No surprises about Madoka topping the BD sales.
I was hoping IS would sell better since it's the Charlotte episodes(with less steam) but oh well, it's still selling strong.
S;G vol1 is very good.
Yay for Yondemasu yo Azazel-san. Really hope it gets another season, it's seriously underrated.

Good to see Steins;Gate selling right. Surprised about Aria. Not surprised about Azazel and Madoka. BTW what about Freezing BD's is forth volume sells much worser or it just sells not this week?

Waiting for AnoHana sells(it would come next week as I remember)

Doesn't go on sale until tomorrow. I doubt it does better than the first season though, which averaged 2500 sales

Second season was much better than first one so there is a chance that it would sell better. And Kami Nomi still had best sales among Manglobe shows probably.

BTW any info about Deadman Wonderland BD"s release dates?

I am surprised Blue Exorcist has more DVD sales than BD sales.

Expected sales for Nichijou. It was the worst animation Kyoani ever made. If they can't overcome this mannerism with directions and animation, fans will obviously go off.

I expect that sales for steins;gate will increase enormously as the series goes on. Pretty surprised to see Denpa Onna on the same level as Hidan no Aria. Denpa Onna has been praised a lot for godly visual.

More like it's surprising to see Aria on the same level as Denpa Onna. Most people thought it would only sale 4k at the most before the daily numbers came out last week.

Anyway, great, great week. AoEx did even better than I could have hoped for, and will definitely do over 20k copies for the first volume in its lifetime. I'm expecting Steins;Gate to have big gains in subsequent weeks as the story actually gets to the parts of the novel that people rave about.

Now, on to AnoHana next week. It's possibly a 40k+ contender.

Aren't people being hasty against Nichijou? The BD sales for it haven't even been released yet, that's just it's DVD sales. You are judging it with partial data.

I'm more saddened by the fact crap like IS and hastily and bad adaptations like Majutsu no Index get good sales. The more crap sells, the more crap they will keep producing.

Thats a sign of the fujoshis. Anime aimed at female viewers always tends to do better in the DVD sales

And no. It'll likely sell around 16-18k I'd imagine, based on the preorder points and looking at its ranking relative to Steins;Gate. 40k would put it on K-on level, and lets be honest; its no K-on in terms of popularity.

Not really. While I'm sure some fujoshi are buying AoEx, in its case the heavy DVD sales should have more to do with the teenage boy demographic than fujoshi. Teenage boys don't tend to own BD players. AoEx's core demographic is teenage boys, not fujoshi. Now, a Nichigo show that was aimed at fujoshi that had a BD release as well is Star Driver, and the BDs out sold the DVDs. So like jmal said, it's not that fujoshi don't own BD players, it's that most of the time there is never a BD option for them.

AnoHana and Steins;Gate's situations are different. Steins;Gate suddenly shut up into the 17-single digits range after ep 9, so a large number of buyers flooded in at once which caused the points on Stalker to be skewed. In AnoHana's case, it had a steady flow of sales and was consistently in the 10-17 range for most of its run. At the same time, it didn't sit at #1-2 ranking all the time like Madoka, so its not skewed by that type of pattern either. AnoHana's ranking tendencies reflect K-ON and Angel Beats more than Steins;Gate, and thus the pre-orders should be similar.

That's not quite true. Most often, fujoshi anime (I don't personally know what the gender spread is on AoEx's fanbase) doesn't even get a BD release. So while it's technically right to say fujoshi anime does better in DVD, it's, well, a pure technicality..

They call it "Yaoi no Exorcist" for a reason. Girls have gone crazy over it due to all the shipping of the two main characters.

I don't buy the teenage boy thing. Most teenage boys have PS3s. Just look at stuff like like Index, which is aimed at that demographic... the BDs kill the DVD versions by nearly 3 to 1, yet Ao no Exorcist sells quite a few more DVDs than BDs.

