I'm going to a community college for a couple years to get my Associate in Art degree. Then I plan to transfer to Western Carolina.

I guess, since we ARE technically the closest metropolis to Japan in the USA(Hawaii doesnt count, not enough population)... and plenty of asians are in CA so there is a very large asian influence on the culture of the heavily populated areas of california. pretty much everyone I know here is into anime and the like.

Ill likely be beginning medical school in a year. Finishing a psychology degree this year. Wasn't sure if med school would have been right for me so I wanted to do this first. Plus this works out for me if I want to take medical school in Canada or the United States instead.

I was previously a pharmacy major. Only do pharmacy if you really like not having a life outside of studying and if you like really boring work where a lot of people call you with problems. The money is good there but I guess money wasn't that important to me since I'm going to be a teacher.

Haha. I'm a pharm major at Ohio Northern University. Anybody else from the midwest?

If you're looking for an excellent medical school program, you should look into the University of Arizona. They have one of the best med programs in the United States.

I'm looking into various medical schools right now. Might end up practicing in the United States because the pay is better there for my profession specialty by about 75,000 - 100,000 USD (after converted to GBP). Plus Ill more than likely have larger access to medical equipment. At the moment I've been looking at the top 40 medical schools as my equivalent GPA and classes needed to enter them are met. For me it isn't a matter of grades or money, but how many international spots they have open for me. I need to take the MCAT still, but that will be a breeze for me.

oh man, living in CA is expensive as hell, we pay the highest gas prices its average at $4.50+ over near me (thats with the recent drop in prices), 8.25% sales tax, and higher prices in general for everything since our min wage is $8 so that affects inflation and crap... houses that were worth $500K or less in 2000 are now prob $1M+. Our state is about $15Billion in debt... we got fires all over the place right now too... but in the end, even with all that crap going on, its still awesome to live here. it has 2 of the centers of the world (SF Bay Area and LA Area) with people from all over the world living here. gotta love that part about most of CA, lots of diversity, so you have a bunch of different viewpoints.

(with all that said, my bank account still feels very empty in the end...)

NORCAL BAY AREA FTW! XD

Ahaha, no need to apologize, believe me. Studying our geography is hardly interesting and likely even less useful. UBC is right in Vancouver though, yes, so you got it right anyways. Pretty good for only three times! I know I couldn't tell you that much about California universities.

And thanks for the welcome!

they are basically the same thing when it comes to writing, but speaking it is completely different. throw a chinese person into japan or throw a japanese person into china, they will both be able to read everything pretty well, though communicating verbally to the people will be much different.

I prefer the spoken of Japanese. The Chinese languages (no offense to those of the many regions and many dialects with Chinese ancestry) gets on my nerves.

lol... it depends for me, cantonese, is pretty annoying to hear for a long time, but manderin is fine. I cant understand cantonese either but I can understand manderin.
when people are talking cantonese around me, I just kinda sit there dumbfounded because I cant understand a word of it...

Same here, but I don't think it's annoying. :] That's just who they are. It's definitely rough on the ears though, I think Mandarin is a bit more elegant.
