What's the dumbest/most embarrassing reason you've ever watched or refused to watch an anime?

What the title says.

For me, I started watching C^3 because I thought it was interesting that this is the third anime to have the letter C be central to the title. [C] Control, was followed be Blood-C, is followed by C^3. That was the only reason I even considered it.

Also, I've yet to watch Gunslinger Girl because I can't bring myself to watch an anime that takes place in Italy. Just the geographic location (I am not racist, I have nothing against Italians). The weird part is there is no reason behind it and this is exclusive to anime alone; La Dolce Vita is one of my favorite films.

I refuse to watch Kino no Tabi because I know I'll love it and I'll never be able to find something else like it again, causing me to quit anime forever or something like that.

I watched Lotte no Omocha because the idea of a tsundere loli succubus princess that hates guys just screams "watch me dammit!"

A show doesn't have 'em? No watch.
A show does have 'em? Okay, I'm in! No. 1 fan right here!

I am being absolutely serious.

I've watched several anime series because I've heard or read that they're very "slashable." In most cases, what I heard was correct and in some cases I probably had more fun participating/lurking in the fandom than watching the series itself. Actually, that's true with many things that I watch.

Onii-chan no Koto nanka Zenzen Suki Janain Dakara ne!!

I really like OreImo and I was fine reading Boku wa Imouto ni Koi wo Suru, but something about the opening scene of Onii-chan made me get the feeling that the siscon was way too strong off the bat.

Even though I already know that

*watches Eureka 7*

@shocked: Don't watch an anime because it is too good. lol

@ciddypoo: As a brother to two sisters, I can't stomach any siscon. I'm not missing out on anything, am I?

@edefrem: *watches OP* Seems legit.

Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me

The siscon dies down pretty fast and then the brocon kicks in. I can't say if the brocon in the series would be too strong but it would be real brocon and sibling complexes, unlike OreImo.

I stopped watching Elfen Lied after a few episodes because the opening just kept creeping me out lol. I will pick it up again though due to all the praise I've read about it..If I could just make it past that strangely disturbing opening sequence lol.

Skip it? Though it is arguably the best thing about the show.

OCD man. It kills me. I want to watch anime for enjoyment, but if I ever start watching an anime that turns out to be bad, I like HAVE to finish it according to my peace of mind, even though I really just want to watch anime cuz I honest to god just find it enjoyable.

I cant watch Hentai. I want to. But I just cant. I mean, Im totally fine with it, but I think somewhere along the lines of my parents scaring me silly with anything slightly porno when I was 5, and now I have like this mental block against watching it. Sniff, sniff. DX

I'll get to it eventually. When I need something a little edgy that doesn't have to involve gratuitous amounts of gore. I'll throw it on my PTW.

The dumbest reason I've ever had for watching an anime? Watching every episode of Endless Eight just for the sake of completion. That's pretty much it.

I picked up Toaru Majutsu no Index just because I liked the opening.
Harems don't exist in America. If one guy is constantly surrounded by beautiful girls, then he's probably the gay friend.

I'm always encouraging people to get past their art prejudice and watch some older anime for the story and yet I can't get past the art style of Kaiji and Akagi.
-animeS - The plural of anime is anime. More than one deer is still deer. There is no damn "s".
-epic |ˈepik| noun•a work portraying heroic deeds/adventures covering an long period of time - adjective • heroic/grand in scale or character

I just started Legend of Galactic Heroes because this website peer pressured me into it; good job, guys.

@lisnoire: To be fair it is a very ugly art style. Madhouse does do some pretty cool things to take advantage of it, but still...
BTW it is somehow less griping on the manga. You can do that if you want to get into the hype.

I have actually been put off a number of anime's that feature a lead female assaulting a male for no particular reason upon (or pretty much) her arrival - this sets the tone for the whole series generally; lack of plot disguised by the following formula = bipolar girl + wimp male + common scenario = mass produced content made for the impressionable consumer that will sell.
Yes, many of these series' are good, but the above lowers the tone a tad for me - it's just the easy option.
(Being a shounen lover, it's hard to get away from unfortunately)

I have watched stuff for very daft reasons, such as:
- the front cover looks interesting
- I have heared it's very bad; bad to the point of laughable
- it's short and I'm simply looking to marathon something one weekend
- it's in the reccomended segment in this site, even though the discrpition sounds off
HATCHA said:

... Though I did it with xxxHolic, admittedly I didn't even give it 5 minutes, it was more like 1, 2 at a push.

This is me!
I was put of straight away by the art style in xxxHolic - I tried watching it but can't maintain focus when taking the scenery in.

I watched Shinryaku! Ika Musume because I looked at the cover picture and thought the water was a pretty color.

I watched Oreimo because I thought Kirino's eyes were a pretty color.

I watched Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica because I thought Sayaka's outfit and hair were pretty colors.

(I'm noticing a pattern here...)

I watched Higurashi because I liked Rena's hat.

I watched No.6 because I thought it'd be like watching some strange Allen and Kanda (D.Gray-man)-centered show. It was; but not the way I wanted it. (Worst decision of my life so far...)

I refuse to watch Eureka 7 because when I went to the bookstore one day, I was pressured to buy the manga (which I later returned) by a strange, socially awkward blue-haired man whose first words to me were, "You smell nice. Are you 18?" -.-V

I refuse to watch Cowboy Bebop because I hate cowboys.

I watched Elfen Lied because I was curious after seeing a picture of Nana chained up to a wall and bleeding. My friends would've freaked the fuck out if they saw the same pic; I didn't.

I refused to watch Clannad a few years ago because my friend said it was the saddest anime he'd seen. This was when I just finished Elfen Lied, which I considered the saddest anime I've seen.

- Akagi ~ simply cause Maximum the Hormone do the ED song
- Strawberry Panic ~ I wanted to test my sexuality
- Hellsing ~ I thought Integra was hot haha

Stupid reasons not to watch:

- Ranma 1/2 ~ because Ranma didn't sound how I wanted him to sound like (he had a feminine voice when he was in him male form /shudders)
