Indeed. Instead, his character is the happy-go-lucky, nakama obsessed (who also has frequent nakama power up), idiotic protagonist, which is just as cliche (if not even more, I guess?) and generally not really much better than the cliche cool type.

It's just based on what you prefer more and if the very character itself entertains you.

Man agree with you. Sorry but Luffy is a.... walking cliché. What's the difference between him and Natsu, Naruto or whatever battle shonen protag ? I'm neutral concerning the SH crew. If I must pick a "favorite" character, It's Zoro but even him, he is flat.

I've finished the Skypea Arc, which was king of interesting (the world, story, characters except Enel who is a plain villain ...). One Piece is definitively not a masterpiece but I can admit that it beat the shit out of 80% of battle shonen manga. If I think about it, I fairly normal since it got +800 chapters and as a whole, it became a big world over the years. Take the first 100 chapters of OP, a lot of short shonen do a better storytelling with the same amount.... I've always been told that If I must watch the anime, then I should skip the 50-100 first episodes but I don't know if it's true.

I'm in chapter 335 now, I read it slowly since I'm not that interested but it's good to pass time I guess. I feel like that I've not learned a lot of things throughout the read and everything moves slowly :p

I... really, honestly loved the series since episode/chapter 1...
I didn't see anything wrong with it. I didn't see how it was hard to get into. It was fine.

Well to be true that is total bullshit since One Piece already gets pretty good at the Baratie arc and already reaches greatness during the Arlong Park arc.
