give reasons why live action anime sometimes indeed flops

1.not enough based on anime.
2.add too much original stuff in live action version (looking at you hollywood)
3.really all been put in movie version really for safe start do it on the tv.

Hmm interesting. I am not too surprised. I watched some of the Hayate no Gotoku taiwan-drama and I dropped it after 2 episodes. Hinagiku seemed to have been merged with Ayumu or something (I am not quite sure, I dropped it before she showed up.) Maria is turned into a scheming bitch. Nagi was given a supposedly a various famous actor, which implies that the live action would focus on her. In my opinion, the HnG live action failed at number one, and since most of the plot is driven by the characters, it subsequently failed number two as well.

tl;dr: I agree with the sentiment.

I've only seen a handful of anime adaptions, but none of them were any good - probably hard to recreate the anime "feel" in a live action movie or tv show. /trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.

However - DB Evolution.

so....ya....

Other anime movies we have to "look forward to"?
Death Note - The studio almost got Ryok taken out of it. Light might be turned into a blameless good guy by the end anyway.
Akira - Basically the same story, except without the supernatural powers. In case you've never seen, that's like saying "Lucky Star without Moe" or "Evangelion without Evas, Angels or psychologically messed up people."
Cowboy Bebop - I heard they wanna cast Keanu Reeves as Spike. Keanu Reeves has never acted a character with a personality like Spike's before (that i know of.)

Probably a few more I've not heard of yet - I truly hope these turn out well, but I doubt they will.

no surprise there - personally, i can't really see the reason for making live action versions in the first place - you lose all the romance, mystery, and beauty of the original anime format!

Well all of the time, the movie has about 1 hour to tell the story. While the anime series has over 10 hours to do so. Trying to stuff all that info in that short amount of time is insane.

In plan honesty every live action movie based off an anime has and always sucked.

The only way a live action movie of anime would be any good is if the anime was already a movie to begin with.

Agreeing with these above. They change it so it's appropriate to real life, and not faithful to the story, because some are really difficult to be done in real life. I feel that the live-action is made just to please the "normal" (not manga/anime fans) audiences.

On the other side, I'm still kind of looking forward to live-action Rurouni Kenshin Movie (I heard the OVA coming out this December is just to prepare for the live action movie).

despite this truth in the failure of most live actions, nodame cantabile is really awesome. by far the best live action adaption i've seen (even though it aired Before the anime..). it's funny and stays true to the characters. watched the whole series twice.

True most of the drama/movie adaptations i watched were bad, also sometimes they try to make it too much like anime/manga and turns out weird ( Doramas) and let's just forget about Hollywood. Takeru looks pretty good as Kenshin, hopefully it won't dissapoint.

the fact of the matter is, Anime and Manga need to stay just that, Anime and Manga. There are just some things you cannot translate from animation to real life, such as some of the facial expressions. I think it would be best if they just stopped trying to convert anime to real life. Keep it the way it is so you don't screw it up, and we can all live happy in our fantasy worlds
"Forged in darkness with wheat harvested from Hell's half acre. Baked by Beelzabub; slathered with mayonnaise beaten from the evil eggs of dark chickens, force-fed to dogs by the hands of a one-eyed madman. Cheese boiled from the rancid utters of fanged cows. Layered with 666 separate meats from an animal which has maggots for blood."

I agree with what everybody is saying. #2 should be #1 in my eyes. But even then, if series can't be adapted well into live-action then I wish they wouldn't bother doing it. If it can, then that's awesome! But I have yet to see a decent adaption for live-action. :/

hmm interesting... i feel like tw dramas usually follow the manga pretty well, compared to korean or even japanese live-action adaptations haha. ah, fail. i dropped that drama within an ep as well though.

Agreed.

To be honest, I thought the percentage would be much higher. Personally, of all the live actions I've seen, I've only liked 2: Death Note (wasn't even really that accurate to the original story) and Ouran High School Host Club (saw 1st few eps, and it was stupid, but in a cute parody way, so I liked it).

I don't know, the whole idea of live-action anything just rubs me the wrong way.

Unlike most people here, I think #1 is more important than #2, especially if #1 incorporates the idea that actors should be able to act; sometimes, changes to the story are essential when passing to a different medium, but an actor who cannot capture their character is a sad thing to watch, really.

But anyway; we are the 65 percent! * camps outside Nippon TV *

i know i really think there going to destroy a great anime there. Also from what i'v herd on a few movie sites there not finished with the live action crossover yet they are planing a Robotech film with Tobey Maguire the writers of Smallville are sorting the story for it...
If i'm not mistaken didn't they make another tv sires the cape or something i don't know it was that bad that didn't even finish the first twelve episodes it got canceled.

Exactly what I thought. I haven't seen a good live action adaption in... quite a while. And, for me, it's mostly because of #2. #1 contributes to it... quite a bit, but still.

Not really interested in live-actions, it just can't capture some things anime and manga can. I also think most Japanese actors look too feminine for their roles.

Anime usually doesn't transfer well to live action movies and tv-shows. I feel like they sometimes rely on the gimmick "hai guise this an anime live action movie look at us!!", and now on good writing or acting, and thus it could sometimes get difficult for people who haven't seen the anime/read the manga to understand what the hell is even going on half the time.

American Adaptations mainly. They F up the series.
They Americanize them so the American people would give them money. They don't give a rat's ass about the actual people who made the series popular in the 1st place,THE FANS.Dragonball Evolution. is the most infamous example of American rape of anime.
They changed big things such as plot, characters personality, setting & anything Hollywood believe would drive away average Americans.
The magic of Anime & Manga is because it IS anime & manga. If they even THINK about touching One Piece,it's certain they rape it harder than Dragonball.

In Fact:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C37IZ5dyUbY
Watch this video about Hollywood & an anime fans response to it's current state.