It's obviously incorrect to go"oh look it only sold 924" but we already know it can't have sold a lot. The BD sales have to be less than 4,007. Based on how it was ranking before release, probably 2500-3000 BDs are all we can expect. So, less than 4,000 total for vol 1 of a 13 vol release. Or it's guaranteed less than 5,000 at any rate.

It would be on the low end of average by normal standards, however the reason people get so worked up (either positively or negatively) is because it's Kyoto Animation. And people unrealistically expect every single Kyoto Animation show to sell 10k+. (Well, okay, almost all of them do, but that's beside the point.)

But no studio produces a mega every time, not even KyoAni, even though they do have pretty much the highest average sales of any studio in anime industry history.
That's true. IMO I think the whole 13 volumes thing (2 episodes per disc huh) along with expensive price are more at fault here. Nichijou is a decent comedy, probably more worth the time than say, IS or any of the JC Staff adaptations.

That is a joke coined and spread by /a/. 2ch users, the people who are actually buying this shit, do not refer to AoEx as Yaoi no Exorcist.

I don't buy the teenage boy thing. Most teenage boys have PS3s.

No, they don't. You're getting the Japanese market confused with the American market. In Japan, most teenage boys only have Nintendo DS' or PSPs.

Just look at stuff like like Index, which is aimed at that demographic... the BDs kill the DVD versions by nearly 3 to 1, yet Ao no Exorcist sells quite a few more DVDs than BDs.

Index is not aimed at teenage boys, or at least that is not the audience it attracts. It's just another otaku show with a more shounen spin. It's a late night anime that only otaku watch and buy. The fact that the BDs sale so much is a testament to the fact that it is otaku oriented. As for the novels, I can't speak on the demographic that buys them, but it's probably heavily otaku supported as well.

There is single biggest problem with it to just end like 'omg kyoani failed'. It's the marketing and advertisement they did with this series. In there official site and news and everywhere, was basically going; "WILL BE TEH BEST ANIMATION OF THIS SEASON". They had advertisement everywhere, even had OVA out before the release of actual animation. Not only that, Nichijou is 2-cour and budget is extremely high. The producers will lose some serious amount of money there.

I can't believe I'm making a post on MAL again where it's likely to fall on deaf ears, but no they aren't even close. Not even by a long shot. If I had to make a guess this distinction would probably go to Sunrise or Ghibli.

Don't spread nonsence. Ghilbi only making movies and Sunrise sucsess based on Gundam OVA's sales mostly. OVA's and movies always have much better sales than SAME LEVEL TV's. If the are talking about TV-series — KyoAni has best AVERAGE sales between all studios.

But no studio produces a mega every time, not even KyoAni, even though they do have pretty much the highest average sales of any studio in anime industry history.

I can't believe I'm making a post on MAL again where it's likely to fall on deaf ears, but no they aren't even close. Not even by a long shot. If I had to make a guess this distinction would probably go to Sunrise or Ghibli.

You need to think straight. Sunrise has produced so many series and a lot of them have been flops, Ghibli produce movies only and obviously we're talking TV series here, ffs you know it.

KyoAni have the best avg for tv series period, like it not you can't deny it.

Who said I was talking strictly about TV series? Did the guy I responded to say TV sales? No he said "highest average sales of any studio of ALL time". This is why it really helps to read not only the quote of the person you are about to bitch at (in this case me) folks, but to also pay attention to the person he is quoting in order to establish the context in which the post you are quoting is made

Now sure if you want to get a very specified criteria going like TV series in the past however many...I guess 5 years only, and that you can't count Gundam OVA's/Movies or anything Ghibli does or let's be honest, anything that can conflict with the argument you are about to make, you easily can find a way to claim that Kyoani is the greatest in that time period for overall TV series sales, but that's not at all what I was responding to or what I was considering.

Typical MAL.....sigh.....though honestly it's completely my fault for bothering to make a post on these forums and expecting a reasonable response that actually addresses the context of my statement instead of what people want to think I'm saying.

