THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Another functional action piece but doesn't budge an inch as far as story is concerned. The first episode was pretty light but I forgave it for having to introduce the characters and premise. There being nothing to think about (for an easy example, the circumstances whereby Mellowlink's comrades died) makes this episode a little dull.

I find it a little hard to believe that some guy walks off the street, says he wants to fight a walking tank while "naked" and everyone takes him completely seriously and set up a huge gambling event for him.

I also find it hard to believe a cliche of war robot gladiators that appears here; missed shots plow into the crowd, killing dozens. Why would anyone go to an event like this if it were so easy to get killed? It's surreal.

Incidentally, Mellowlink winning fights on foot against ATs makes him look like a much bigger badass than "supreme survivor", chosen of the techno-god Chirico Cuvie. I hated that part of the original series so that's fine by me.

I don't think the story is really supposed to go much of anywhere. It's been made clear since episode 1 that Mellowlink is classic revenge fantasy, set in a post-apocalyptic mechanized world. Chances are, we will get more info, but only in short spurts.

All we - the viewers - really need to know is that some men sold him and his friends out for profit. He wants revenge for his fallen comrades and closure from his own demons, that's all we need.

About the gladiators, as you can tell from the settings, the people live in pretty poor conditions. They'll find anything like giant robots duking it out as classy entertainment for a Friday night. Chances that some of the audience could get hit by cross-fire? That's the way it has to be, tough shit, it's a rough world.

Who would've thought that a human could outsmart an AT?

Mellowlink gets revenge on another person.

It made sense to me. Isn't Mellowlink apart of a unit that specializes on ground warfare that fight mechs on foot using anti tank guns, land mines, and a massive gun (paraphrasing from a fan review on the main page).. so isn't the point of his job to be able to outsmart ATs?

It was hilarious how an entire section of the crowed got blasted by Silver Fox and NOBODY thought "I should probably get the fuck out of here."

Solid episode!
