I very glad I decided to watch this. Why did I refuse to watch at first? Music.battle.girls.aliens = too cheesy. I'm so glad I was wrong

Hibiki died and shes back alive? o.O and became a monster in the ending.

But sure this is excited i shall watch more :>
Not quite sure myself, but I think after the opening they show what happened before she died
I think that Hibiki dying happens much later and this was a present flashback. Her friend Miku might be the new Senhime to replace her.

It's possible but not sure. Certainly time lines were played around in the beginning.

Wow, unexpectedly awesome. The only thing I didn't like were the Noise that popped up out of nowhere all the time. There wasn't anything on the roof and suddenly, dozens of Noise.

no idea what just went on. why is singing used in fighting so much?

why was the girl crying at her grave if she barely survived the attack? what the hell are "noise"?

kinda interesting enough to keep watch but wtf happened?

O_o' It was unexpectedly brutal. I would say that I really liked the episode, but kinda sad that they killed off Kanade, who was... how should I say this.... my favorite character for a few minutes? I know that it was made in a way to be shocking, but I'm now kinda pissed as I don't like Hibiki who will obviously take place as a main.

Yesss, I approve. That was awesome! =D

Not really a happy start, but I love the fact that she inherited the same power from the Zwei Wings or something. It didn't look entirely good though. I sense some corruption inside! :O

I have no idea what I just watched, but I loved it! The concert scene was a pure winner. I had Macross Frontier feelings the whole time. I also liked how they mixed up the English and German words for certain terms. 13 episodes seems a bit short, but it might be great if they don't ruin it.

Totally didn't expect all the blood. The last scene looks kind of promising. This season has a lot of good OSTs including Symphogear, Aquarion, and possibly even Lagrange.

Judging from 1st episode, it's so-so. Maybe because it's only 1st episode.
I watch this just because there is Nana Mizuki there :D

So Kanade died, then what's the point keeping her in the cover pic? That's misleading then

Btw for some reason, the Zwei Twin reminds me of MCs in Star Jewel lol

Don't know about the characters, but I certainly wouldn't mind if this show went Star Jewel's way ;)

The person who told me to watch this really should have simply said "It's Nanoha Strikers meets Macross 7". I really had no idea what I was in for, and I was PLEASANTLY surprised. Amazing show, probably the best of the season. Dat ending, man. Dat ending.

I didt not enjoyed at all... The hole time I was like "WTF is going on here?". I was kinda bored because I did not like the design of the characters, but the plot was like... o_______o Da fuck is wrong with this!?

I'll probably end up dropping it.

I was a bit confused in the beginning. Things seemed a bit melodramatic at first, someone just balling at a grave for someone we don't care about. And then we get a flashback right after, and I immediately begin to think that the writers are lazy if they're just gonna get right to the point like this. But the concert was
entertaining, and the combat and flair wasn't bad.

The show is a bit darker than I was expecting. I LOL'ed at the named attacks and had a bit of a Panty & Stocking flashback.

I'll be interested to see if this show can keep my interest. It seems to be trying really hard to go with this musical concept. But I can't fault the show for trying.

Wait what the f?! Kanade dies the first episode? I am really hoping this ain't so, even if she did look like she got disintegrated. >.> Both Kanade and Tsubasa looked just beautiful and their personality looked really good. Love these two already.

Wait wasn't that Miku mourning for Hibiki in the beginning? Hibiki suddenly transforms into the same suit that Kanade did. And Miku said she died singing on the battlefield, is this what is about to happen? What is going on lols.

Songs were great, can't wait for the soundtracks to come out. Great art too. Unexpected massive development in the first episode, wow it was great. Then they leave it off at a cliffhanger, just awesome. Really looking forward to this anime.

