Really moving episode, I didn't expect this from Sket Dance. Who'd think that Switch hides such a past? I thought that Kazuyoshi will be the one to die and then his little brother will live with tragic memories, but it turned out to be the vice-versia. Now I like more Switch, knowing who he really is, I really didn't like him when he was just computer voice without any emotions behind it. At first, when the student council's president talked to Bossun about his reason to create Sket Dance, and he hinted that Yusuke must've had something serious behind it, I thought it was just a joke... because Sket Dance is obviously gag anime. This is why this episode surprised me. Kazoyushi has something really serious behind himself, so it's not impossible for Bossun to show moving story too.
Considering Kazuyoshi - he really looked like Kinji from Hidan no Aria before he changed himself. And now I think there's a reason for which he likes so much dramatic anime.
I really feel different about watching Sket Dance now. Once an anime gets a background story, no matter of it's kind, it goes on a next level.

0_0 That was the first time I said h**y s**t in this anime.

I cannot believe that happened.

Also when he said " I loved you" and Sawa said "Me too" did she said it to Switch or to Usui?

Now I think about it, I've never seen switch actually cry or laugh or having any real emotions. He always has the "serious business/poker"face.

Now if Sket Dance can consistently be this good...or at least close to it. Switch should totally get a spin off.

Damn, this was one roller coaster ride of emotions. They did a really good job at presenting Kazuyoshi's backstory.

Feels a bit like the backstory arcs in Gintama: very deep and moving.

I cried my eyes out!!

I was seriously surprised at what happened there! I didn't think even for a moment Switch was An-chan! and when his little brother was stabbed I was asure he will survive (because he was called Switch).

That's what you call a plot twist!

Holy shit, this episode was amazing. Switch's story (2 episode arc) was quite touching imo. I did not expect this from Sket Dance at all. Wow, just wow amazing. Going to re-watch later this year. 5/5

The way that those three lived together and hoped to see fireworks as friends was ruined by Yukino. It's sad that a single piece of metal (the knife) can change so much in a person's life. It's just a tool but became a weapon of sorrow..which bought towards the two loving brothers. And in the end, it made Switch lose his ability to speak and his reliance on that computer. Wow, just wow. This episode was fucking amazing.

Rest in Peace, Switch. Rest in Peace.

Man, I think I shouldn't read around discussions too much. With all the hype behind the episode, I was expecting at every step for something extremely emotional to happen. Just think it would have been better to been caught more off-guard, but still, that was quite something. So sad...

It's also nice in a way, though, how he ended up. Carrying his brother's spirit and all. And now he's all witty and urbane. You can never change the past, but you can always move on even without forgetting those close to you. I just hope by the end of the show he can at least meet Sawa again...

I have a question, though... That scene where the new Switch wakes up the next morning and heads out. He stops before the door and it seems to foreshadow like a heart attack or such? I understand things like that can cause heart pain, but was that really all there was to that scene? Just seemed to come out of nowhere and never mentioned again.

It's always sad when a little brother passes away, and even more so here as the audience is led to think it's the older brother that will be disappear. Well done.

I think it's just here to show his grief, since they tell a bit later that he didn't cry at the funeral. Like it's having an impact even then.

I've (greatly) enjoyed Sket Dance to this point, but viewed it as a Poor Man's Gintama (which is highly praiseworthy).

This episode trumps anything from Gintama, and is one of the best I have ever seen.

I was too shocked and enthralled while watching to shed tears, but a few minutes later it hit me...

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?! That was deep. That was DEEEEEP. Way too deep for a show like this... unexpectedly so..

I was thinking that the younger kid was the Switch we all knew this entire time and that the older brother would eventually make it just in time to get stabbed by the crazy lady, but no.. it all went ape-s**t and the younger kid died and then kazuyoshi just went crazy and switched his persona (no pun intended).

Kinda makes it weird to think about Switch now... I had this imagine of him being a badass otaku computer hacker, but he's imitating his dead brother...

Anyway, kinda surprising that the kid died from a stab wound too.. an ambulance would prabably have arrived quite quickly... unless she managed to hit a vital point or something..

Also. If Sawa was gonna be moving away, why didn't she just stay indoors for a few days and then move away to escape the stalker instead of going all out and buying security stuff.. there was no point..

Ah well... they pulled a deep/emotional ep a la Gintama, and did decently. I really like Switch anyway (especially because of Sugita) so it's all good..

I hope that they soon will make more Sket Dance episodes. There's more to Switch's past. These story parts need adapting. >.<

Well it's official now, Switch is the best character ever in the history of forever.

I actually predicted that the younger brother would be the one to die. The younger brother had brown hair instead of purplish-black, and all of the character development was going towards the older brother.

However, it didn't look like he was stabbed in a vital area. After collapsing like that out in the middle of public, shouldn't he have lived? Didn't anyone call an ambulance? Or is it actually possible to die immediately after getting stabbed in the gut?
Some parts of this post may be exaggerated.

So sad. This may be one of the best singular anime episodes I've ever watched. This is a large problem I have with SKET Dance though, they have really great episodes, and then they have those 'meh' episodes which makes it hard to judge on a whole. Despite how sad this show is, It's not gotten me to cry yet.

This may be the strangest comedy I've seen in a while, it seems like the arc setup is:

Fluff / Comedy
Fluff / Comedy
Fluff / Comedy
Dramatic Backstory
Fluff / Comedy
Fluff / Comedy
Fluff / Comedy
Dramatic Backstory

Rinse and repeat.

Just...WHOA!! MOTHER OF PLOT TWIST!!
I totally didn't expect this. Who would have guessed that a funny otaku guy like him had such a terrible past. I thought computer speaking was a random thing he did, suitable for his otakuness. But no! He saw his little brother's death and blamed himself for everything he said and got so depressed that he stopped speaking.
Such a dark story for a comedy anime. Words can not express my emotions right now.
I litterally cried, like a baby.

THAT WAS SO GOOD ;____________;
for a gag anime, that sad as fuck backstory was written so well. I didn't find it horribly cliche or expected, and I really was surprised at some parts. When Switch merged the two voice samples together and typed
"Who am I?"
╥﹏╥ MY KOKORO

SWITCH FAVE SKET DAN CHARACTER. that little ending after the credits was so sweet it almost broke my heart. This entire mini-arc I was waiting for Bossun to show up but gahhhhhh why must they tease us ;v;

Well.. I didn't expect this episode to be so feelsy. I wonder if by the end of the manga Switch will work past his grieving and go back to his previous appearance. I wonder how/when his classmates started treated him normally again too, since they were gossipping about him at first. Hopefully the other back story episodes will be just as good, even though I found the sudden heavy atmosphere of this and the previous episode a bit jarring.
