THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- My, Fujiko's boobs sure were rather perky and huge in this special. I actually liked that the female addition was not tied to Lupin and that Fujiko did not betray Lupin. That kiss on Claude kinda made me feel sour though. Gotta love the end where the gang gets what they want though; now they really have went everywhere. |

Wonderfully entertaining movie. Much better than the previous TV specials. Karen acts like she fell in love with Jigen (and the ending song seems to confirm it?) which really doesn't make any sense. It make sense for her feeling toward him being complicated by his story of her father's treachery and his submissiveness to her desire of revenge, but why would she actually have affection for him? Moreover, Jigen and the others kidnapped her for their own selfish purposes. They don't mean her harm, but she gets dragged in deeper anyway and gets forced to help a greedy warmonger with her skills and then ends up dead. She really gets the short end of the stick. Jean Claude (or John Klause?) was slightly more complex than you'd expect from a pulp villain. When he's on the boat with Fujiko, he genuinely sounds a little lonely when he talks about being single and he seems pretty hurt when Fujiko threatens his life to escape. He'd treated her pretty badly by that point, so he's still a good pulp villain, though. Keith is just a "muscle" type to provide a physical threat like the CIA guy in the previous movie or Mash in the one before that, but he's handled so much better. The simple fact that he was so difficult for Lupin and company to defeat justifies his presence in the narrative, whereas the other examples I mentioned were just disposed of at some point. |

I have been waiting for Zenigata to team up with Lupin ever since Part II when Lupin used Fujiko and Zenigata puppets to win a majority vote against Jigen and Goemon, and I finally got it! |

I thought this was rather "special" Lupin episode compare to the last four for me. The plot waste no time unlike those specials with and had more serious and adult tone this time which maybe especially brought to affect bringing back the old part 1 director and resulted lot of bangs and explosions. cool. The villains was awesome too. [Cool fact was that Klause was voiced by the same va of the first Lupin va]. Not to mention this special episode does shaded light into Jigen's character in a really good way that I didn't realise before that much. The overall film wasn't without some huge problem like it didn't handled many of the cliche well and Zenigata joining Lupin wasn't very convincing enough. Still lot of great moment came out of it and making it one of the best Lupin special imo. |

This one was so good! It starts with an inconsolable Zenigata, who wants to drink his troubles away with Lupin because he was put off his case. Then they decided to team up to go against the weapon smuggling organization which became Zenigata's new goal so that he can go back to chasing Lupin instead of the mercenary who ICPO hired to kill him and his friends. And this is one of the best things here, the four of them, and Zenigata are working together, and pretty much from the start too. Goemon and Fujiko working together to rescue, well, actually kidnap, Karen from the guys who tried to kidnap her first, was pretty cool. She also shared a story with Jigen, which gave her some depth even though it was linked to him. She was also clearly conflicted, she wanted to avenge her father, but also didn't want to kill Jigen, the one she came to feel something for. But the way she pointed the gun at him again and again got a bit old by the third time. Keith was a coward too, he only wasn't finished off by Goemon because he used Karen as a shield. He was competent though, for a moment Lupin and his team were losing badly. Goemon and Jigen were supposedly dead, and Fujiko was captured. There was only so much Lupin and Zenigata could do by themselves, but Goemon was alright and they went back to the island to fight. Of course Jigen was alive as well and saved Lupin from being killed, and Fujiko didn't just helplessly wait for their help, escaping her cell with Karen too. She also saved them in the end by tricking Claude, the despicable merchant of death, who thought he was going to get away with the Ivanov, but even though it's a pity that it went up in flames, polluting the sea, at least it could no longer be used for evil as Karen wished in her last moments. They finished off Shot Shell doing something good for the world. Even the money wasn't really lost, and Fujiko went to space to get it back, I'm glad. lol I just feel a bit bad for Karen because her funeral wasn't even over and Fujiko and Lupin were already talking about the money, and Zenigata appeared to arrest him too. The priest just disappeared as well. lol Welp, really good stuff. Oh, and I liked the ending song! |

This Lupin special had a really good balance between plot progression, drama and silly moments. Bonus, team up with Zenigata. Loved it. Also lol @ at all the rubbish Lupin bought and how it came in handy. |

This is the only anime I've seen aside from Gunsmith Cats that utilizes a ballistic knife. Quite interesting. The whole special was kinda way too dark (literally), or maybe it's the BD's fault. Either way, not too impressive in terms of audiovisual stuff. |

I'm disappointed in Jigen's characterization here. He never had suicidal ideation in the Shôwa era, and it's out of character for him in general. He was the most emotionally together of the male characters. And why would he want Karen to kill him? First, she's more than half his age and is too young to be his love interest. Second, she's a nuclear scientist, not an assassin; it would be hard for him to take her seriously in this respect. Why should he care about her "finishing the job"? Third, she was dying by the third time he urged her to shoot him. It doesn't make sense. Finally, he wouldn't want to hurt Lupin by leaving him. In conclusion, his subplot is just needless melodrama. |