You're lucky, I was watching for Kanade and her VA, now I don't really care anymore if she's already gone, let alone before any other of the other character even managed to be interesting in her place and I hate the lead she was replaced with and her character design. :(

the music is ehh.. only insert song that i found good or great was when Kanade sang that song which sacrificed her life for Hibiki..
i'll look forward to the next episode, hope something great happens if not.. then ehh...

First half was absolutely epic. Why did Kanade die dammit, the most interesting character.

From then on though... the only interesting parts were the parts involving Tsubasa and then finally the very end. Not too fond of the bland little girls or the school scenes.

This. First half with Kanade and Tsubasa was epic break the genre "Gainax-style", then it went from potentially most awesome piece of epic of the season to I've totally lost most of my interest with the loss of my most excited character. *sigh*

Exactly elior1! She never died I mention this:

I was a little raging because people did not realize that music being able to pass on can be also that Kanade's swan sung passed on to Hibiki.

This may be proven with the tomb of Hibiki. Furthermore the ruins of the city prove that Hibiki may have had to use that power to save the whole town. Notice also the beginning shows the Noise being aggressive towards the town with another attack later on after Hibiki is saved.

What I WTF is why is not anyone doing to make more of these suits or find girls suitable for them less all of it happens just like that. I am also sure I heard of this setup somewhere. But having over 800 animes, one's memory can be a hassle to remember of things.

Unfortunately that description, and I'm not surprised she passed on her powers from that, still makes Kanade herself dead....

Even if Hibiki did get the powers from Kanade (who is alive in her body... WTF is that kind of theory?) and if she ends up looking like her it won't be the same. The drama in the beginning could mean that Hibiki will take over the ''lost partner seat'' with look, persona and everything, while making others believe that original Hibiki is dead. Or not... this show can basically go ether way. They can do a rewind and tell a story from the beginning when Kanade and Tsubasa first started for all I know. All I can say is that Hibiki surviving instead of Kanade is a horrible trade-off, like some stated already here. Because the plot looks messed up and even if everything was crap, I would have watched it because of Kanade but now.... meh. I'll give it a few more episodes and see where it goes.

What I do want from this show is that it influences future Ar Tonelico games wannabe and we have female characters who fight and sing at the same time. XD

Yeah I think her powers or maybe even her spirit or w/e being passed on to Hibiki is a very likely possibility. But all that means is that Hibiki's got her powers, and Kanade remains dead... Unless I see her physically there, still sucks for me. =( -still hoping that she comes back somehow though cause trade off between Kanade and Hibiki is just ugggggh-

I wah hoping that Kanade didn't die though . . .

anyway, i'll make some point here . . .
It's true that her powers are passed on Hibiki, but not her spirit . . . (i have some explanation, but it's not the right time to tell it)

maybe we'll get to see Hibiki's death in a few more episode . . . (damn yeah, i want Kanade back . . .)

However, the one thing that i can't think of, is how the hell will Kanade return?
it still bugging me . . . (except he will no return, but what the point with commercial poster then?)

So did orange hair girl just drop everything to save a small girl because she tripped and scrapped her knee, while she totally ignored the many people dying from these Noise things? And did she just kill herself to save this one girl for no apparent reason? That scene just made me laugh and I don't think that's the emotion the producers were looking for...

The singing is just... horrendous and the animation is... below average at best.

We already have Guilty Crown continuing its trainwreck into this year, can we not have another one?

I hope I'm proven wrong.

Sigh... looks like it will be another decade till we get another "Madoka" tier anime.

That's what heroes do. It is effective to have heroes fight/help in general vicinity of a disastorous and show nameless characters running around dying. When it comes time to create a more personal feeling the scene will switch to a a small group(sometimes as small as one) that only a hero can reach and this rescue scene becomes even more personal if the victims are named characters. BTW I am not describing the scene in Symophogear, that is just how every hero action-rescue scene has plays out.

