THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Love the couple and nice thinking from Shuujin.

Saikou's mother's worry (with uncle as example) and the head of publisher's decision making berserks on Fukuda team (even funny pre-salaryman mangaka and Niizuma) and publishing company (even Niizuma's editor)... Break until the graduation??

Boycott... hopes that Sasaki's reconsidering this unreasonable decision...

I just thinking this is boring now, guess there will be a 3rd season too, 25 episodes is not enough to cover the whole manga.
But I do enjoy the anime but this episode no.

Those are some awesome rivals (friends)... because really, in real life, I doubt something like this would happen. There's money and fame at stake here, and for them to go on hiatus for not too big of a reason, is a catastrophe. Look at Mashiro trying so hard to not go on hiatus.

it really depent if some rookie mangaka like here in bakuman i don't think it would work but if big shot like oda, kishi and kubo would do it that would be a real thread for the magazine.

Of a fairly large cast of characters, there are two people who don't sound bafflingly stupid at the moment. They are, of course, the editor in chief and Mashiro's mother. I can't fathom how anyone can even suggest that Mashiro keep up with the schedule that put him in that position in the first place. You don't have to stop drawing, you don't have to stop working on Trap. You have a guarantee that your serialization will continue at a point in time where there is no longer anything (like, say, high school) in your way. There is absolutely no reason you can't recover, finish school, and come back stronger than ever. But no, everyone and their dog is horrified by such an idea. "My uncle who died because he was overworked was proud of the fact that he overworked". What in the hell is wrong with these people!? I swear this has gone from one of my favorite shows to one of my least favorite shows in just two episodes.

Well you'll see why a hiatus hurt a new series more than ever. This is not Hunter x Hunter we are talking about.

However, I will personally always prioritize health over anything else. So does the editor and that is the whole point of the episode. It's NOT to show that the editor is the antagonist. I think it's pretty clearly presented that this is not clear-cut decision.
bla bla bla
The endless debate between fans and haters. At one point, after spending a lot of time on MAL, you just realize it's totally pointless.

It was great episode, seriously, just awesome :3
Fukuda Team is so cool, it's nice Mashiro and Takagi have so many friends who would help them ^^

Editor-in-chef is quite unreasonable. I understand that Mashiro needs some time to recover, but hiatus until graduation is just cruel :/

I agreed with both of you. The editor knows that the author health is important but yet the opportunity doesn't always come all the time. It is hard to be in his position to make the best decision so that nobody would have to regret about it later on.

Eiji: "And if he doesn't give in, I'll draw for another magazine until Ashirogi can draw again."

Nakai: "You're going that far? But you have a contract, so you can't go that far."

Eiji: "I'll return the down payment and do it! If it comes down to it, I'll pay the termination fees for Ashirogi and everyone else so we can migrate to another magazine!"

Ahaha, Eiji, I love you. XD
Can't wait for the next episode of this!

Oh god this episode was just..AMAZING. Everyone was getting SO pissed off and in a huff and freaking out about everything, and then Nizuma goes "LOL FUCK THIS SHIT I'MA TAKE A HIATUS TOO. THAT'LL SHOW THOSE FUCKERS." Oh god, brilliant.

And LOL at when the Chief Editor came back to the studio. Everyone there was scrambling to get to their desks like kids in a classroom when the teacher gets back xDDD

Best ever.

If there anything that this episode teach us is that no matter how good we are if our health is bad then we are no better than a fool. You know this is the only time were I agree with the chief editor, so sue me. Let's face it things like that happen in real life, where we have a public official here where he suffered a stroke, what happen next is that he's unable to do his job well so our place ended up having a recall election where he got sack talk about adding insult to injury, he should have just resign honorably.

Then again the boycott was good.

Let me point out something to clarify what I'm trying to say. If Mashiro had tripped and broken his leg, I'd be all for them continuing their efforts. But Mashiro is unquestionably in this situation because he tried to keep up with high school while serializing a weekly manga. Even if he didn't have a relative who died from being overworked, the situation would be exactly the same. And everyone just wants him to go right back to doing what he was doing! Sure, he'll die, but it's ok because he had a stubborn passion for the work he was doing! -.-

I usually just overlook these comments, but I'm not in the most positive of moods at the moment so I feel like saying something. Just...shut up. Stop assuming that just because I like anime, I automatically like manga. Let me enjoy the series in what I think is the superior medium, and let me discuss that medium, positively or negatively, in the appropriate topic (this one!). If you are tired of hearing people bitch about the anime, then you go talk about it in the manga discussion.

