Aside from the donation drive just before the shut down?

They always asked for donations.

One would assume that's justification in assuming they're low on funds.

If they were low on funds before then they suddenly wouldn't have been low on funds enough to close the site. Also if they were low on funds they would have no started a new site.

When they're consistantly low on funds, ask for a large donation drive, and then suddenly have enough to open a new site...
I don't see how you think this leads to anything other than it being bought.

Again, if the site was bought the site would still be open and the actual Encyclopedia Dramatica site would not be linking to the new site.

Due to it's popularity it'll most likely be remade, nothing of value was lost. Stereotypes will exist forever. Only now the catalog of them all being in one place is gone temporarily.

Honestly, I don't see how anyone is surprised. Girlvinyl started WP80 last year, which itself was an attempt to port ED to a more controlled, more sterile format. Once they deleted the nigger article, it was clear to everyone involved that she was ready to pull the plug. Right now, she has basically replaced it with what is reminiscent of the /b/ reposting content farms that whore the front page of Digg and get forwarded in emails with excessive numbers of "Re:" in the title line.

Of the senses closely curled
Like a serpent round his heart
Shakes herself and stands apart."

Crap. Where will I get my monthly update about Boxxy now? ;_;

Kind of surprising, but I guess I understand why some would find it offensive. If you went there without knowing what to expect it could be pretty disturbing. Whatever was left of my soul was killed by that site. :| I got a few laughs out of some of the articles.

Same thing happen here.
Last year I searched in Google to find about Pokemon and an anime. Then surprised by some porn shit. Pretty humiliating for fan of series instead.
I mean, how could you accept facts that aren't right about something you worship? ( I'm not worship Pokemon).
There is like 2 weeks delay in my recent reading list
I randomly bought discount/second hand manga with cute/mysterious cover.

Eh, lol

Uncyclopedia was better anyways.

Not really a "moralfag", or offended, ED just was never really that funny. It's like /b/, basically, pretty simple-minded people. Or possibly I just never got the punch line from their jokes.

Just some parody encyclopedia with a poor sense of humor. Nowhere worth visiting unless you are a 12 year old and you think that offensive stuff is funny.

Having said that, I am a huge advocate of freedom on the net, so 12 year olds who think that offensive stuff is funny should have a place to go to where they can get their laughs, assuming it was shut down by moralfags and not because of the creator's personal reasons, who has every right to shut down their site if they want to, despite what users might think.

Oh screw you, there was funny stuff on ED even if there was some stupid crap! You just had to look up the right articles. The Fire Emblem article they made was hysterical as was their Megaman and Street Fighter articles.

That's because their traffic dropped shitloads. I don't expect it staying up long at all. I also doubt if that happens they'll bring back ED.

ED shut down becuase the megalomaniac domain owner (Sherrod DeGrippo aka "GirlVinyl") sold the domain. Advertisers kept pulling ads from the site because of the racist content so they were losing money majorly hence why they asked for donations. Anyway, it's too long to explain so I'll copypasta a better explanation:

Life, Death ad Rebirth (The Last Thursday of ED)

What most everyone is unaware of is that Encyclopedia Dramatica, in its original form, cost something akin to an arm and a leg to run. Most people probably forgot the constant begging for donations and complete site shutdowns that used to plague the site, but indeed it was bleeding dollars from every available orifice.

In an attempt to profit off the interest of NORPs without scaring them off with pictures of severed dicks and esoteric Internet nerd humor, WP80 was born. Whatport80 served as the work-safe alternative wiki to ED, meant to mirror the content of ED with sparkly graphics and sparing use of zingers all while trying to deny some of that sweet sweet traffic money to KYM. But WP80 sucked, was used only by three people, and nobody gave a shit. KYM still made a ton of cash.

Failing to stop the monetary hemorrhaging, ED then introduced ClickBangPop. CBP was an ad network to exclusively dealed in advertising on ED itself and offered more leniency in the types of advertising that would be allowed.

But then... That flopped. Everyone installed AdBlockPlus because they were sick of lag, pop-ups, pop-unders, re-directs, and seeing Princess Peach's tits or women with flashlights in their anuses on the sidebar.

Finally, in a last ditch effort to save ED, an idea was born: save the idea of a snarky Internet clubhouse and throw out the excessive content. Understandably, trashing the work done by countless, countless anons sparked a rage not matched even by over 9,000 to the power of 9,000 bees... And now... Here we are backing up the old wiki, because a gem like this just can't disappear.

And nothing can ever die on the Internet. Ever.

and

The Supposed Reason for this Faggotory

Former ED sysop here. I'm going to explain everything. Just hear me out.

Sometime in early March, our higher-up sysops decided that(we?)needed to make sacrifices. Donations were at an all time low, and advertisers were succumbing to pressure to pull advertisements from ED due to 'offensive' content. We did everything we could; pop-up ads, click fraud, anything we could to keep our site alive.

Eventually, we had to do the unthinkable and got rid of the 'racist' articles, including the Jew and Aboriginal article. But it wasn't enough. None of the advertisers would come back.

But what happened today, was something that myself and various other lulz-loyal sysops begged and pleaded with Sherrod Ellen Degrippo, the owner of the Encyclopedia Dramatica domain, not to do. Some of us even offered to take up another IRL job, and pay for the domain ourselves, in any minuscule amount we could afford.

She wouldn't listen. She saw dollar signs in her eyes, because the group she sold it to in particular had an article on ED about them (needless to say, it was unflattering). They offered her a lot.

And you know what? She did it. she sold it, despite protests from NUMEROUS Sysops. Sherrod Ellen Degrippo sold the ED domain.

We haven't heard from Weev since this disgusting injustice occurred. But blame the sysops.

Also mainly blame Sherrod Ellen Degrippo.

And Anon... you may destroy her with our blessing.

The only thing "revolutionary" about it is the way its crept into everyday life like no other social networking site before it had been able to do. Myspace? Bebo?Hi5? Exactly.

I don't know, but it's hard to take anything they say seriously. At least on the outside, yes, I think they did put up a facade that bashed 'weeaboos', anime fans, and the like. But knowing them I'm sure it's possible there were probably anime fans among them anyways.

I'd have associated them with 4chan and 4chan has a lot of anime-based sections, so... meh.

---
On a side note for the thread, try looking at some of ED's pages of people who have tried to take down ED, and try and tell me if those pages don't look like a bunch of 12 year olds getting all worried, screaming: "How dare they do this to us? We'll ruin them, you hear me, ruin them!!!" lol. For a bunch of users who make it hard to tell if they take anything online seriously or not, I get the feeling that in real life they tend to overreact a lot.

LOL, very true.....

I just think their "LET'S TROLL EVERYONE" attitude was very annoying at times.

Yes, they had some LOLTASTIC articles, but the majority seemed like it was made by a bunch of people who hate everyone and have too much time on their hands.
