing in self-pity while her grandmother did all the work. Yeah, okay, just let the elderly woman do all the hard work while you just sit around. Even though you said you'd help out.

---

Aaaanyway, still looking forward to season 2, despite the cheesy plot and awful protagonist.

Needs more flying-cat-prince-from-a-faraway-land. (<-totally not cheesy or lame in any way. Yep)

Uh, I'm not a fujoshi (or even female) and I thought it was great.

I loved Haruka though. She was much better than her equivalents in male protagonist harem anime. Her eyes were creepy... but the character was totally lovable.

Well, perhaps not... but I was overexgerrating when I said that, there are obviously non-fujoshis watching this BUT the majority that show themselves are Fujoshi.

Which is exactly why I said "protagonists" meaning the main character. It's true for both gender but the female fanbase is relevant in this case. Yeah, I hate some harem protagonists, except my favorite harems shows, if the protagonist is good then the series is likely to be good also.

I love her eyes...

Her eyes are appealing to me.Yeah most people are jealous, but some Protagonists are just good at pissing people off. I htink a protagonist should be ENTERTAINING more than anything, or else the fans will hate him/her

O.O When will it be aired? Sometimes the difference between the end of one season and the start of another can be almost a year! Please come out soon! I loved the first season, and I want a second. Haruka is OK but... she just doesn't deserve those guys! If I was her, I also wouldn't be able to choose just 'one' but at least I would have tried! Tokoya... no. Natsuki... yes. Shou...yes. Ren... politely reject generous offer. Ittuki (Gah! I forget spelling!!!)... become close friends with instead. (Man... I forget the name... the guy who likes sad songs and taught her piano when her fingers couldn't move) ... yes. So in order of Least to Greatest want of coupling (with me. not her. well kinda o///o)
1. Tokoya
2. Ren
3. Ittuki
4. Emotionless Piano
5. Shou
6. Natsuki !!! -> I think he deserves a GF the most!!!
(I'm in war with myself though over 4 & 5 and if they should swap places or not)
Wish they were all real... *sigh*