Seriously they’re all going on hiatus because they put TRAP on hiatus until April!? I can’t… it’s just so dumb… Why is everyone encouraging Mashiro’s ridiculous behavior? He’s just being a spoiled brat who can’t see outside of himself. Yes, manga is his life but still it’s not worth dying for. I mean why would you want to die at a young age like your uncle because you’re being stubborn? As long as he’s healthy he’ll still be able to draw manga. Jeez, everyone in that show except Mashiro’s mom and the Editor in Chief is an idiot.

I agree with Thalandor46 and Nasty001 to an extent. Mashiro's attitude has been stupid. It was just inane when he responded to the subject of his uncle with all the crazy things the man did to avoid hiatus as if that wasn't exactly the problem and probably why he died.

On the other hand, assuming the author is intent on taking this direction of headstrong, stupid determination, I think it was about as well written as it could have been. The shift from the perfectly reasonable hiatus for the hospital stay to till April colors the chief editor much more as a bad guy, especially with his very poorly worded response of it being because of the uncle. And the whole rookie team getting together for a boycott is genuinely exciting. I think I'll enjoy this well enough, even disagreeing with the motivations.

One thing I will agree with Mashiro on is that it is totally his right to drop out of high school if that's the concern. He's very set on and, honestly, pretty well prepared for the mangaka life. More than most high school graduates are for anything. Finishing up high school isn't going to make him any more ready for another job than he is for this one.

As a quick note, I really like Hiramaru's voice. Worked great during his little cool moment and pulls its weight through all the mood shifts.

Someone has to be the adult in the room, and it looks like the chief editor is fulfilling that role. Remember what they say about Mashiro's uncle: "a one-hit wonder". In a high-stress job working to deadline (like a mangaka) health problems are always a danger--the editor is quite properly trying to make Mashiro pace himself so that he can do more than one manga in his professional life. It's great that the other authors are supportive, but really I'd side with the editor on this. I've seen a lot of colleagues self-destruct from stress and overwork and in the end it's not worth it.
Please don't feed the trolls!

I'm with thalandor. The insane stubbornness of Mashiro and everybody around him has made the last 2 episodes almost unwatchable for me. I've liked the Bakuman series up to this point, but I don't know how much more of this I will struggle through. If I were the editor-in-chief, I would go ahead with the planned hiatus and discontinue all the mangakas threatening to boycott. It'd be a blow to the publication, but they should be able to find suitable replacements in a few months time. All these people need a serious dose of reality because apparently they are unaware of how seriously real the death of a kid over something as trivial as manga is. It's fine for a kid like Mashiro to think that death is preferable to losing hold of your dream, but all these adults ought to be more sensible.

Just for this whole controversy not being too overweighted by "Mashiro's dumb"-opinions:
I disagree.

There is no guarantee whatsoever, that Mashiro'd get a popular series ever again. If he'd stop now and then being unsuccessful for the rest of his life (like his uncle was, after Superhero Legend), he'd obviously regret it forever.
And that is exactly why there is no such thing as right or wrong here. Many people would prefer death over a whole life of regrets.
It's his decision.

Well, so much for my opinion.

also watching his dream with azuki slip away would be death to him mentally anyways
suicide via "i lost everything ive hoped for cuz i gave up due to hiatus" vs. RISK of losing life by continuing to draw, following my hopes and dreams

rationalize it like that and it should make sense for those that disagree with mashiro's opinion

Except that in this episode Azuki said clearly in Mashiro's face that she'll wait for him forever, so time isn't a problem. Mashiro should just recover himself and start again where he left, even if it means lose everything he gained until now. Furthermore, Ashirogi Muto is a skilled duo, they can bring a new manga that can top the rankings in no time.

But I know this isn't going to happen. This series is deeply permeated with the concept of "ganbaru", so putting everything into your dreams and never giving up is the right choice, contrasting with a more rational mentality.

his ambition is too powerful 4 him to just "choose the rational thing to do"
if he went hiatus 4 that long, the readers would just stop caring and he would fall further than his uncle did
