So, what was the first volume of manga that you actually shelled out money for?

(Hope this doesn't duplicate an older thread.)

-------------

For me, it was Fullmetal Alchemist, vol 19. I got impatient waiting for my library to process it, so I tromped to the bookstore and bought it for myself. It was definitely worth it. (Now I have 82 volumes of manga in all, though lots of it was bought used.)

Mine was Bleach special~color bleach.
I actually got it as a present from a friend of mine and didn't paid for it, the first one I actually bought myself is sorceres&secretaries, even thogh I still didn't read it.
In my library there aren't a lot of magna, there is only volume 1 of Toradora, and volumes 1-11 of Vampire knight.Probably from an otaku that had lots of manga and decided to give some to our library XD

3x3 Eyes 6-11. It covered the story arc after the anime. 4000 volumes of manga later....

Well, that's first raw manga bought. I don't remember first translated. Bought MixxZine #1 and some translated volumes of X too.

Chibi Vampire v. 1. It sounded super-cute. It's held up to the test of time (I think I bought it 4 years ago)- I still really enjoy it, though not quite as much as when I first read it.

Technically, it was a volume of manwha that I bought before any manga. It was volume 2 of "Ragnarok". It was all I could find at a local bookstore ( don't ask me why they only had that one ) And that was about...9 years ago?

first manga i brought was the wole set of Yawara
"If you tremble with indignation at every injustice, then you are a comrade of mine"

When the union's inspiration through the workers' blood shall run
There can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun
Yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one
For the Union makes us strong

More like a manhwa for me like Sir_Inqed said.

Ragnarok - its online game was really popular in the Philippines, so I decided to buy it. It's a shame that I can't find where I stored it now. D:

Well, I've never bought manga before. I've only ever read it at school or at the library. So my very first purchase was this year! I bought the re-release of Sailor Moon 1 and Codename Sailor V 1 :)

Please Save My Earth and Happy Mania - I did not know what I was doing at all, I was just attracted to their covers. That would have been sometime in 2004 when I twelve. D: Neither of them got me into manga though. Happy Mania was wildly inappropriate for my age group and I was horrified to find out that Please Save My Earth had lots of volumes that I could not afford to buy.

First actual one would be Vol. 5 of Haruhi Suzamiya. Wasn't really thinking when I got it, but it had Endless 8 in it, so it wasn't a total loss.
The one thing that I'd love to see is a lesbian yandere.

Hmm... I was sure that I posted about the first five, or so, volumes of Naruto being my first manga purchase, but my post seems to have disappeared. Well, here it is again.

P.S. Has anyone noticed their posts disappearing or just not sticking?

I was once in a charity shop searching for cheap university books (uni' books are exceptionally expensive to the point of ridiculous!) when I saw volume 3 of One Piece sitting on it's own, I though to myself; 'what are you doing there?', so I bought it. ;)
I liked One Piece anyway, but this manga volume is exceptionally fun - it has a competition in it, a cut out puzzel and authors notes.

Detective Conan Vol. 1 - I loved the anime and I loved reading, so I was extremely happy when I found out I could also read it. :'D My first manga, translated to german of course.

My first manga translated to english was Kimi ni Todoke 1-3. And my first japanese manga was Ookiku Furikabutte Vol.1 (:

Mirai Nikki volumes 1-5 (1-4 were the only out at the time, and 5 was preordered). I will buy the rest once I get some money though, it's the only manga I'm ever planning to buy as well actually.

It was either Magic Knight Rayearth or Angelic Layer v.1 back when I was 9ish or so.

...Unless you mean "you" as in me personally, in which case I guess the first series I spent my own money on was xxxHolic about 4 years ago when I was getting into manga. Or Gosick if light novels count.

I often think of Chobits v1 and Marmalade Boy v1 as my first manga (I bought them at the same time and don’t remember which I read first). But I guess technically I bought the Tenchi Muyo! bi-weeklies VIZ released before collecting them into graphic novels.