Kanade was worn out and at the end of her power. She had an immediate decision to make; try to save Hibiki with her dying breath, wait to see if Tsubasa would make it to her in time, or run away to safety leaving Hibiki to die. If Tsubasa showed up at the last minute I can see you and of other people bitching about how trite and cliched that was. Running away would have been different but outside of comedies such action is really out of place.

The singing is just... horrendous and the animation is... below average at best.

My ass the singing is below average. Tsubasa and Kanade are voiced by two highly gifted singer/voice actors.

Sigh... looks like it will be another decade till we get another "Madoka" tier anime.

I don't see what that has to do this. So fucking what if Symphogear isn't god tier. There's still room for it to be just plain ole "good". So far it has already managed to shrug off a lot of the preconceptions people here had about when we only had the press release to go on.

Yeah sadly but not sure of her soul about that. Body wise, yeah man forget it she is gone. Nothing can change that and it's damn sad. Saw it twice this episode, feelings remain the same for Kanade's death.

Not sure of that one either because there seems to be a 2 year lapse from that scene of Miku crying and the after one where Hibiki is at the concert. Then another flash forward to present means to when Hibiki recovered after the operation.

Furthermore the city is in ruins so most likely Hibiki might have had to use the swan song. Remains to be seen. I am hoping when the story picks of the graveyard Miku will have powers.

Im a sensitive person so i cant stand it when kanade more about Hibiki then the normal people that died. seems very fake to me. Also an all girls show like this does not really seem interesting . Also is it just me or is Noise the name of the enemy of another show as well ............. Also Hibiki's panting made me laugh would anyone pant so fast .The show has been boring so far but it might get interesting . More information is required

Too much singing, not enough content.

It is impossible to take the "desperate fights" seriously when they are running around fighting for their lives at the same time they are preforming some jpop concert.

I would be fine with an epic battle hymn (we need more of these) instead of generic, ear-splitting JPOP...

Of course, instead of saving the people getting shot at and eaten by the Noise, the orange hair girl decides that she has suddenly save this little girl, someone whom she does not have any interaction with beforehand, instead of saving the dozens of other people getting killed, because she tripped an scrapped her knee. I don't know, but getting killed seems far worse than having your knee scrapped. It would maybe make sense if they knew each other beforehand, but they didn't... If there was a stranger held at gunpoint and another stranger that fell and scrapped their knee, which one would you help? Yes, I understand the need for a personal touch, but there has to be a reason...

I think the creators are going for the shock factor ( characters dying - see any parallels with recent anime =D ) and it's failing dismally. You have to be able to relate the characters before them dying has any emotional impact.

Let me correct myself on the singing. I'm not saying their voices are bad. I'm saying the JPOP is generic and the concert scene, which should be one of the crowning moments in the episode, was not invested in terms of animation quality. And for an anime which I assume will be about music, they are no so much using the music to accentuate the situations presented, but they do so in order to sell more CDs... Instead of immersion, I'm taken right out of the anime... hence, why I personally feel this situations to be comical than serious.

Oh no, they have to fight Gnosis!... well, maybe not, but these aliens do remind me a lot of Xenosaga, just instead of turning people into salt these ones turn them into ashes...

Anyway, that was one weird first episode, one character dead already and another with a death sentence... Bold but good move, it definitely raises the overall tension.

No it really doesn't raise the tension (the girl's grave already did that). Nor was it a good move. They traded the most distinctive character they had for the most boring overdone character in the entire show, and with a bait-and-switch no less, that's not bold it's a dick move especially with the pandering of going from Kanade to Hibiki.

I should love this show with the Ar Tonelico and Xenosaga influences but I just can't when they killed the character I came into the show interested in and traded her in for overdone same-acting moe cliche schoolgirl #5000 (which isn't necessarily so bad when you know it coming in and that's fine in a character like "Hibiki" when you're not trolled with something else that's potentially awesome first [I like plenty of shows with normal protags] and then have it taken away purely for trolling despite BOTH Kanade and Tsubasa being on the series image, not just one of them).
