Frontier Works announced the production of a new TV anime series "Umineko no Naku Koro Ni". Umineko is originally a visual novel PC game produced by 07th Expansion. Its story and backgrounds are not related to the previous series "Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni (When they cry -Higurashi-)". According to the press release, they will start making the anime from this summer. Further schedules have not been provided yet.

I read a little bit of the manga and I really liked it. I'll have high expectations for this when it comes out.

Don't know it, but Higurashi related stuff must be good. The entry is already in the DB too.

I've only played the first two chapters, as that's all that's been translated, and I've also read the first three chapters of the manga... so I must say I'm looking forward to this which will be translated a lot faster than the game, probably. I hope they can get a lot farther in the game before the anime airs, as there was a lot more in the game compared to the manga, and the same will probably happen for the anime. :)

Even if we all knew it would happen at some point in the future, it's still great news. I'm wondering how they're going to pull a decent anime out of the few games that are out though... Well, maybe we can expect a slow pace and more develoment.

I've read somewhere that Umineko was confirmed to air in 2008... How can that even be possible, if they're just starting to work on it ?

I highly doubt it will air in 2008... it was probably an error on somebody's part of thinking (or misreading) production as when it will air. And I'm pretty sure we're getting Higurashi no Naku Koro Rei before Umineko no Naku Koro ni, anyway.

Sounds very interesting. Hopefully the mystery is just as good as Higurashi.

Had a feeling this was going to happen due to the popularity that Higurashi got, I haven't read much about this series but I loved Higurashi and I hope that this turns out just as good or maybe even better.

Well, technically it's the new addition to the When They Cry series (following Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai) by Ryukishi07 or 07th Expansion. The story is also set in the 1980's and although the location is completely different (the island of Rokkenjima) the feeling of remoteness and isolation is still present. The different series also share a couple of common characters, but saying anymore would be a spoiler. ;)

Personally I enjoyed playing the games and I think the soundtrack is fantastic! However, Umineko Episode 2 has left me in despair, so let's hope C74 brings better news for Battler et al. I believe this anime will air in late 2008 or early 2009 so all four Question Arcs of the game would be released before the season is over, providing the anime production team plenty of material to work with. Either way I can't wait to hear the voices of Battler, Maria and of course Beatrice!

I will pass.

Considering how similar the name of this anime is to "higurashi no naku koro ni", it is probably horrifying. I dropped the anime after watching the movie. Originally, I thought higurashi was something like Ghost Hunt, but it doesn't seem that way..

I suggest you continue it. Higurashi is a series that needs to reach the ending for you to see its greatness.

Oh such good news! They really dont plan to make the fans wait do they? They're pushing so many Higurashi related releases in the year 2009! (I know you said it wasnt related to Higurashi but its by the same creator...)

I've read some of the manga so far and its great, as expected! The anime really has some high expectations to live up to!
Bleed for me.