And just how butthurt are you over me Westlo. Everywhere I go I get the same comments laid down on me. You know what, I do like Sunrise, they are my favorite studio and no I'm not a particularly huge fan of Kyoani nor their over the top ultra-defensive fanboys. If that's a problem for you then you need to learn to deal with it bro. It's hilarious that this is apparently supposed to count as a detriment against my character and the validity of my comments or something and if that's honestly the way you think then I don't think we have much to say to each other.

Anyway Kyoani's TV series sales average is probably about to take a huge hit by way of Nichijou anyway. They better find a solution fast cause if their next TV series is yet another 4Koma all-female cast "slice of life" show there's no guarantee of success. The very idea that there's no longer any guarantee for success on the part of anything Kyoani produces should be a wake up call for not just them, but for everyone watching. I know it was for me, and yes I have been waiting for this day to lay down some comments. I guess that makes me the bad guy since people take this sort of stuff so personally on these forums.

Its because whenever someone debates best selling studios, its assumed they mean TV. Its unfair to compare movies to it, since movies are much better investments since you get an entire movie for about the same price as 2 anime episodes, plus you don't have the worry of having to collect the entire set as well. I never see anyone throw movies into the mix because of these reasons, and common sense should just tell you it was TV series being debated here.

Nah, KyoAni is fine. Just looking at the low quality art style, its pretty obvious they never expected Nichijou to be a bit hit, so they probably didn't have much budget on it. Even KyoAni doesn't go all out with every single show they do. All they have to do is make a Haruhi 3, K-on 3, or Little Busters/Rewrite, and they'll be rolling in the cash again. Nichijou is a little known manga compared to what they typically adapt.

That's not an issue of common sense, it's an issue of reading what the person says as opposed to assuming what they might actually mean by it, which goes on far to much on internet forums quite frankly. If they say"highest sales of any studio in anime industry history" as opposed to "highest average sales of any studio in anime industry history as far as TV series in the past decade goes", I'm going to respond in a way that includes everything. That's common sense. I'm not a mind reader so I can't magically guess if a person means TV series or in what time period, especially in a thread where the OP concerns overall anime BD/DVD sales and I can't even find the word TV being mentioned in anyone's post until the most recent batch of comments.

Though I will say that the one guy jmal coming at me with, "most animation studios are lucky to pass 10k more than once in their history. KyoAni has done it ten times in less than a decade for nearly every show they've done. Sorry, no other studio like that exists", only to have good old Westlo come up with the Sunrise TV series stats for the last decade which immediately proved the above quote about no other studio like that existing wrong was highly entertaining. Yes I will freely admit that Sunrise has produced far more types of shows in both number and demographic appeal that have sold less than their big gun franchises or failed to find a huge audience and thus their overall TV series sales average was dragged down under the sheer weight of their overall catalogue as a result, but I think that the list that Westlo posted should serve as an eye opener for people with tunnel vision who think that there is no match for Kyoani as far as TV series sales go. I'd pay attention to what SHAFT is up to as well if I were these folks.

Anyway I may be a little perturbed at your persistence in hatin' on me again Westlo, but you've made a very helpful post so I'd say we're cool again. Haters gonna hate anyway right?

This post is strange to me, because people who have watched the show that I've talked to have been going on non-stop about how the animation quality in Nichijou is far above it's own simplistic art quality and apparently above what most shows showcase as well. Not that I ever put too much stock in any of this, but your's is honestly the first I've heard of anybody willing to claim that show is low budget in any regard. I guess only time will be the only real way to tell what if any fallout there is from Nichijou bombing.

Not a fair comparison. He counted Gintama 3 times, when its only 1 series. It would be like counting each year of Naruto or One Piece as a separate anime. So its still 10 shows for KyoAni that had 10k+, and 8 for Sunrise.
