According to Otona Anime magazine, director Yamamoto Yutaka has decided to leave the anime industry for the time being. He has been at a loss what to do because the audience didn't accept Fractale and he couldn't understand other TV anime. He wondered whether he had gone insane or the world had gone crazy.

This dude is a real ENIGMA...

He made it big with Haruhi....

But then he failed with Lucky Star....he got canned after just 4 episodes.

and now Fractale made him INSANE

Oh well, he still looks like a BOSS!!!

Yamakan seems butthurt over his first flop. Oh well, here's to hoping that this "retirement" will help him get his act together. I like this guy.

As I said when I finished Fractale, one cannot possibly translate what could have made for a pretty good Hayao Miyazaki-esque movie into a TV anime series. It just doesn't work~ =w="

I think the problem with fractale was that like haruhi it kinda tried to be a bunch of different things at once, but it just didn't work out as well. I think it had to do with less compelling characters, at least for me.

Ah well, I say give the guy his space, let him figure out what he wants to do.

Fractale is pretty decent, but Yamamoto is a total retard.
His retirement for the benefit of anime industry is the best news i've had this week.

Lol, so he was actually serious. HAHAHAHAHA. Well, retard as he is, he had a few good hits. I loved Kannagi for example. But seriously, retiring over his first flop? Overreacting much? Just shrug it off and learn from it. Don't pout that people "don't get you", that's just sad.

Honestly Fractale was just too confusing, there was not enough set up to the point where 2 episodes were left and ruined just about everything I knew. I took me forever to wrap my head around Nessa (wtf read hair) I was stuck on the fact that I was given images of fractale and it had Clain with this Purple-haired girl I literally thought that a purple haired girl was going to appear for 2 episodes.

Kannagi wasn't actually that bad for a comedy. But it seems he can't get a good story to flow properly in Fractale.

Let's see... hated Air, I've heard both good and bad about Black Rock Shooter, gave up on Fate/stay night, haven't seen Fractale and apparently I don't want to, stuff I've never heard of... I need to get to Kannagi, first four episodes of Lucky Star... lol, Haruhi is the only good one so far, and then something I've never heard of.

Yeah, he should've just left your success with Haruhi.

Also, he went crazy. The world's already crazy.

People don't love random gynecologist tables, molestation not important to the plot, and finding out that God is just a 16 year old girl with the mentality of a ten year old? I JUST DON'T GET IT!!!!

lol.

His reaction seems like that of a kid. Maybe he should've just said...'Hmm, I'm a little tired so I'll retire and take a rest - go sightseeing' etc. But bitching about people not liking his anime and walking off in a huff just seems childish.

A disappointment Yamakan is leaving the industry for god knows how long but it was predictable from day one. Lack of a fandom in Pixiv for one, at least it wasn't Freezing.

But this does paint a depressing view on what "works" in Japan. Here's the following that doesn't "work": Animes with strong sexual themes (Not random fanservice), Foreigner Adaptations like Iron Man and Gaijin Manga (Freezing). They simply don't have good fandoms

The flaws Fractale had are pretty obvious. Not realizing that seems more like he's sulking. But then fighting against that mainstream bullshit in Japan is probably harder then you think.
Catering to japanese otakus won't let the industry progress. They should target shows like Fractale at the international market where it receives the appreciation it deserves, as long as they don't pull stupid endings.

He didn't invent Haruhi or had anything to do with it's creation.

he just directed the first season, which compared to FUCKING ENDLESS EIGHT.....it was the greatest thing in this universe.

This dude just went insane as time progressed....plain and simple.

Fractale was good for me in the beginning but by the end of it I just didn't feel connected to the story or even understand what was going on, its the most disappointing anime for me as far has the winter season goes. I did like Kannagi though and Lucky Star got better after he left.

Fractale started out heavenly, with all these amazing setups. Then they DTICHED it all for this child like love story. FFS, why you do that!? Will probs read the manga, hear it's much better (per usual, lol).

Haruhi...meh. Interesting ideas but for the most part, it was badly presented. It was like Natsume Yuujonchou without the awesome... Apparently the movie is amazing so I may watch it.

Hate everything about Lucky Star oh god.

He was talking about Fractale FYI.

An unfortunate person, isn't he. I have to agree that he tries to many things at once though. For example, in Haruhi, the purposefully chronologically misarranged episodes. Should just keep to the original materials even if the arcs in the light novel is not chronological. At least the light novel finishes the arcs before it moved on to the next mid-way.
