If an anime has anything in it that seems lame to me. for example i didnt watch Eureka 7 cuz of the mechs on airboards and i didnt watch One Piece cuz of the stretchy arms. idk its just the random things that would really bug me if i kept watching it.

* Basic harem comedy
* Basic shojo with controlling boyfriends
* Over-the-top fanservice
* Loli, shota, incest...
* The classic "looks like a light show before suddenly becoming dark" plot twists (I've dropped at least four of those out of genuine boredom, and now I don't bother)

I will give anything a try, regardless of release dates or art styles or what ever, but if the first few episodes can't hook me in I stop watching.

Anime that has a lot of fan-service.

This. Not only does it detract from any story that might be present I feel completely ridiculous watching it.

Sir_Inqed says: "There's no reason to throw your list at me, I really could care less how much you have seen. It was a joke, as it was clearly stated in my comment."

And my reply was intended as ironic humor.

Anime_Name says: "And someone as discerning as yourself wouldn't be able to tell a person like myself to broaden their horizons and expect to be taken seriously.

As long as you tell yourself that you are rarely missing out on good ones then that surely will be the case. Good for you for being able to watch mostly all of the good ones.
"

You are absolutely, totally 100% right and that is what is important. Never mind that I was talking about what is good for ME and not what anyone else should or shouldn't be watching.

I'm done here.
-animeS - The plural of anime is anime. More than one deer is still deer. There is no damn "s".

Sudden drop in animation quality, annoying characters, and the inability to get into the story.

Mecha and sports anime. Characters with animal ears, kiddish looking characters, characters with colourful hair, too much talking and bad/ugly art.

It being good for you doesn't mean I can't ridicule your long ass anti-anime list.

Lot's of Random fanservice which provides nothing for the story
Huge Bouncing Breasts
Poor Artstyle
Poor Character Design (Huge Shiny Eyes etc.)
Boring
"Manly" Fighting Females (Ikki Tousen etc.)
Trying Too Hard/Overdoing Elements (such as overdoing tsundere)
Too "Cheesy"

Though there are some exceptions for some, as there might be some other elements in the anime that overshadow them (e.g, I didn't mind watching Seikon no Qwaser as it had a very interesting story).

Poor Art
Fanservice
Trying to hard to be (the next Eva or some anime format set in stone)
Implausible scenarios
Female leads*

*Hardly universal, but a show with a female has an extra hurdle. I've enjoyed several shows with female leads, but I can relate more to male leads. Especially when a vast number of anime start with a premise of trying to connect the protagonist to the viewer, which is predominantly male.

I am most lkely not going to watch/going to drop something that contains one or more of the followings.

- Unoriginal/boring/cheesy story
- Dislikeable/cliché characters
- Moeblob art style
- Fanservice/Ecchi/Harem
- Slow pacing (slice of life)
- More than 50 episodes

That shouldn't stop you from watching/liking an anime. Gintama has 201 episodes and is number 3 on the Top Anime list.

Well, most of the time, my gut feeling serves me right. Then I take one look at the synopses, genres, and sometimes reviews if I'm in doubt.

If the series in question seems to be a generic cliché fest without any special redeeming qualities, then that's pretty much it.
Typically, this includes anything in a school setting with harem or a contrived "chosen one" kind of twist (Like Freezing for example, where one dude just happens to have magical powers and stuck in a school full of magical girls) or any action/drama that seems to be especially heavy on melodrama and pretension with a kid/teenager as the hero in some great conflict or conspiracy, like for example Guilty Crown.
Other than this, I also often end up avoiding something not necessarily because it seems very bad, but because it seems to be pretty much exactly like something else I've already watched (and that wasn't mind numbingly awesome), and I don't see it likely to be better than it.

Still, I do sometimes pick up something that seems kind of boring just for the heck of it, and to try and turn my brain off to be somewhat entertained.

Terrible filler stopped me from continuing Naruto. My life is about 20% cooler now that I don't watch that pile of dung.
This love for Hirasawa Yui consumes me, washing over my dirty weeaboo body with a cleansing warmth that allows me to reach greater heights. It inspires me to be a better man; not the man they deserve, but the man she deserves. Yui, I love you. With everything I have. You are my one, my only. Mai waifu.

Anime with too much fanservice or a voice actor I don't like are the two of the very few reasons I'll drop an anime.

Stupid protagonists that are both incredibly selfish and complete cowards
Excessive fillers
General small stories instead of one large storyline
Unfunny comedy

Wait scrap that. Shonen Ai. That's the one thing I'll never EVER watch. But apart from that, there's nothing where I'd say "okay if this is there, I definitely won't watch it".

That's definately me, I'd never be able to watch shounen ai but I've wanted to try watching yaoi the only thing I watched close to that was Gravitation..
That awkward moment when you're watching yaoi then all of a sudden someone walks in...

This probably isn't what this thread is about but ... I still haven't watched the Haruhi Suzumiya movie. The reason is a bit silly. I like the series so much I don't want it to be over. I don't want to ever get to the end of it.
I'm sure that I will watch it eventually in spite of that silliness.

I was actually the same way, but I eventually gave in. I'm glad I did.

Harems, and unnecessary fanservice. My parents both strated watching Sekirei, and I thought it looked cool, until the chick's breasts started bouncing everywhere, and she had absolutely no problem jumping around in front of a guy with no shirt on...

Other than those and heavy Seinen types, I can deal with anything as long as it's not overly long; Naruto and Bleach will be the only two long ass ones I will watch.

I cannot stomach too much grit and manliness. In anything.

I don't have anime as a hobby to watch manly grit. I come to watch anime to enjoy cuteness. Thank you very much.
Not crazy.

This. The best anime series don't need to have random filler episodes that have nothing to do with the plot.

If I found out that the female main character is a TSUNDERE, I'll drop the anime. But I'll continue watching it if the story good enough or there's other character that I like. I just can't stand Tsunderes. They're annoying as hell

I would add that anything under a 7 rating on MAL I try to avoid.
Harems don't exist in America. If one guy is constantly surrounded by beautiful girls, then he's probably the gay friend.

You lose.

Skull Man is one of the best anime I've watched. If not THE best. Well, it's the only 10 on my list.

1 Anime from Studio Pierrot or Studio Deen (sister companies included)
2 Mainstream shounen with a handful of fillers and corny monologue
3 Directors like Yutaka Yamamoto
4 Fan service
5 Anime with 200+ episodes
6 CLICHE.
7 Extremely predictable plot (including but not limited to Bleach and One Piece)
8 Never ending (almost) anime
9 Anime that try to explain something scientifically but has so many holes (like the way Reborn explained how Tsuna's flames work, very idiotic)
10 Those that try to imitate the style of SHAFT, Brain's Base or Silver Link.

ADD: An episode happening in the beach.

That following are stuff that hold me from watching certain anime:

1. It is the ultra lengthy conversations, fillers, and episodes in shounen series e.g. Naruto, bleach, etc.
2. Shounen-ai/BL, Yaoi (I can watch Yuri, shoujo-ai by the way XD)

- I can't think of more...
