Given that your friends have watched a certain anime, will you be compelled to watch it as well?

Looking at my list, the only anime my friend recommended me was True Tears, which was pretty good. Usually I'm the one giving my friends the recs though. Oh and another friend of mine recommended me Romeo x Juliet while it was still airing, but we both dropped it in the middle out of boredom.

There are some. I will normaly check them out if my friends say that it is good, if not the genres or the stories are something that I don't like.

Not really. One exception is when two of my friends started watching Trigun and they would not shut up about it! So I decided to check it out.

No. I prefer to make my own judgements on things. The furthest my friends will go is suggesting anime that I may be interested in, but they know better than to tell me things like "it's great" or "it sucks".
What a day! What a lovely Day!

Eventually, I guess I will watch it, if only to understand what they are talking about during conversations.

Yeah sure, I mean legit the only reason why I know about Ojamajo Doremi and Clannad because one of my best friends told me about them.
Of course, I will have to look into it a little to see if it's my kind of thing before I actually think about watching it.

Forcing youself to watch something you don't wanna watch.
Will just end with you burning youself out.

To a certain extent. I look it up first, and if it looks good I’ll watch it. If not I’ll put it on a back burner.

I don't really feel compelled to be the same. Usually I'll only watch if it's either been in my plan to watch list for a long time and it's just that little push, or if it sounds THAT interesting to me.

I agree!! If you don't feel like watching something it won't even be a nice experience. (Like how I once forced myself to watch a certain popular series due to it being Highly Recommended by a friend, but I really didn't enjoy it since it wasn't my type to begin with.)

I'm the one along my friends who has watched the biggest amount of anime, so they usually watch stuff I've already seen

But yep if they appreciate some anime I didn't watch yet, I'll be more encline to watch it
However a few of them are watching NNT but this anime doesn't interest me at all yet, I guess I'll give it a try later this year

Sure. If a friend asks me to watch a show together, I'm even more inclined to do so. I tend to check out titles that my friends highly praise or just mention in passing out of curiosity. It works out pretty well for me most of the time.

Depends on what it is. If it sounds good, I'll watch it. If it's a genre I don't care for, I won't. Unless if they want to show me, I'll be more than happy to watch it with them.

Usually if my weebest friend says I and my other weeb friends should watch something, it means he's gonna fire up Cytube and we'll coordinate our schedules for a watch party.

peep how this is a discussion from 2008 but it's on the front page of anime discussion

but really, for me it depends on if I actually like it. If it's some generic battle shounen or isekai I'm not gonna waste my time but if I have a genuine interest then I'll pick it up.

One has to choose, either recommended anime or anime you picked by your self. Else you are going to burn out, which is never fun.

I’m often the friend that tries to convince others to watch a certain anime. I’ll watch something of theirs in return if they do watch what I recommended.

Sometimes I do, most times I don't. I only ever watch anime if I find them myself - sometimes they do recommend me something that I already planned to watch so I just move them up my list and watch them before other series, since a friend recommended it. But really, most times I just forget what they recommended lol

A lot of my friends don't share my tastes in anime so I don't generally ask for recs. When they do recommend a series though its usually a popular shounen lol

I don't share the same taste as my friends. They tend to like more shounen, but I don't care for it. Even if they're very enthusiastic about an anime, I rarely try one of their series.

It's rare that a friend recommends me anything so I'll definitely scram to watch whatever they say. It's fun to discuss something we both enjoyed or were annoyed by.

sure why not? i'm always open for a good recommendation.
but as my friends they should know my taste, so if they want me to watch a hentai or a sport anime for example i will not of course because it's not my cup of tea.

No because the few "friends" I know who watch anime are close minded and won't watch Clannad because of the moe art style or watch AoT because it's been memed to death on 4chan

when anyone recommends me anything, i feel compelled to at least consider it and maybe look into it a little if i don't know much about it. but in the end i choose to watch what i feel like at the time - just because my friends have seen something doesn't mean i will see it straight away.

If they recommend it to me and it looks like something I'd like, sure. But watching it solely because they do, no.

Lolno.
My friends will recommend me something, and it can take years before I finally watch it, If I ever do. I remember my friends talking about Steins;Gate and Evangelion, back in 2014-15 and I only watched those shows in 2018-19.
To be fair, my friends are the exact same way.

This ground is soiled by those before me and their lies. I dare not look up for on me I feel their eyes

wow, what an ancient thread to bump.

but to answer the question, yes for most of my friends, not because they say it's good or anything, just because i've seen much more anime than almost all my friends, so it feels weird when they watch an anime i haven't seen. makes me want to watch it... ig to prove a point: i am the bigger weeb or something, lol

No, but I generally watch what they recommend to me because we know the tastes of each other, so the recommendations are based on that knowledge.

Depends on which friend tbh. With some I agree with their tastes, with others I'll hear them recommend something and I'll just be like 'oh... cool' and then decide I'm never watching that.

It would motivate me to start watching something sooner if I was planning to watch it anyway or it really fit my taste otherwise. Talking about airing shows or watching episodes together and chatting is really fun!

I can't sit through something I don't really enjoy, though. My friends liking it doesn't change that, unfortunately... so if my friend asked me to watch an anime that I wouldn't watch otherwise, nope. Can't.

I definitely feel more compelled when a friend, particularly someone who knows my tastes well, recommends me an anime.

I don't care about what someone watch or not, I do glady accept recommendations.

But through the 10 years of watching anime I have never felt the need to force myself to watch a show that someone else have wathed before me.
