My top 5 would probably be something like...

Dennou Coil - 26

5 Centimeters Per Second

Shigurui - 12

Ayakashi: Japanese Classic Horror - 11

Millennium Actress

I'm sure there are some more, but those are the best picks off the top of my head.

Oh yeah, I know, heh. The sex was lovely too, but I didn't mention it for two reasons;

1. This is about the anime.

2.

The three most singularly beautiful things I've seen in anime:

Spoiler for Utena: Adolescence Mokushiroku:

Spoiler for Maison Ikkoku episode 94:

Spoiler for Saber Marionette J episode 24:

The first scene is simply beautiful, conceptually and animation design-wise, on a scale rarely seen. The latter two were just emotionally touching in a way I almost never see in any form of entertainment.

The dance scene between Utena and Anthy from the Revolutionary Gril Utena movie.

The dance in the rain between Ono and Chikage in episode 3 of Antique Bakery.

The scene in ep 25 of Death Note between L and Light on the steps.

And pretty much every scene in Natsume Yuujinchou and Spirited Away.

Its a combination of all the shared feelings that Chrno and Rosette, this is the reason that scene wins me so much

Talking about animes from this year, the last scene of Clannad Tomoyo OVA likes me soooo much too, it was full of emotion, like the CC ending and thats my definition of beauty

I always thought the scenes with the girl and the robot in CLANNAD were beautiful. The way the scenes are animated and the music gives off this really surreal dream-like feeling. I don't know, I get goosebumps every time those scenes come up.

Yeah, I know what you mean. And then afterwards with Shinji screaming, "Make this damn thing stop!!!" to his father ... I don't know it just kind of hit me really hard. So yeah, I could agree with you there.

I liked Beck in episode five too but my favorite part is when they're singing "Follow Me" together. That's probably my favorite song from the series with "Step Out" coming in a very close second.

And I have to agree, Beck is ten times better with the dub.

Augh, I completely forgot about that. I'm adding that to my list, that last scene plus the song that kicks in makes that my favorite scene from the film (even though the whole movie is great).

The "Do You Remember Love" sequence from The Super Dimensional Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love?

The final scene in Gunbuster.

Waiting at the bus stop in My Neighbor Totoro.

The "Hybrid Rainbow" sequence in FLCL episode 2.

When Ladd and Claire meet in Baccano.

I'd list a scene from Gurren Lagann, but it's too hard to choose just one. The series was made of awesome scenes.

There are many I could list if I thought about it, but the first one that comes to mind is from Pale Cocoon. It's one of the very last scenes, where Ura first see's the world above, and the red earth in the distance. Such a beautiful scene.

Really overlooked is the first 2 minutes of the first episode of Clannad. I randomly started rewatching it 10 months after finishing Clannad and I completely forgot that scene.

Kanon's ending was good, too.

The entirety of 5cm/s; especially the scene starting around minute 39.

Yeah an what everyone else said, too.

Hell yes, you've got to love that one.

Anything from Makoto Shinkai for me, Perhaps some of those mind blowing sky shots from 5cm per second, or that last scene when the trains pass between the main characters.

Some parts of Ergo Proxy are rather impressive, beautiful animation, great atmosphere and everything just feels like it fits. The final few minutes of the series come to mind, as do some of the scenes of the first proxy fight. I love post-apocalyptic imagery and abandoned buildings and the like, so the entire series fits perfectly with me.

The end of Nodame Cantabile:

Noein's episode 22 - if you've seen it, you know what I mean. Unparalleled emotional impact. Probably one of my favorite episodes in anime ever.

Pretty much all of Simoun, but the ends of episodes 8 and 16 especially left me trembling.
